I first read about Stoney River last year when I became aware that they were planning to open a location near my parents' house. I went in for lunch and a few beers when I found myself nearby another one of their locations. Stoney River has an outdoorsy, American-get-away theme to it, but don't head into it thinking it is another Outback or similar steakhouse. They have an expensive menu for a chain, probably most comparable to a Ruth's Chris. The cheapest steak on the menu was a twenty-four dollar sirloin, and no entree could be had off of their dinner menu for less than twenty dollars. Each appetizer will run you at least ten dollars, so its definitely not a restaurant for everybody. The location I went to had a nice set up and ambience. Its a casual dining experience, but you would probably get a few looks if you showed up in a T-shirt. It had a small, but nice bar area with a couple of TVs to keep people entertained. Their beer selection had some interesting choices and not just the usual domestic crap. There was also a good collection of single-malt scotches on the top shelf, which was another sign that they aren't trying to cater to the common folk. I went in during the early afternoon, and definitely wasn't willing to spend the amount of money they wanted for their entrees. They do have a lunch menu with some less expensive options, but you still won't find anything for less than ten dollars. I had a fresh catch sandwhich, which was fried grouper with pico de gallo and spicy slaw. The fish was well prepared and everything on the plate tasted fresh. It was a good meal and the service was good and friendly. I liked Stoney River, but my rating is probably incomplete without having tried their steaks. Its not a place I would go to often because of the price, but if the quality of what I experienced carries over to the rest of their menu, then it is probably a place to go for a quality dinner.
