I quite liked this book. I loved Kristen, her spirit, her determination, her pride. Even though it sometimes kept her from what she wanted. But despite it all, she wasn't too stubborn. And I liked Royce. I liked the way he tried to resist Kristen but couldn't help himself. And I liked it that they actually spent some time together - I loved the time when they went to the lake. And I loved it when she saved him. And I loved it when she said to him that he could simply ask her to stay - but now he will never know if she would actually stay. What I didn't like, anyway, was the ending. I wanted them to decide to be together on their own, not because her parents arrived and forced him. Well, despite that, it was a beautiful story. Much better than her parent's. Or her brother's. I truly recommend this one.

WOW! I was up all night reading this. There's great chemistry between the two characters. The storyline is excellent for a historical romance book. And Roycel..blush.. ;)If you are a big historical romance reader, I recommend this book.

The whole of this story is wow... I get to travel back in time and could picture myself in that situation. Utterly romantic. This is a must read book after Fires of Winter. You can't read one without the other. I just can't stop reading this book. I read it in one day and is re-reading it. Absolutely amazing!

I don't know exactly what it is, but this book (and this trilogy) is so good that I remember loving it almost 15 years after reading it! The review by ellejir "ellejir" is right on.

Kristen Haadrad is a beautiful tall viking woman, she is strong in her will and when her older brother Selig and his crew decide to leave on a summer voyage on their fathers ship to trade in other cities, Kristen decides that she is going with them, even if she has to sneak onto the ship. When her brother discovers her in the cargo hold he is furious, but he won't take her back since they are already too far from home. Things don't end up going exactly as Kristen thought they would, they weren't going where she thought they were, and when they end up captured and forced into hard labor by the Saxons, Kristen finds herself overwhelmed and desperate to keep the Saxons in the dark on the fact that she is female, but when the handsome Lord Royce discovers her for the beautiful woman that she is, will she be able to ignore the passion that his face and body reveal when he looks at her? And will he be able to deny himself the beautiful viking that he tries so hard to hate? I really enjoyed this book, it is by far one of my favorites of Lindsey's. I really enjoy stories of captives, and she really does a wonderful job with this story both Kristen and Royce are very likeable and captivating characters. This book does not lack passion in anyway. I strongly recommend this read. :)
