Funny, silly and good for a lot of laughs. I can still see Gene with that thin, long handled mic he carried.

Extremely witty. Gene was such a good host. All the stars were usually so funny, especially Betty, Richard and Brett.

One of my favorites. I wish they would make a new one of this show too. Of course Gene Reyborn made it and I hate hes gone now.

Game Show Network was wise to bring this back. The reruns are funny. Loved the regulars like Richard and semi-regulars like Betty.

Now THIS was/is a funny game show. The stars and regulars really made us laugh. If it weren't so great, we wouldn't have repeats constantly, which still crack us up. Favorites were: Betty White, Gene Rayburn, Brett, Charles, Patty Duke, Fanny, and Richard!

The Richard Dawson era is so good that I have to give Match Game 5 stars. Once the star wheel was introduced and Dawson departed, there was a huge void in the show, but from 1973-1978 there was no show as funny and entertaining as Match Game.

This is what I am talking about, This is what 70's gameshows are about. The campiness of Charles Nelson Reily, Fannie Flagg , Betty White etc. And now to look back at the clothes.

Best Game Show ever . CBS ought to bring back this show, in the version it used in the 70's not the dopey version of the late 80's and early 90's.

This was a great game show...way ahead of its time in regards to its humor...never took itself seriously nor did its stars like Bret Sommers, CNR, Fanny Flagg, JoAnne Phlug, Patti Deutch, Elaine Joyce etc...it was just fun to watch...Gene Rayburn was a great host who knew how to move things along...terrific!

Out of every version of the Match Game ever aired, from the original one hosted by Gene Rayburn during the late years of black & white TV to the 1998 version (which failed to reach both old and new viewers), Match Game 1973-1982 (CBS daytime, PM & AM shows in syndication) was the most memorable version of all. In only a relatively short period of time since the NBC-TV version ended, Mr. Rayburn made his grand return on CBS' Match Game 73 (the first of many digits to come) before a new stage and audience where a new variation of the popular game shall take place. Gene and the contestants (including one future CHiPs star who would one day return in a different form) weren't the only contributors in the show's long run; half of the credit goes to every panelist (including the CHiPs lady recognized as being a previous contestant) who held at least one of those 6 spots. While relatively unknown before a TV audience at the beginning, Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly grew in antics and responses along with our interest in them. Not only did this odd couple hold the same seats for much of Match's Game run, so did a certain Dawson named Richard popular among contestants during the Super Match rounds and the $1000, $2500, or $5000 questions (before the Star Wheel). As the Seventies continued to pass before viewers' eyes and minds, an interesting, yet recurring 6-person panel pattern was noticed. Most of Brett's right hand neighbors only joined a weeks worth of shows either once or Vvery occasionally (Bob Barker, David Doyle, Jimmy Walker, Nipsey Russell, and such), Richard's right hand neighbors were almost always female (such as semi-regular Elaine Joyce among those in this pretty pattern of its own), and the more semi-regulars (Betty White, Fannie Flagg, Joyce Bulifant) appeared on his left. Speaking of Miss Flagg, during her first week on the program (back in '73) she appeared on Richard's right hand side. Every fellow and lady on stage from the contestant merry-go-round to the celebrated person section were free to respond or converse in their own way (95% of that went made it through unedited for broadcast), which made the show very distinct from any other game show of its era. The end of the 1970s was near, so it was time to make a few touch ups to the on-air product of both the CBS and syndicated editions (Star Wheel, updated set), including the departure of bottom row middle man Richard for bigger fish to fry, or should I say kiss on another popular daytime game show. 1979 would mark the end of a long reign on CBS daytime for a show with a beginning as simple as its premise, but a fun & outrageous journey that we grew to love, but that was not the end for Gene and company as the first-run syndication tunnel remained open. During the show's final years, Brett & Charles would appear beside each other ever now and then, semi-regular McLean Stevenson brought new life in Dawson's former seat, and each show would feature the same two contestants competing more than once. When we look at the Match Game of the Seventies and early Eighties, we witnessed more than a game, but a daily gathering of where anything goes involving the familiar faces of entertainment and folks from the outside experiencing it all.

Not one of my favorites, but so much fun to watch! Gene is the perfect party host, it's fun to watch Charles and Brett banter back and forth, and Patti Deutch's weird answers almost always cracked me up. A classic game that always made you feel like you were welcome at a party..

My mom used to forbid me from watching this show as a kid, so I was excited to learn I could catch reruns of this kitschy 70's show on the Game Show Network. I found it to be the television equivalent of Pez. Concept is fun, but after you get a good dose of it you are forced to admit the actual candy is just a little lame. Still, can be a guilty pleasure to take in the styles of the day and the wacky panel's attempts at bawdy humor. Final verdict: I forgive mom for having me stick to The Price Is Right.

