The appointment of Sotomayor shouldn't bother authoritarians of the right, left or center.

Obama’s a big time lib, he was an activist, and now Justice Souter is retiring. Dumbo gets to pick a Liberal activist for the Supreme Court. We on the Right get to bitch about it, I get all that. Please, Libs, stop trying to turn this nominee into something she’s not.

I only give it 3 stars because replacing Souter, most likely, will not change the court in a significant way. When/If Obama replaces a conservative like Scalia, or Kennedy, who is currently seen as the swing vote on many issues, then that will be a 5 star event.

It is well known to Washington D.C. insiders that Associate Justice David Souter had longed to go back to New Hampshire, and that he was never really comfortable around Washington circles. As such, I do not think it was much of a surprise for Justice Souter to announce his retirement at the relatively young age of 69, giving Barack Obama his first opportunity to nominate a justice of his choosing to the United States Supreme Court. As far as the significance of his pending retirement, it does not really change the complexion of the high court as he was a reliable liberal vote in a majority conservative brethren. Yet, a retirement by any Supreme Court justice is bound to be noteworthy.

Ho hum. David Souter is really a household name, isn't he. All the commentators say he is a lefto and about the only news that his successor would make if she is a half-Hispanic, half-Black, illegal immigrant, trans-sexual in odd years and lesbian in even years whose grandparents were cannibals and whose parents were concentration camp guards. Now that would be news.

Supreme Court Justice David Souter Announces His Retirement 5

I think Souter retiring is a fairly significant event. 99% of the time, I hate both sides of the aisle but honestly, I am glad that Obama will be selecting someone to fill this vacancy rather than a John McCain who would pick Judge Dredd or Chris Dodd who would pick a cash symbol dressed in a robe.

Significant in that it will indicate to the few Americans who care just how radically liberal Obama's expected two, possibly three, subsequent appointments will be. Souter, along with the liberal president who appointed him, are an outrage to conservatives in his stalwart support of liberal ideology and reliably left-wing voting record during his tenure on the SC.

His replacement will likely be a woman, I conjecture a black woman, who shares the wild-eyed, radical viewpoint Obama has brought to Washington. I also predict no substantial dissent from what was once a national party (the republicans) lest they be called racists, and gala parties in all newsrooms and media circles with the single exception of Fox, boosting FoxNews' already skyrocketing ratings.
