"Holy Smokes" was a fantastic ending to the Aisling Grey, Guardian Series. Although I would have been happy with another book or two of Aisling, this was fun.

You will enjoy this book if you love a main character who "wonder[s] if there was ever going to be a time when she wasn't at least five paces behind everyone else, mentally speaking" (p.128) and additionally wonders if "[t]his is going to be another one of those days where people start talking about stuff like she knows what's going on, only she really doesn't, and she spends the whole time trying to catch up" (p. 137). The author uses the main character's willful ignorance and deliberate stupidity as an excuse not to have a plot or character development. Even if this were the only book available to read, your time would be better spent balancing your checkbook or cleaning the toilet.

I have to say I have enjoyed every Aisling Gray novel that has come out from Katie MacAlister; I mean how can you not love it. There are guardians, dragons (yummy), witches, demons and every otherworld type out there... The dragons of course are especially yummy; I mean how can you not adore dominating men who are Dragons that can fill you with fire (literally). Can you say YUM? So, this is the fourth book in this series and Aisling and Drake have gone through there ups and downs. Her needing to be a guardian and a demon lord and him being an archaic male who expected her to be a nice subservient mate, who eventually realized (in this book) the power of a strong woman who stands up for her self for her man (and to her man). HAVE I SAID YUM ENOUGH! This is quote from the book that I thought was perfect, "I used to think that love meant just wanting to be with someone. But it's more than that. It's all the frustrations and irritations and gloriously wondrous times all wrapped together in one magical being that has become so ingrained in me, I don't think we could ever be separated into our original parts" (p.281). Doesn't that just give you the warm and fuzzies? Now don't get me wrong, this book is non-stop action and ciaos mixed with sick humor and strange going on's (but that just make it interesting). Can't wait for the new series Ghost of Chance (the preview wets the appetite)

Just like all of Katie's other books, this book was just as AWESOME!! Can't wait for the next one in the sequel. I had this book read in one night, even though I had to get up early the next day, I could NOT put it down! Awesome book!

I'd like a little closure with some of these books. I enjoy the characters even though Jim is annoying and Aisling is helpless and airheaded at times, but I wish more would be resolved. Hardly anything happened in this book to further the plot. There was danger, people were running around after people, nothing was getting explained to Aisling (and therefore us), and then more issues were presented, with no resolution. I've had about enough of books that keep building and building with no end in sight. I've read the 15 book series that go on and on about nothing, and it's not fun. I enjoy authors that plan out a series, set a book number, and resolve things as the books go along. When you write without planning books become dry and pointless-this series is getting there. I was very annoyed at the lack of closure in this book. It's sad because I really like the dragon septs and the secondary characters, but interesting plot lines get left behind in place or unimportant ones. More questions arise than are answered, it's frustrating.
