I read the first book then purchased and devoured the next two. It has been sometime since I read the last novel in the trilogy and the images are still in my mind and my dreams. These are the first books by Terry Brooks that I've read; and so the tie-in with other novels was lost on me and did not matter. Reading this tale was a great adventure.

Fantastically written with meticulous descriptions on the characters that really brought them to life! A past-time well spent on this book and don't forget to get the prequels: Amargeddon's Children and Elves of Cintra too!

The Shannara series is enjoyable but each of the trilogies follow a standard formula so there are very few surprises. I enjoy Terry's tales but the series needs a different format than write Book 1, 2 and 3 of a trilogy, OK I'm done with that, now on to another trilogy.

I enjoyed this trilogy overall, despite the fact that it seems to be written for late teens or young adults. There are no big surprises here,a conclusion that seems to only dispense with characters who are so on the periphery of the central story their demise is more an afterthought rather than a devastating loss for the reader. You also have a bunch of kids who have had to survive on the street who all speak with nary a dirty word between them. That's not to say I'm looking for profanity, I just felt it turned the whole series a little PG. However, it's still a fun ride, and there are many who will certainly find it an enjoyable and satisfying conclusion.

My husband loves Terry Brooks, and this series, according to him, was the best yet. I've never seen him get so involved in book before. Of course I had to sit there and listen to him describing what he had read. Not my kind of book, but, it was his. He'd tell everybody to read this book if they're into Terry Brooks. So, he liked it and it kept him interested, so I guess it's good!
