ItemImageBorn in 1978, Kobe Bryant made the jump directly from high school to the NBA when he was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets as the 13th overall pick of the 1996 NBA Draft. The 6-7 guard was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers and won the NBA slam dunk contest in his rookie year. The son of former NBA player Joe "Jellybean" Bryant, Bryant became the youngest All-Star in NBA history in 1998 when he was selected as a Western Conference starter at the age of 19.

I can't believe Kobe is this high on the list, his all around game is weak at best. The thing that I hate the most is when they say he is the best player on the planet, bitch please! If scoring alone makes you the best player then I guess he could be, even though LeBron won the scoring title. It won't matter in a year or two anyway because LeBron James will be the Best Player on the planet by then.

He plays the ugliest basketball in the league and I can't stand to watch him dirbble and dribble and dribble and then turn around and fling something up there and it goes in. That is so ugly, but it does go in. It goes in a lot every game. He is the most dominant player in the league.

He's just not a team player. He's a ballhog. And even worse, when he gets criticized about taking too many shots, then he just sulks and does nothing and just lets his team lose.

"Gimme 40 shots a game so I can prove I'm the greatest!"

When the Suns eliminate them it will continue the trend of not getting past the first round since a certain center left town...

UPDATE: Bye-bye. Four playoff wins since that one guy left town, by the way...

I just read that Kobe Bryant scored 50+ points in the last three games. That is impressive, but, in those three games, the Lakers won all three games by a combine total of 12, the last game by 2 against the worst team in the leauge, the Memphis Gizzilies.

Kobe is definitely the best player in the league. There is nobody that can beat him in one-on-one. And who said he's selfish? He lead his team in most assists per game!

Kobe is WAY underrated on this list. How can you NOT consider him one of the best players in the game? He's probably THE best. I think it comes down to Kobe, James, and Duncan. Yeah, Kobe's a ball hog. SO WHAT?? It seems to be the best think for the Lakers. Imagine them WITHOUT Kobe taking all the shots. And don't act like he's the first ball hog to ever step foot on the NBA court. All the great ones do it. It's called being the BEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER ON YOUR TEAM. I have the feeling a lot of people are giving Kobe lousy votes because they don't like ghis personality, and that whole legal issue he was involved in. It's a shame that people underrate talented players based on things that have nothing to do with their skill.

Kobe is the best player in the league and he didnt rape anyone. Ask yourself this, the "victim" and more than 5 types of semen in her body, over 5, to be polite that gal is "loose" and she was at a party braggin about the size of Kobe's wang. A raped victim wouldnt be braggin bout' nothing, she would be calling the police. That broad just wanted some money and it aint right and she's scarred Kobes image forever. Thats why Kobe is rated so low on this list. He's clearly the best player in the league imo and thats how i feel about that.

Ball Hog, Ball Hog, Ballhog, to the fullest extent. He never shares the ball. They should change the name the Los Angelos Kobe's. But he is very good at ball hogging and can still win.

There's no I in team or Kobe but he couldn't care less - this is what he's wanted all along, to be a one-man scoring machine. Pouring in 81 points last Sunday, and with a 35ppg average at this point that seems to be going nowhere but up. And he got Coach Phil Jackson to come back and attempt to ride the Kobe train straight back to another few championships. Call me anything but a Kobe Bryant fan, but I can't argue that the guy is just nasty.

Not a team player, not a nice person, but he is one of the best shooters in the history of the league. It's going to be hard for him to win again in this league if he doesn't learn to work and play well with others. 1/22/2006 ***Special news flash: While I was indeed sincere in what I wrote yesterday on Kobe Bryant. I just witnessed him in an interview following tonight's performance in which he was 28 for 46 shooting, including 7 for 13 from three point distance, 18 for 20 from the free throw line (Breaking a streak of some 60+ without a miss) and an increadible 81 points!!! After turning in a total that is the second highest game behind Wilt Chamberlain's 100 pointer over forty years ago, Kobe gave one of the finest, most humble, and reverent post game interviews I've had the pleasure to witness in my many years as a sports fan. In it he gave praise to his teammates, (to whom he refered to as his "blockers") Coach Phil Jackson, and remained humble when asked to compare himself with past greats including Michael Jordan , Magic Johnson, and others. I was very proud of Kobe and believe that this may be the turning point that allows him to put all of his enormous potential and ability into the package that truly does guarentee that he be considered among the greats of all time. In Short, I am convinced; any rating less than 5 out of 5 would be truly dishonest of me. There can be no further denying the fact; Kobe is truly a great, great player!

I never liked Kobe, even before the rape case. He is so fake, he pretends that he is a nice team player, we all know that Kobe thinks its all about him. 62 points, well isn't that special? Kobe how many assist did you have in that game against the Mavericks? I'll tell you how many zero! And Shaq give it up buddy, you've won! Jeez, you're a grown man, this feud has to stop! Making crappy movies and music isn't going to help the situation! Personally, I don't even think that MJ is the greatest player of all time, Bill Russell is. When I saw MJ push Brian Russell off him in the last seconds of the NBA finals I felt pissed! He totally cheated, MJ should have 5 rings not 6.