Now that GSN is airing Match Game 4 times a day, that got rid of one original show, WIN TUITION. Now fill up Weakest Link and the rest of the junk including the VIDEO GAME SHOW,which is off the air too, with Classic game shows people want to see. BRING THE CLASSICS BACK GSN. MATCH GAME RULES!

I remember watching Match Game when I was a kid! My kids crack up at the contestants hair and clothes. I really love the game, but has anyone else ever noticed that many times the game almost seems rigged? I have watched as the celebrities write an answer and you can tell that the last letter is for instance an O, or an E (very obvious)--but when they turn their card over, it says something very different. I love Match Game, but I cannot enjoy it as I did when I was a kid because now I see all the elements that just don't add up. It's kind of annoying. Also, I guess back then things were much different, but I am often appauled at the rude comments to contestants by Gene Rayburn.

This was one of the funniest game shows ever. Panelists always came up with inventive answers. My favorite stars were Betty White, Charles Nelson Reilly, Richard Dawson, Fannie Flagg and Patty Duke, plus so many others who stopped by on occasion. You had to laugh out loud at their answers!

Gene Rayburn was great on there! Brett, Charles, Richard,Betty and all the others were wonderful! Bill Daily was just as funny on MG,as he was when he played Major Healy on "I Dream Of Jeannie" and Howard Borden on "Bob Newhart". This show rules on GSN! If Gene Rayburn were still with us, he would be happy that Match Game is the top rated show on GSN!

It is so fun to watch this in reruns with my teenage daughter because she comes up with "CURRENT" answers and then when I have to tell her they didn't have those when this was filmed, she just cracks up! I wish they could get it right as a new show!!

It brings back the memories when I watched the show as a child(1973-79). I get a kick out of the suits Gene Rayburn wears. When I watch the show, I have a hard time believing Gene is no longer with us.

One of the best shows ever to have been on televison. I am in love with Gene (move over Helen), and Charles is a riot. Kudos to Bill Daily, Mclean, Elaine, Fannie and Patti Deutsch. Joyce Bulifant should have stayed home.

One of my favorites as a kid, and I still love it today. The premise was simple, and when you think about it, it's hard to put your finger on exactly what it was that made this show so successful for so many years. It was several things, but most importantly I think, it was just a great chemistry between Gene Rayburn, the regular panelists, the occasional panelists, and of course, the contestants. Too bad that all the re-incarnations of this show (in the mid-80's, circa 1990, and circa 1998) were so lousy.

One of my favorite gameshows, it features celebrity stars from musicians, TV actors, movie actors and ones from sports. Thanks to network censoring, the older versions from the 70s seen on gameshow network may have left open dirty possiblities, thankfully, the celebs knew better. Very funny.

Hee, hee! Gene Rayburn is so funny! I wish this show were still around today, I'd want to go on it! I love game shows, and even though this one is kind of cheap by today's standards as far as prize money goes, this one is really cool. I especially like Gene's voice imitations (like the ones of 101-year-old Mr. Perriwinkle---fun-ny!) and I love cracking up at the ridiculous questions and answers. No doubt---best classic game show! But I wish they had gotten rid of Brett Summers, she's kind of annoying.

This was a classic. Even though the format was not the strongest, the humor between Gene and the panelists was terrific. Nothing was scripted, so anything could happen and when it did it was not edited out. The jokes were not written for the stars like other celebrity game shows. Richard Dawson was like the center square on Match Game. When he left, there was a void until McLean Stevenson filled his spot. Too bad Richard's ego became too inflated after he started hosting Family Feud.

I would give this about a 2.5. A higher rating when it first aired when i was a kid in the 60s. It was fun to watch it then. Gene Rayburn would ask a question to the contestant and he/she would give a fill in the blank answer and the six celebrities would give their answer. If they matched the contestant he/she would get credit.who matched the most won.then it came back in the 70 and 80s and it was so different. It was nothing but sex and bathroom humor.hahahaha. How often is that funny when that is all you hear. the other annoying thing is some of the celebrities fought to be the center of atttention. Constantly interrupting each other for camera time.the Newlywed Game became the same thing.too bad . Originally I would have given this show a 4. but not for the later ones in the 70s.the show just became gross.

This is the funniest game show ever to hit the air waves! Gene Rayburn was great as it's host and the panelists were hilarious! But I have to say that it wasn't the same once they got that star wheel and then Richard Dawson left. The later versions didn't even compare with the '70's version.
