We took this audio book with us on one of our road trips and what a trip it was! The book was enjoyable, satirical, thrilling, engaging, and a vintage Grisham with twists, turns, and surprises all through! Do not question the plausibility of the plot. Just pop in the CD, sit back, relax, and enjoy! Patrick Lanigan is a fugitive on the run! A lawyer in the past, now living in remote Brazil with $90 million scattered across various banks in the world. He is most wanted by FBI, State of Mississippi, a private sleuth, and a bunch of thugs. Does he get caught? Where did he get the $90 million? Does he get to keep it or lose it? Did he commit a murder that everyone believes he did? Why did he leave behind his wife and young daughter and disappear? Read PARTNER for the answers. While Grisham has proved time and again to be a master story teller, what makes this one stand out is the narration by Frank Muller. He changes his voice in hundred different ways to suit the character, emotion, and situation. He holds the listener's attention all through. Whether you are planning a road trip or a day on the beach, I'd highly recommend you carry this audio book with you!

This book grabs hold of you from page one and never lets go!!! It is amoung Grisham's best second only to The King of Torts. If you enjoy legal thrillers or any Grisham novel you'll love this one.

I've read many Grisham books and generally like his style. He's obviously comfortable in the courtroom setting and I loved the detailed legal twists and turns in The Partner. The sign of a good work of fiction is we come to believe it's a true story about real people. Unfortunately, at the very end I felt the author threw away credibility for the sake of another "twist" - unbelievable and very disappointing after such a great ride. If they ever make a movie of this they better have the sense to end it the obvious way that does not betray what has gone before. Five Stars for great writing and plot, minus three stars for ripoff ending = two stars.

Took this one on vacation with me to Florida, it's one of those books you cannot put down. The opening six chapters or so are excellent (although the torture scenes were a little too much for me, so I speed read those!), and i absolutely love court room scenes, and Grisham is by far the king of those. This is perhaps my seventh Grisham novel, I think the guy keeps getting better and better, certainly this book has a more polished feel (perhaps he was writing with a movie in mind, but you never know). It does certainly read like a Hollywood movie - I'll have to check after this review wether it's been made into one. Overall, a fantastic vacation read and highly recommended. I love stories, and as stories go this is great. He doesn't waste too much time on descriptions and flowery language, and the plot moves along at a thrilling pace.

AFTER JOHN GRISHAM'S FIRST 3 NOVELS, I THOUGHT HE COULD BECOME ONE OF THE GREATEST AUTHORS EVER. HE THEN WENT DOWN HILL AND COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED ME, EVEN THOUGH I CONTINUED TO READ EACH NEW RELEASE. THE PARTNER WAS A TURNAROUND. AS WITH ALL HIS NOVELS IT MOVES VERY FAST AND KEPT MY ATTENTION. I LIKED THE STORY LINE MUCH BETTER, ALTHOUGH IT DID BECOME PREDICTABLE. THIS BOOK WAS GOOD, BUT COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT. THERE IS NOT A TON OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT BUT THE STORY WAS GREAT. A GOOD FAST READ.
