 | edboogie2004 (1) 09/10/2008 | I'm not much of Dr. Phil fan myself. I think he gives decent advice and his shows, when I've actually watched them are interesting. But the thing that bothered me is how this guy can talk about weight loss when he himself is fat! Let me say that again, YOU'RE FAT DR. PHIL! What's next... George Bush reading a book?!?

 | crutchie (0) 06/12/2008 | So called"doctor" Philis probably a porn addict, hits his kids and back hands his wife for looking at store mannequins, at home alone he masturbates over Oprah. A pathetic excuse for a human, that makes money for the suffering and injustices of the human race. He hasnt helped anyone but himself and filled women's head with crap worldwide.

 | Tomorrow44 (0) 05/12/2007 | The show isn't the same any more. It's too much of what's going to happen "Next" and all the pre views of what is going to happen "Next". They took a great show and there turning it into a circus. It's also taking too much time away from the show. Many of my friends feel the same way. I hope Dr Phil changes things back to the way it was were before. It's awful now.

 | GoinDownSlow (27) 04/11/2007 | While not the first guy to practice telepsychiatry, he's uniquely responsible for millions of people walking around with "I'm Okay, You're Okay" tucked neatly under their arms and a sick assed grin, reminiscent of Jack Nicholson's "Here's Johnny!" in "The Shining", plastered on their faces.
For that alone, Oprah should burn in hell for setting this master of psychobabble loose upon hordes of mentally weak viewers.

 | rok100 (6) 04/11/2007 | It's amazing just how far a guy can get in this country with a junior college BS degree in pop psychology, a suitcase full of phrases and tag-lines from 1970-1980s self-help books, and a cult of personality following. I haven't listened to this guy finish EVEN ONE SENTENCE since I heard him finish the first one. If Dr. Phil had an old big-top tent and PA system, he'd be a red-state, snake-handling, speaking in tongues tent revival preacher. When you are a weed, you tend to grow where you're planted.
Some BS is just too blatant for long term consumption, life is just too short to suffer the kinds of fools who GET PAID to get on your nerves and shrink your mind. Has anyone checked to make sure that this isn't just Dr. Laura in disguise?

 | merhba (0) 10/20/2005 | I was totally disgusted by 'Dr" Phil's approach on yesterday's show about homosexuality. There was this lady guest who admitted to all America that she was homophobic and to add insult to injury she was scared that her 4 year old who loved to play with dolls and wear mummy's clothes would somehow turn out gay!
What a load of rubbish! It is obvious to people with a minimum quota of God given intelligence, the the mother was the problem not the innocent child. Her attitude smacked of sheer intolerance and unmitigated stupidity! Instead of educating viewers, 'Dr' Phil suggested that mommy, who, by the way, is about to separate from daddy, give 'gender free' toys to her 4 year old.........and......if his propensity to play with girls' toys persisted, then couselling was suggested.
"Dr' Phil, since when do boys who comb dolls' hair turn out queer? And if they did, what's the big deal? Frankly, mum looked very plain on your show. She needs a good hairstylist. Who knows? Maybe this is Divine Justice!"

 | Jennifer Mathews (0) 09/16/2005 | Thank you, thank you for your show with Beth Hollaway Twitty. Since hurricane Katrina I have been unable to get up to date info on Natalie. Beth has to be one of the most , controlled and loving mothers in the world. I do not know how she is able to contian her emotions. It is a true show of Motherly love!!! I am a mother of 2 daughters and also a grandmother. Something positive must come from this. Beth needs to know where her daughter is and the USA should know how dangerous it is to travel in Aruba. Maybe we could have an universal rating system on foreign countries. For example, takes good care of tourist to very unsafe for US citizens especially women. Maybe countries that surrive on American dollars would try to get an excellent rating on vacation safety!!!! I can sleep better tonight because of your show today. I just love you for adapting Beth's tragedy and unbelievable struggle as if it were your own. She can now be a mother, and wife. God Bless You and I will keep wathcing Dr. Phil.

 | aagilmores (0) 12/27/2004 | Sorry to those sorry arrogant morons who cannot deal with the truth! Yeah! Most people do not want to hear the truth and that is essentially the basis of the Dr. Phil Show! He is just telling people what they need to know, but don't want to hear. So those of you who placed him at a less than average rating, you cannot deal with the truth. Running from your problems only makes them worse! So, all in all, I think Dr. Phil or his management/crew is finally bringing what America needs to the surface and I think that is what we need.

 | uviuviuvi (0) 09/14/2004 | Dr. Phil is nothing more than an actor. He isnt a genius inventing a satirical way to help people and entertain the folks at home at the same time. He is an employee of NBC who has an entire production staff that is responsible for each and every show. Phil comes in each morning and is handed his agenda, a script of sorts, on what he'll be doing and how to conduct himself with it. From there its mostly improv on his part with interjections from the directing staff on where they want the show to go during that episode.
Im not saying the man is dumb or has no education, im just saying he isnt practicing psychology by any means, nor really trying to help people that much. The show exists for one reasn people, so listen up and listen good.
***COMMERCIALS!!!***
If the advertisers who try to sell you their swiffer mops, diet pepsi, and chevy trucks dont think anybody is watching, they stop paying NBC to air them. NBC doesnt get their money, they pull the show. So Dr.Phil is really all about getting people to sit through 20 minutes of commercials, and if that means sacrificing important issues or breakthroughs for the patient, so beit.