All you haters get it straight, Kobe is the best all-around player in basketball today. It has nothing to do with his rape case, but his skill. Kobe is the best 2-guard in the game. For all of you that say Kobe can't lead his team to the playoffs, remember he was injured for 5 weeks last year and he and Lamar Odom only played together in about 40 or so games. They would've squeaked by had he had a healthy season. Shaq and Kobe needed each other to win their championships, so I don't know what the hell people are talking about when they say Kobe rode Shaq's coat tails to 3 titles. If memory serves me correctly, Shaq went to the Finals with Penny and he got his ass served by Olaujuwon. And I'm not even gonna count last year where the Heat lost to the Pistons. Kobe's good. Admit it. There's times where he will hog the ball and try to take the game into his own hands, but you can't deny his talent.

Lucky bastard got Phil Jackson back, don't know what he was thinking. Phil, that is. Kobe thinks he's Jordan. I think he acts like Jordan. He sure doesn't play like Jordan, nor should he. In the NBA, it's always safe to bet on talented big men, and forcing Shaq to go has to rank in the top 10 of dumbest moves in sports history. Kobe and Phil better hope San Antonio is cracked-out enough to trade Tim Duncan and Tony Parker for Lamar Odom, Kwame Brown and Smush Parker, because that's the only chance they've got! I so can stand this guy, it's a shame he got his big-money contract before we found out he was another Penny Hardaway(read: SG who looks good playing with Shaq...Dwayne Wade..dum.duh.dum.dah.dum...;\ )

Kobe is easy to hate. Personally, I can't stand the guy. But no one can hate on his skills. Best all around player in the game (sorry LeBron...you gotta wait a few more years). Explosive offensively, plays great defense. Though I can't give him 5 stars because great players are able to make good players better, and this year, Kobe has shown that he can't do that. Caron Butler & Lamar Odom aren't exactly mincemeat. They're good players. But despite the haters, Kobe has to be a top 5 player.

I'm not very vague in my rating of Ron Artest: I don't like Ron Artest. But if it's possible, I like Kobe Bryant even less. Unlike Artest, Bryant mugs for the camera like a golden child that can do no wrong. He talks snidely to the media like he invented the game of basketball. He talks about his teammates like he's coaching a middle-school team (recent quote: [my teammates] are giving me 110%). Worst of all, Kobe is someone his teammates can't talk freely around in the locker room because they know they'll read about it in the paper the next day (Shaq learned the hard way). I don't doubt for nano-second that someone with Kobe's sense of self-importance wouldn't take no for an answer from a hotel clerk in Colorado. I give 5 stars for his talent, but I'm not happy about it.

to say kobe isn't the best player in the league is to say the world is flat. T-mac is close but no cigar he does not have the passion kobe has, tracy does not have the inate love of the game imbeded in him like kobe does, which is attributed by his father playing in the nba. T-mac says he plays to win, but set out the rest of the season with a bougus injury, its not like tmac was going anywhere in april. Again Tmac says he wants to win games kobe wants to be the greatest their goals are different.

MY my what progress we have made in the area of civil rights. Now, instead of white rednecks walking away from murder charges for hanging blacks every time they felt like it, you got prominent black guys like OJ nd Kobe murdering and raping with impunity and simply walking away from the charges, all because they have money. Meanwhile, only about one in 8 people on Death Row could be considered Caucasian in country where still over 75% of all citizens are white as wonder bread... See how far we have come... down?

Let me remind people that he is 25 years old. At age 25 jordan was in his fourth year in the NBA when he was getting schooled by Detroit. At age 21 Kobe won his first of three rings. I believe it was his shot over Jason Kidd in 2nd round of the playoffs in 2000 that won the game with only 2 seconds to go. Later in the same year, he made probably one of the most exciting plays in Lakers playoff history with the ally-oop to Shaq against Portland on that fourth quarter comeback. The following year, he led the Lakers in point as Lakers won the second of three rings with an amazing 15-1 record in the playoffs. Then, in 2002 sufferring through injuries he came back and with Shaq on the side led the Lakers to another championship. In 2003 when Shaq was hurt, Kobe Bryant put up the most amazing numbers in February in which he scored 40+ point in 9 consecutive games. Even though they failed to win the series againt Spurs which ultimately came down to Robert Horry's three, Kobe Bryant established himself as one of the best to ever play the game. The rape charge as we saw did not effect Kobe's game what so ever, it actually forced Kobe to play harder than ever. In 2004 as Lakers lost to Detroit in the Final, and the dismateling of the Lakers dynasty, it could have not been better for Kobe. As a fan of Lakers basketball, I am more than excited for the next season. The showtime is back, and Lakers will prove all the media and the critics wrong. I believe that they are probably the second or the third best team in the west behind maybe minn. and san antonio. Kobe Bryant has nothing to worry about, I gurrantee that Kobe Bryant will end up as the greatest to play the game of basketball. He has purhaps passed Michael Jordan after what he did to Portland in the last game of the 2004 season and even proved himself to be as clutch or even better than Jordan during the last second of the game. Example, 2004 finals againts Detroit game 4 when he made the 25 footer to win it. Right now, if I had to chooose anyone to shoot the last shot, I would choose Kobe over any player that has ever played the game that includes Jordan, Bird, even Magic. By the way if anyone is going to argue that Jordan is better than Kobe because of his numbers, that's bull crap because if we are going to judge players by the numbers that they put up, than I must say Wilt Chamberlain is the greatest or even Oscar Robinson, the last man to have a quadruple double.

