Once a powerhouse, is now in a swoon. They now have Calipari from Memphis, but Cal better be up to task, or he's run outta town, just like Pitino.

The changing of the guard should help UK. I feel that the fans and players had become stale with Tubby at the helm. They have some good young talent coming in this year and Gillespie should make a difference.
jy826 06/29/2007
a great program...although ethics often takes a backseat to winning with the Wildcats
Donovan 01/18/2007
A great team with a history of being just that. The state of Kentucky loves their Wildcats and they should because the team has proven their value over the years. Consistently Great!
kywildcat502 05/04/2006
I love all the dUKe and Carolina fans that come in here at joke about UK. Ill try to make this short and sweet. North Carolina = 4 Championships dUKe = 3 Championships ---------------------- KENTUCKY = 7 CHAMPIONSHIPS That means dUKe + Carolina = KENTUCKY Kentucky will ALWAYS be big brother..so just get over it you dUKe/Carolina fans!
#1wildcatfan 02/07/2006
surely the best basketball college in the nation, even though they arent playing to their full potential, i still have faith in their ability to succeed.(they're just too young, we'll get em' next year)
butyubchubstub 01/13/2006
Huge fan of the cats, but, they're just too young this year. In all of the essence, they really need to work on their shooting.
JayHeel 01/02/2006
Here's a stat for the ignorant UK fans on this site.UNC is the only team in CBB history to win NCAA titles in 3 consecutive decades.Even if UK wins a title from 2006to2009 they still don't have a NCAA title for the 1980's.UNC has 82,93,&2005.Consistency makes UNC the greatest.Get over it!
bcordasc 12/15/2005
Are you kidding me? The Cats suck this year. Go IU! Would you like some Vik to ease the pain of the raping you suffered in Indy?
bluetarbaby 07/31/2005
Even as a Tarheel fan, I have to admit, I've always kinda liked UK..............when they aren't playing us of course. The two programs are similar in so many ways. When I see UK kids, they kinda look as if they could be Carolina kids and vice versa. Know what I mean? They just seem like good country or inner city kids. No trust fund babies. Just natural ballers. But man, they dodged a bullet with that Randolph Morris thing. What happened with Azubuike? Isnt he with the Blazers or somebody? But yeah, I feel like UK is Carolina's cousin in some weird way. Like together we represent the real traditions, the old school. I feel like Tubby Smith and Roy and Dean would be great friends. Ya'll know what I mean? I just feel like UK and Carolina are somehow different than Arizona, UCONN, Mich ST, Dook, etc. Anyway, since we will probably be out early in the '05-'06 tourney (although you never know with Carolina), TAKE IT ALL UK BOYS! And check out my new webist on 'greatest clutch shooters from the past 20 years, COLLEGE AND PRO'. ))))))))))))))))))))))))JOHN G))))))))))) ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))UPDATE: JOHN G, yeah, but Kentucky doesn't suck like Indiana does. I'll tell ya who rules - Sean May. Now don't that just make an Indiana fan feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

