Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (Judith Viorst)

The story is about Alexander and his very bad day. Read about his best friend that deserted him, and no dessert in his lunch bag and lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV. Paperback.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (Judith Viorst) 5

I almost didn't buy this book for my four year old, who was having a hard time expressing his emotions verbally, because of some of the feedback on Amazon. I am so glad that I did in fact purchase the book to read with my son. He really enjoyed hearing about Alexander's terrible, horrible, no good, really bad day and has since been better about expressing his negative feelings to me and equating his feelings with those of Alexander. PS: We also really like Alexander who used to be rich last Sunday.

my daughter loved this book. Writing is well done and the book translates to all ages about a topic not often written about.

This is one of my all-time favorite books. We all have bad days occasionally and Judith Viorst manages to find humor in the everyday disappointments, rejections and disasters of a child's life. Whether it's the cat sleeping with his brother or having to watch "kissing on TV," humor sneaks into the problematic day. We use the story's refrain to describe our "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days," helping us to keep things in perspective. The black and white ink drawings by Ray Cruz are darling. It's a wonderful addition to any child's library...and a "must" to be brought out and read at the end of a bad day!

i ordered 8 books from this company and have received 2.
it has been over 30 days. i have written 2 emails and no one responds. they state there's no other way to reach them, no cancellations and no refunds w/out returns. how can i return what i haven't gotten?
amazon is not helping.
i'd always felt i was always in good hands w/amazon.
in the future, i realize i have to be careful to see which purchases amazon will back up.

i am a mom and a special ed teacher. who does not LOVE to say..."i am having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day"???? my 4 year old loves to say it, my 14 year old loves to say it. every class i have ever taught loves to say it. my husband even loved to say it while he was on the web cam from iraq. if someone does not love this, they are not fun at all. and they do not get kids or having a fabulous chuckle. this is a way to make even the most miserable person in the world laugh at his or her own misery. some things from the 70's are worth repeating. this is one. if you do not enjoy this book, you do not enjoy life. forget australia. move to mars!

i loved this book when i was small, and i will read it to my children. It shows kids that it's ok to have a bad day, that everyone experiences them and they're not alone. Also the illustrations were fun. Especially for people like me, who have got up only to find gum in their hair.

We have all been in Alexander's shoes. It is great that the feeling of such a bad experience can be expressed to a child at an early age. It's good to know that you can live through such an experience.

As an adult, I can still relate to this wonderful story about a little boy having a rotten day. It is told in a very simple yet realistic way, including lots of situations children (and adults!) can relate to- being left out, not getting your way, and being blamed for something that's not your fault. The repetition draws you in, and the illustrations add a lot to the story. This is a classic for all ages.

I grew up with this book. I have vivid memories of the purple cover and my mom reading it to me before bed. It's been so long since I've sat down to read it that I'm now tempted to go find it at the bookstore and reread it! To this day I still describe my really bad days as "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad".

My kids simply LOVE this book! What an excellent way to express to kids that it is OK to have an awful day and to feel bad or sad once in a while. A great way to introduce the wide world of emotions to little people in a humorous and entertaining way. An excellent book for all ages! We have all had those "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days!"
