Lowest of the low. I have first hand experience with it and I can't even comprehend just how bullshit it is.

I bought my first Mac, I suppose, 20 years ago, and I much prefer it over DOS and Windows. It is laughable to think back about having to use keyboard commands for DOS machines. I also had a Commodore, so that was the same as DOS basically. The use of the mouse and clicking was revolutionary at the time. Microsoft never caught up until recently, and then Mac OS 10 has it beat all hollow. Also you don't get viruses, worms, and other such destructs if you use a Mac on the Web. Mac is much superior.

Loved it whilst it lasted, laptop got wet, screen blew up, new screen was 675 (minus the cost of repair), whole laptop cost 699. You do the math. Cheaper for this cheap as chips laptop at 375, with twice the speed of the old one and you can still enjoy the look and feel of open source, just saddly not running OS X :(

Mac OS 9, which I use on my iBook, is by far the best operating system I have used. I started using the Mac OS when System 6 was current, and then upgraded to System 7 on my old machine (a Macintosh LC, which I still own but don't use anymore). What I liked was that after going years without a new Macintosh I could still use the operating system without a problem. It also has done well in the long term; I have had the iBook for almost seven years now. While it's getting harder to find software that will still work with it I have no problem sticking with Word 98, Photoshop Elements 2, iTunes 2, AppleWorks 5, and MacDraw II. Impressive is that OS 9 runs MacDraw II just like the old System 7 did--that program is one I used on my LC before I got the iBook! Customization is great in Mac OS 9. It used to be that to set a desktop pattern you needed a little program called Backdrop. No longer an issue here. More stuff is built in as well--I used to use a program called SuperClock and that is now part of the system (though I think it has been since System 7.5). The only downfall is that it doesn't run on the Mac LC! I guess the ancient machine just didn't have enough power and RAM to use it, plus it wasn't a Power PC. My favorite feature is that you can turn OFF virtual memory. I hate that stuff--it's slow! You can't do that in OS X, the replacement for OS 9. OS X also feels less polished in general, is less customizable, is slower, and has a weird interface with its dock and lack of desk accessories. I will probably use OS 9 until I'm safely six feet under or until someone forces me to use OS X.

I don't know what those other guys are smoking But Mac OS and Mac OS X are two differant OS's Mac OS is outdated crap, while Mac OS X is modern and stylish. And to all the people who say it's the best OS ever, just remember, it would still be crap if Apple didn't use FreeBSD and actually made their own OS, every new release of Mac OS X is basicly a reworked version of a new FreeBSD release with Aqua and their OpenGL component (forgot it's name) thrown on top.

Old and slow compared with OS X Panther. More limited software choices now that Panther is the wave of the future.

I do not like Macintosh's brand of computers nor thier operating systems. Im' sorry. In my Electronics class, we wre forced to use4 macs and they would always crash.

Mac OS X.2 For everyday computer use, this OS is outstanding. It is the most stable operating system I have ever used. Is is so far beyond any windows system ... imagine an operating system that never crashes! (The only things that have ever crashed on my computer are Microsoft products, and even then just the app crashes, not the whole system.)

If you want the stability of a unix-based OS and a great desktop environment, check out Linux with KDE first. Only go with mac if you've got the extra cash.

OS X.2 (Jaguar) Is the best thing to happen to the Macintosh since Lisa, it is the best OS I have ever used. It is fast, it has better compatibiblity, and is has Classic Environment that you can use to open all your old non-carbon applications. A must have for any Apple owner. Think Different.

This is a somewhat unclear title, seeing as their are two major variants of the Mac OS right now -- OS 9, and the completely different OS X. I'm talking about OS X. While it isn't perfect, it's a damn good operating system, especially if you have any kind of a Unix background. The Mach kernel and FreeBSD core give you access to the whole universe of fantastic unix tools, but the GUI wrapper around them makes for a very pleasant day-to-day computing experience. And it's a much more open, legally less restrictive OS than Windows -- if you're interested, you can really get under the hood and much around with it.
