John le Carre 5

A very, very skilled writer who invented the literary thriller with Spy who came in from the Cold, and went on to a great triumph in the Karla trilogy. His latest novel steps away from his usual moral ambivalence and is sure to distress some of his fans. Don't be deceived, it may be his best work ever. Brilliant stuff, but don't read him if you're looking for James Bond.

This is the pseudonym of David John Moore Cornwell, a writer of Cold War and spy novels. I have read many of them and I recommend them highly. Hollywood has translated many to the silver screen and television. I'll give you a link so you can see how important to cinema he has been.

The Spy Who Came in From the Cold is easily the best Cold War novel ever written. Most of his work since has been uneven, however, and Le Carre has became something of a Chomskyist, Anti-American crank.
