"Hey, jab that hypo in my butt so I can inflate my career statistics." "Behind in the count? Just throw at the batter's head." "How long would I have lasted in the National League, where I'd have to bat?" "Oh Andy, pull harder."

Roger's success on the field speaks for itself. I had a hunch that something was up with him when the Yankees played the Mets in the World Series, however. No one who's played baseball as long as Clemens would mistake a broken bat for a baseball--as Clemens claimed when he tried to impale Mike Piazza with a wooden shard--and even if he did make such an error, wouldn't he have thrown that broken bat to first base to record the out? "Roid Rage", I say...

This arrogant douchebag is getting everything he deserves right now.
lion in winter 04/01/2008
A liar, a cheat--- scum. His career should be deleted after 1998- and an evaluation of his pitching can be based on the pre roid period. As bad as Barry Bonds.
trebon1038 03/31/2008
Great player and team mate, now the question is....did he or did he not do steroids...
badgerfan 12/05/2007
Obviously, and he can still do it.
irishgit 08/20/2007
Not only the greatest pitcher of his generation, but arguably the greatest right-hander of all time.
Chalky 08/20/2007
I swear he follows Andy Pettite too the bathroom too. I would put him as the greatest pitcher of the modern era but that goes to Greg Maddux. I think his best latter years were w/Toronto and the Astros. He really has no loyalty to any of the clubs he has played for asides from the Yankees. Truly great in terms of pitching but his attitude, shortened seasons w/all these perks really takes him from 5 stars to 4.
ConvenienceGuy 06/26/2007
10 years ago, I never would have expected to get Roger Clemens without a fight for my rotisserie league. This old fogey is a pretty easy pick now.
doobiesNhof 04/24/2007
Was a great pitcher but...RETIRE ALREADY!!!
Loerke 04/22/2007
Clemens is a throwback to the old days of pure hardball. His endurance is astounding in this day and age. The less appealing aspects of his style, such as his notorious headhunting, are probably part of that image as an oldtimer. However, Clemens doesn't deserve to be counted among the very best pitchers of all time. His record pales before that of the pitcher who most closely resembles him: Nolan Ryan. For example, Clemens's amazing 118 complete games is still nothing to Ryan's 222. Ryan suffered through a lot of bad teams, and franchise loyalty prevented him from having more than two 20-win seasons. Ryan was a decent guy, whereas Clemens is a notorious prick. No other athlete today would take the first half of the season on vacation while soliciting the best bid from various teams. Imagine the reaction if Barry Bonds, who is the same age, did that! If people want to say that Bonds is bad for baseball, they need to look at Clemens first.
nottanerd 02/15/2007
Yeah he has great stats..but he is a complete sellout and an all around asshole. He shows no loyalty whatsoever to any team he plays for..or their fan bases. Remember when he signed with the Blue Jays and said it wasnt about the money..it has about winning? Bullshit. If that was the case,he wouldve signed with the Yankees back then. You guys can have him in big games too..all Ive ever seen him do is choke and serve up batting practice. Sure he can strike out 17 guys if his team is in 4th place and its Sept 22nd..but ask him to give you a gutsy performance and you might as well ask David Wells to lose some weight..aint gonna happen, dude.

Has as much of a claim as anyone as The Greatest Pitcher Ever. Anyone who argue's that either doesn't like him or hasn't been paying attention.
jtc022 04/24/2005
Hands down probably the best ACTIVE pitcher and can still throw 97 mph
37102002 04/13/2005
still bringing it. steroids maybe?
James76255 04/05/2005
To do what he has done as a pitcher at his age, in an era where hitters have all the advantages...it's truly amazing.
Jar-Jar Binks 03/10/2005
I thought he'd retire in 2003. But at 43 he's still throwing heat and showing no effects of declining.. Becoming the highest paid pitcher at $18.5 million this season, I betcha he'll be a candidate for the Cy Young award. He's that great.
Beelzebub 03/09/2005
Clemens went gracefully from being a dominating fastball pitcher to a dominating control pitcher. You can't take anything away from the guy's performance, but you can take one star away for the fact that he's a loudmouth, fat head Texan.
drbowler 02/26/2005
This guy went 18-4 last year and came back for another.
bballgrandslam mer32 12/21/2004
Roger Clemens is a great pitcher. He rattles the hitter's bones when they step up to the plate. Everyone is afraid to hit a ball thrown by Clemens.
tim_abell 11/16/2004
Roger Clemens good but there also are a lot of other good players.

