The best female author I have ever read. Her understanding of magic definitely had an amazing, incredible impact on her writing, especial with the Mists of Avalon. The Darkover books are excellent as well.

I thought Mists of Avalon was a stinker. What a bunch of politically correct New Age revisionist crap about the Arthurian Legend. Stick to the classics.

What about her The Fall of Atlantis which is a great book about the mythical land of Atlantis? I found it to be really intriging! Also, do not forget her The Firebrand which is her take on Kassandra of Troy, and the entire Trojan War with Helen of Sparta! This is an AMAZING BOOK! I highly recommend either book, or even both of them! Have not had a chance to read her others yet... Tried Mists of Avalon, but when I seem to read about 20 books at a time, I sort of forget about where I have the other books at a given time... Oops! :-(

I hated The Mists of Avalon! If you want toread good King Arthur novels, please read Parke Godwin. Very innovative writer.

The Avalon series is the best version of the Arthurian legend I have ever read!

One of my favourites! Her Mists of Avalon is still the best I've read on the Arthurian legend, with an unusual and multi-faceted look at a familiar story. The Darkover series are simpler, more escapist reading, but I've enjoyed them as well. Have read most of her books and been disappointed by only a couple of them. In addition, many of her books have given me something to think about -- and who could ask for more from an author?

Very difficult to finish; took several years. I found myself rooting for the pagans rather than the Christians. What struck me was the line about humans needing a simpler religion where one dies once...and goes to heaven.

I havn't read any of Bradley's other stuff but I have to say that Mist of Avalon was one of the most beutiful book I've ever read and I ver highly recommend it to anyone. Don't get intimmidated by it's lenght- by the end, you'll wish it was longer!

I haven't read enough of her books to make much of a comment on them. I have read both The Forbidden Tower, and Star of Danger. The first I really enjoyed, its characters and storyline very interesting and exciting, but the second I found a little simplistic. Even so, it was a good read, the sort of thing I'd read for light "going away" reading.

Marion Zimmer Bradley's books are interesting and fun. Plus they add valuable knowledge of myths and ancient history.

One of the best there is. Her series of Avalon is a master piece and should be read.

The early books were really good. She could write really interesting, "suck you in" books, and really bad, "sucks air" books!

I cannot sing enough praises for MZB when she was at her best. Unfortunately, when she wasn't at her best, it was usually pretty mundane stuff. It's unfortunate that she was never consistent, for she did seem to have a real gift for storytelling when she was at her best. I cannot recommend Mists Of Avalon, Heritage of Hastur, and Sharra's Exile highly enough. I would recommend the majority of the rest of her books pre-1990s for good reads, because while they may tends towards mundanity, she always told a story excellently.

I have collected almost all of her early books - fantastic!