 | PhilFan (0) 08/06/2004 | Its either love him or hate him-which means people don't GET him: Dr. Phil EXISTS because of this gulf--if not him, it'd be someone else. Here's the point: Dr. Phil has people on who SHOULD have a clue but don't (unlike Jerry Springer et al who have STUPID people who can't help themselves). Dr. Phil then rips these people 'cause they've got it coming to them. Further, his smug egotistical attitude and snide comments are the whole GENIUS of him! This is very subtle dry humor here folks. It is nearly satire. The point of Dr. Phil is ENTERTAINMENT!!! Not psychology! I think the man is genius at what he is doing (which is NOT psychology). He is, in and of himself, a parody. He knows it too....think about it--watch this show with a different mindset and you'll see what I'm saying. He's also quite sexy!

 | EyeOnMedia (0) 07/28/2004 | This is creative TV, something that is rare these days. Phil evokes a lot of passionate reaction and that is a good sign.
I am perturbed that he is talking so much about weight and body image. Since he is a male, he has not experienced what culture does to women first hand, i.e. middle school bullying, bombardment of ideal female images, etc. He doesn't talk to blacks about African American issues without a member of that group, why does he tell the women to diet? Ugh.
If he was a woman he would be considered fat, and probably wouldn't have a show. I don't think he gets how he comes across. Geez.

 | Twiggy664 (0) 07/02/2004 | I think we all need to remember that Dr. Phil is a psychologist, not Dear Abbey. Although its understandable that he needs to make his point clear in an hour show, this is not the approach that a psychologist should be taking. I have watched the show alot and although there are certain guests that we all feel like yelling at such as the children who have no remorse about bullying and attacking other children on the schoolbus, its not Dr. Phil's place to yell at them and repremand them, although that is what we want to see. Practicing psychologists are not paid to give advice - they are paid to help the client work through their issues themselves. Telling guests on the show that they are dumb as rocks is completely unethical and insulting to the field of psychology. If this is what he chooses to do on a T.V. show as an occupation, he should do it under the title of advisor or talk-show host, not as a psychologist.

 | wishiwasrichandfamou (0) 05/13/2004 | I think that Dr. Phil should really explore more about Erin and the children before he keeps putting
Marty in the hotseat the way he does. Erin as you can see has enough of her own issues before she can forgive Marty. Everything seems to be aimed at him, when it is clear that his children and wife are totally disrespectful do to their mother's feelings toward their father. Why would they try to get along with him if they have Dr. Phil and their mother backing up all the disrespect they get away with. I am the mother of four sons and one stepdaughter ranging in ages from 33 to 12 and never would I allow my children to react in this manner that have I witnessed in the last two times on your show. This family is definetly in crisis but Erin is a big part of the situation, and this is not being brought to our attention. A child does not get pregnant at 15 do to the neglect of one parent, and a family does not fall apart because a man cannot talk openly because of his childhood. I hope you try to bring out the true problems in this family rather then focusing on the insecurity of Marty. Erin seems to be willing of taking care of her self but I don't think she has really been there for the children, and maybe that's why Marty has to react in the manner in which he does. He must have been very angry when his 15 year-old came home pregnant and as a father he thought the best thing to do was for he to keep the the baby, and now he is being disowned by the three of them. I know from experience how a mother can influence her children as Erin is doing. This is totally wrong and I hope on upcoming shows that you concentrate more on what Erin is doing to these children than Marty's neglecting to tell his wife he ran in- to someone he had an affair with. This is because we all saw the reaction from his children and his wife on public t.v. It was something that anyone would not want to deal with after seeing their reaction to that. I don't know if this was to make your show more dramatic or what. I know one thing but I would not want to come home and tell my wife I ran into someone I had an affair with if this was the reaction! Please try to honestly help this family get their life together without all the dramatics for your show, or tell Erin to leave and stop dragging this man through the mud another day. It seems to me he had a rough enough childhood and carries enough guilt without you blaming him for every problem in this family. The big lie he was hiding was just trying to protect Erin from additional worry about finances. Please think about this and let me know of one man that has not tried do that to protect their wife from worry.

 | CherrySoda99 (31) 03/31/2004 | I will admit, this show is better then some others. But I was never really down with the whole help people with their problems on national tv kind of thing. I think that if you have a problem, that you think is serious enough to think you have to go on national television, you should deal with it in your own country, city, town ect. Seek professional help. I'm not saying that Dr Phil is a bad guy. He's probably a very nice guy. But, talkshow hosts don't seem to just have all the stuff that people need to solve the problems,

These people took 2 full grown cats to a kill shelter. Shame on them. They were probably killed. They did this because they were in debt. The woman needed to give up her habit shopping at Victoria's Secret on a monthly basis. She actually had money in the budget for this item. Plus the couple made over $100k per year. Feeding 2 cats really would not have made the difference in their house. Shame on Dr. Phil for advising these people to throw away pets and shame on the people who did it. I would like to get on the show just to tell him off.

 | Amywwd (0) 02/27/2004 | I have only been watching Dr. Phil for a couple of months but I do not see why so many of you have a problem with him. He is very straightforward but seems to me to genuinely want to help people. He not only gives good advice, he a lot of times actively participates in helping people make the changes that they need to make. He doesn't just talk about it and go on to the next show, he hires trained people for their specific problems a lot of times and he follows up on people. I thought it was wonderful that he provided for that boy that was terrorizing the (screwed up) family to go to the ranch in TX. That kid deserately needed out of that house. I also thought it was great how he blessed another family's son with a drug treatment program, then got him a part as an extra on CSI, and blessed another girl with a trip to Cancun to explore her passion with marine biology. It appears from the follow-ups that he truly does help people that come to him wanting help. By being so harsh, critical and judgemental you put yourself in the same catagory as you put Dr. Phil and lower in my opinion. I think what you're really perturbed about is that he strikes a chord of truth in you in some of the things that he says, that you're not ready to deal with.
