The book was a little difficult to get into at first.Molly was a bit of a whiner. Then all of a sudden I was hooked and couldn't put it down. There I was at work crying over the story which was real and compelling. We had a great discusion at book group over when to pull the plug.

An excellent book--I could not put it down. This book presented some interesting dilemnas and the different ways different people react.

First time with this author. Not impressed. The first 150 pages are repititious. Robin is a gifted runner who has a massive heart attack and is brain dead. Mom can't and won't accept it. Sister Molly, the less liked adult daughter, feels guilty, Dad is a weenie, brother can't communicate. Page after page is how Robin is brain dead, mom can't accept, doesn't want to tell people etc. Over and over it says the same thing. Nothing ever happens. 200 pages in I'm still waiting for more to the story. Not worth reading. Felt like a Judy Picoult wannabe.

I enjoyed watching the different characters evolve as a result of events. A mother's love evolved and changed for the better. A sister became more self confident. An typical media type showed atypical emotion. A good samaritan deserves respect for his consistent value system. Many social issues touched here! Decisions about the beginning of a life, the ending of a life and the saving of many lives.

I am a big Barbara Delinsky fan; this story was riveting and loaded with emotions. Through the author we learned a great deal about this family. While the horror of Robin's condition begins to envelope this family, Molly steps forward and brings her family together, healing and cementing the family ties. I don't usually cry, but this story made me weep. I would recommend it to anyone.