glowingmutan 08/18/2004
one of the best of all time roger clemens. now the question is who do you take clemens or jhonson
sperryc 06/15/2004
This guy is a horse. Yeah, he throws gas but you don't put up zeroes the way Clemens does on gas alone. I saw a great interview with Craig Biggio, who was talking about how Clemens sets batters up. With his pinpoint control, he's able to manipulate batters' stances and even their positions in the batter's box. It broke my heart to see him lose to the Cubs last night. But I guess a mid-June 9-1 record could be worse...
yisman 05/07/2004
Still has the good stuff. Generates power from legs. Has enabled him to last a long time. 6-0. Incredible.
valgalmypal 02/20/2004
I am glad that he is going to play for my favorite team the Astros.
Todd Parker 12/18/2003
A psychotic headhunter with serious rage issues. Four stars!

Roger is one of the greatest Yankee pitchers. Im so upset he is retiring, but whatever is best for him is what counts. He's led the Yanks through so much, and he will definatly never be forgotten.
StanUzbeck 09/01/2003
Too bad that there is only a five-star scale. I would gladly give this guy a four point nine score, if only because the only pitchers in my short lifetime to have earned a five-star rating have been Randy Johnson and Greg Maddux. Roger Clemens is almost in their league, but not quite. Oh well, I will still tell my grandkids about this guy, so who cares if he is a tenth of a star below the creme de la creme? Good guy, even though he used to play for the Blue Jays, who will rot in hell for eternity. (I am Canadian who hates Toronto, so sue me).
Hardwire 08/04/2003
He throws amazingly hard for 40 years old, but he's not the same. Every year his ERA has gone up since he started with the Yankees, and even though he went 20-3 in 2001, his ERA was 3.51. It's easy to win games when you have run support, but Freddy Garcia should have won that year. He can't throw strikes consistantly anymore, and is streaky in his W-L.

Rocket- Man Is A Proven Winner!

When it comes to strikeouts, only two are ahead. Clemens is a class act. I'm glad he's a Yankee

It absolutely baffles me that a player that has been playing for such a long time can still be so, so effective, especially a pitcher. Last year, he past person after person on the all-time strikeout list and was the Yankees' most consistent pitcher. Clemens has obviously always been a great strike out pitcher and has won 5 Cy Young Awards. His being named to the All- Century team shows that he definitely is one of the greatest pitchers to ever live. I would start him in any game 1 of a playoff series. "The Rocket" has conditioned himself very well and I still see a few more years on his career. He is practically the definition of dominance on the mound. His consecutive pitching win streak last year was the longest in history. I look forward to see his mastery again for the Yanks in the 2002 season.
apdj462 08/22/2001
Roger is an excellent pitcher and young pitchers should look up to him.
yankeegirl 07/24/2001
Let's see he has won 4 cy young awards and looking for his fifth one this year. He's moved up to the fourth place on the all time strikeout list and is now leading the majors with 14 wins this year. He is definitely one of the best pitchers in baseball history.
unknown punk 07/12/2001
Roger is... Awesome. He definately lives up to his nickname 'The Rocket'. He pitches so great.
yitta2626 02/13/2001
He lives up to his nickname, The Rocket.
Munson 05/25/2000
He has become a very average and inconsistent pitcher with the Yankees. One start, he looks like the Rocket of old and the next, he becomes too careful and has trouble throwing strikes.