Kobe is a great athlete, but I still think he is overrated. I am tired of comparing him to Michael Jordan... there will never be another MJ. Kobe is good, he did not rape that girl, but I hate his attitude. He is the reason Shaq was traded, and the reason of Phil Jackson not being there....but thats cool with me , I'm a Kings fan.

A great basketball player who is standing trial for a rape he did not commit. The 19-year old girl he allegedly raped, in my oponion, filed a false rape charge against him. She should be prosecuted and sued for false arrest and put in jail and Kobe should be acquitted because I think he is a nice man who would never hurt anyone. It is just one example of an evil white girl trying to scam money out of an innocent black man my falsely accusing him of rape. Proves white girls are evil!

And second look how good he did when shaq was out ya the didn't win that much but look and t-macs magic the have the worst record i the nba. And I can see why people dont like him as much because that girl said she got raped but she just want to sew and be rich. Just two words not guilty. Keep hitting those game winners kobe!!!

THIS IS TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT KOBE IS CLOSE TO, AT, OR ABOVE MICHEAL JORDANS LEVEL. first off kobe bryant is trying to emulate micheal jordan in every way and its pathetic. second kobe is an 8 year nba veteran and what does kobe have to show for it 3 rings which he owes to shaq, a slam dunk championship and 2 all defensive first team selections and possibly a few all nba selections not bad for todays NBA. But let me harp on this guy real quick with jordan stats after his first 9 years. but lets be honest here. he missed 1986 with a foot injury so its really 8 years. in his first 8 years jordan got rookie of the year 7 scoring titles( NBA RECORD), defensive player of the year, 7 all Nba first team selections, 6 all nba first defensive team selections. the highest PPG average of all time 32.3 as compared to kobes 21.8 after 8 seasons. 3 NBA MVP's, 3 championships which he Led his team to (KEYWORD=Led, kobe is not the leader of the laker. EX: Magic, Bird, Hakeem= Leaders). jordan won 3 finals MVPs. highest all star game soring average. he scored 63 points against arguably one of the best teams of all time in the 86 boston celtics whose record was 68-14!! NBA Finals record 41.0 points per game. shall I continue, I think I will. after coming back from retirment he won 3 more scoring titles 2 more MVP's and 3 more finals MVP. Kobe has none of that and hes not even close. Hes the equivalent of a james worthy/joe dumars/scottie pippen hes a hall of fame role player which we will see when sghaq retires in a couple of years because he does not have the mental capacity to lead a team to greatness. also when kobe was leading the team last year for the first 17 games while shaq was injured he did average 31.0 ppg 8 reb and 8 ast but what was the teams record 5-12 thank you very much and if you dont believe me look it up for yourself!! Kobe is a good player not to be mistaken for haterism but jordan would piss on him 7 days a week. lets keep it real here .Jordan was Jordan because he was the best player in the league hands down from the minute he stepped onto the court in 84 to the day he retired in 98. and not only was he the best in his sport he was the best athlete in the world. kobe is not even the best on his team HINT Shaquille O'neal. kobe is the 5th best player in the league behind Duncan, garnett, Kidd and shaq and you can even argue for tracy mcgrady since he has proven that he can lead his team to the playoffs by himself. jordan was undisputedly the best player in the league hands down. but the nitty gritty of it all is that we all know that jordan is the most clutch player of all time because in the clutch when did he fail. he might have missed some regualr season buzzer beaters but in teh playoffs dating back to his rookie season he was as good as it got and even hall of famers will tell you that. his supporting cast was never the best but when they get cold feet he would consistently put them on his back and take them all the way. kobe did that for the first time in game 2 of the 2004 finals much props to him but get real. how many times have we seen kobe blow it in the clutch, ALOT. they are just two totally different players and its sad that kobe does not have his own image because if he did i would give him a higher rating. hes not original in anyway shape or form. and originality goes for alot in my book. dude can play his butt off hands down but dont insult MJ like that because MJ made the NBA what it is today and lets not forget that he is the first backcourt player to ever be able to just dominate a game because in the past it was the wilts and russels and waltons and dr j's and kareems and moses malone= all front court players ther may have been hall of fame guards in the past but none dominated the way he did. name one guard before him who could dominate a game all season from october to june. my point exactly if anyone can argue with me on this than hit me at BTNUPE1@yahoo.com. because I am tired of people talking crazy. like I said dude is good but he will never be on jordans level PERIOD.

Kobe is the best player in the NBA today. He's a great clutch player (The last regular season game against Portland is one example), he's the best perimeter player in the game, he's a great defensive player, he can dunk on centers (Yao for example), he's been on countless all-nba teams....etc. etc. etc. And the lakers are going all the way AGAIN...the spurs are toast. And yes, Jordan was a cheater also, but no one talks about it.