Scandal has been as much a part of the University of Kentuckys basketball history as triumph. Here are the lowlights: 1952 The aftermath of a severe point-shaving scandal made UK, in effect, the first school to get the death penalty. In November, the NCAA asked its member schools not to play Kentucky in mens basketball during the 1952-53 season. The NCAA cited at least four instances over a four-year period of UK supporters giving Kentucky players money. As a result, UK canceled its basketball season. The examples of illegal subsidization of players came to the attention of the NCAA after they arose in court documents relating to the massive point-shaving scandal of the late 1940s. That national scandal ensnared at least 31 players from around the United States. Adolph Rupp, who had publicly vowed that gamblers couldnt get to our players with a 10-foot pole, was embarrassed when ex-UK stars Ralph Beard and Alex Groza admitted accepting cash. Kentuckys 7-1 center, Bill Spivey, was also accused of shaving points. Though he passed a lie-detector test and a New York jury hung 9-3 in favor of his acquittal, Spivey was nonetheless banned from basketball. 1976 Kentucky hit the daily double of cheating, going on probation in both football and mens basketball at the same time. Among violations the NCAA cited were cars and cash apparently offered to UK players, as well as some recruits who chose other schools. At the time, 12 Kentucky boosters were ordered to disassociate themselves from UK athletics. The basketball program was given two years of probation and limited to signing three new players in both 1978 and 1979. 1985 In a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative series, the Herald-Leader reported that 26 former UK basketball players said they accepted either cash or gifts from boosters. After investigating for almost three years, the NCAA said in March 1988 that it had been unable to substantiate the infractions reported by the newspaper. The NCAA reprimanded UK for not cooperating with the investigation. 1988 Some 28 days after the NCAA concluded its previous investigation, an air-freight package sent by UK to the father of a basketball recruit popped open in Los Angeles, revealing $1,000 in $50 bills. In addition to that infraction, the NCAA subsequently alleged that UK player Eric Manuel cheated on his ACT to earn a score high enough to qualify for eligibility. Ultimately, Kentucky was hit with three years of probation, including a two-year tournament ban and a one-year live TV blackout. Only the cooperation of then-UK President David Roselle in the investigation kept Kentucky from getting the death penalty, the NCAA said. There is no way any of your claims that the Wildcats are the greatest college basketball team of all time are true. Look at all of these violations and examples of cheating! And those are only the ones we caught. Odds are they've been getting away with stuff like that all along. And now you know. HOOSIERS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UK is the best college basketball program ever. Which means UNC, UCLA, Indiana and Duke can kiss our Big Blue Butts.
big_boy55 03/02/2005
Pretty good but KU's better
HoosierHaterUK Lover 02/14/2005
The Wildcats will do some serious damage in March while their rival Indiana will be mowing their lawns.
LAWILDCAT 02/13/2005
Kentucky Basketball sets the standard for all others to look up to, and stive to achieve. The Wildcats have played in a final four every decade from the 40's to the 90's, winning championships in 4 different decades, and will surely make it again before this decade is out. They have the most all time wins, and no team has dominated in a conference like UK has in the SEC. UK is GREAT and stands alone at the top of the College Basketball World.
BlueNation 01/17/2005
They had it before you, they'll have it during you, and they'll have it after you're all gone and forgotten.

I'm an IU student, so this may seem a bit sacreligious, but here i go. As my friend constantly points out, UK is the winningest college basketball team in the land and will break UCLA's 11-championship record soon enough. When Pitino left, Tubby picked up right where Rick left off and took UK right to the title. They haven't finished the job in the past couple of years, but I see 'em doing it this year....unless, of course, IU is in there!
numbah16tdhaha 10/02/2004
I laughed my ass off when Arizona beat them for the title in '97
illusive_311 10/02/2004
UK KICKS A**, MORE HISTORICAL TRADITION IN THE NCAA RANKS THAN ANY OTHER. MOST IF NOT ALL SCHOOLS HAVE A GOOD RUN AND TAPER OFF AFTER A FEW YEARS, OR EVEN A DECADE, BUT UK HAS BEEN GOING STRONG SINCE 1903. THEY WON THIER FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP IN '48, SECOND IN '49 AND FINISHED FIRST IN THE FIRST EVER ASSOCIATED PRESS BASKETBALL POLL. CURRENTLY THEY HAVE STRUGGLED UNDER HEAD COACH TUBBY SMITH, BUT HISTORY ALWAYS REPEATS ITSELF.GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!
VBA 09/09/2004
simply the best college basketball program of all time. The statistics back it up, and they have the best fan support in colege basketball. Also look at their scheduel every year, they do not dodge anyone, yet they are always in the top 10, or in the running for the championship. Unlike Someone like Duke, who plays 1 or 2 tough games before the ACC, and will not play anyone out of conference on their home court. Its either at Cameron indoor or a nutural site.
makem 08/01/2004
Overall Kentucky has the most wins in college basketball, the best winning percentage in college basketball, the most consensus All-Americans, the most AP top 10 finishes, the most wins in the NCAA championship, 41 SEC titles (more than the rest of the SEC COMBINED!), 23 SEC Tournament Championships, 15 National Attendance crowns, and seven NCAA Championships (second only to UCLA). They are the best!

JEALOUS OF DUKE AND CAROLINA!
Denni 07/12/2004
I hate UK, many of their fans have no class whatsoever or are just plain evil.
jonhere 07/09/2004
Ok, so I should have given them a 5 but I just can't get myself to do it.
cattay 06/10/2004
They are the best team there has ever been. Tuby is great, but it doesnt matter who the coach is, the cats will always win.
Byrdiohead 05/26/2004
Kentucky what? Go Blazers

Dont like them!
litedatura 03/16/2003
UK will always be number one with me. Of course, it helps that they are the winningest team in history and they are the best team this year! Here's to dancing all the way in 2003...
ERudited 02/22/2003
Above average talent. Great inside game, but poor from the perimeter. Defense wins for the Cats. Don't look for long ride in the tournament. Too easy to exploit.
jefftb 07/31/2002
Corrupt Arena. Rape Arena. Tubby best thing that has happened for UK! Leave Rupp and play some real teams on the road, then we'll see.
