I love Jude Deveraux. I have all of her books (some of them with multiple covers) so I was very excited when this book came out. I was making a trip to visit family (in the car for way too long) so I decided to buy this book on cd and listen to it. I was very disappointed in the story. Not until the end of the book do the heroine and hero even kiss, or have any type of significant sexual tension. Most of the time is spent trying to make sure the heroine doesn't find out the hero is in the CIA. Because it was abridged I thought maybe some important parts were cut out to save space. It's happened with other books before. So, I read it. Or attempted to. I almost wish Deveraux would go back to the back and forth of the Always series. At least then the storyline would keep me interested. Get it if you must (to complete the collection of books by her) but don't expect much from it.

I'm a huge fan of Jude Deveraux, so much so that I'm sceptical that she even wrote this book. Too many unbelievable story lines and very little character development.

I've been a huge fan of this author for many years, her early books are wonderful. This book was a huge disappointment and I was very sorry I spent the money on it. I felt the story was very unrealistic and felt she just had to meet a deadline to get the book done. Hope she can return to her early style of writing and come up with some better story lines in the future.

Ok---so maybe not up to par as far as her other books go, but I thought this was really enjoyable. To me, it read like a romantic comedy. I could SO see Sandra Bullock as the woman, and some other equally tried and true actor as the guy. If you don't expect a great piece of literature, you won't be disappointed. Again, it's true, this is not as great as her other books...I was totally hooked when I read Knight in Shining Armor. That was the first Jude Deveraux book I had ever read, and it remains an all time favorite of mine in that genre. I'm sorry to see so many 1 star reviews of this book. It was a fun, quick read, and it was just delightful.

Well, after reading all of the reviews on this book I can see that I'm going to be a rare one and say that I really LIKED this book. I'm a mom who also works 40 hours a week and I read this book in a little under a few hours, because I liked the mysterious plot. Now, if you're looking for steamy romance, this ISN'T the book for you, as it is surprisingly lacking for a Deveraux novel. However, if you're into a good page turning mystery with SOME romance, then I would recommend this one. I found Cassie, the main character in this novel to be an easy to love character, and her love interest Jefferson Ames, has his reasons for being emotionally standoffish. I think this book is one you should read for yourself. If you don't want to buy it, check it out from the library.
