In a great green room, tucked away in bed, is a little bunny. "Goodnight room, goodnight moon." ...

Beautiful story and a favorite of children everywhere. I know I was afraid of the dark and children that I have worked with that share the same fears love this book as it makes them feel more at peace. Teaches great words and utilizes the senses.

Perhaps I am of the wrong generation to appreciate this book, but I find it rather depressing. The illustrations remain stagnated in another era and the text is dull. We ended up donating our copy to make room for better books on our shelves.

I have the sweetest memories of my (now grown) children sitting in my lap as we read this at bedtime. They each enjoyed trying to spot the mouse and the items mentioned on each page. Don't just softly read it to them but also let them interact with it by asking them, "Where's the mouse?", or "Where are the mittens?". This book is always included in my baby gifts to friends and family to get them off to a good start to a lifetime love of reading and to create sweet times together.

I haven't heard of one child who didn't absolutely love this book. Make this part of your bedtime routine--it does wonders! This book could easily get destroyed by little ones because of the thin pages, so make sure you keep it safe. Kids are captivated by it--boy or girl!

My daughter is 20 months old, she has to take this book to bed with her EVERY night. We always read it before bed, at night or at nap time. Its become our favorite story, hands down. I highly recommend this book, i loved it as a child myself and I've rediscovered it through her eyes again. The flow of the words, the illustrations, even the way in which the room becomes darker and darker from page to page... it all prepares your little one for a good nights rest. It leaves you with such a warm calm feeling. On the last page, Sophie always points out that the "bunny seepin' ..sssshhh ni nite." Your child's bedtime story collection isn't complete without this book!!!

Great for learning spanish since my son knows the english version so well. It is identical but in spanish.

Look, this book is a classic in its original English version. Though the Spanish translation is not deficient, it just does not have the same charm that the rhymes have in the original. Get this book in English, and choose books translated into Spanish whose text are not central to their enjoyment (e.g., Buenas noches, Gorila), or choose books originally written by Spanish language authors. Este libro es un clásico en su idioma original: el inglés. Aunque la traducción al español sea excelente, no está a la altura del lenguaje de las rimas en inglés. Aconsejo que compres este libro en inglés, y que compres libros traducidos al español que no dependan tanto del texto (e.g., Buenas noches, Gorila); o, compre libros escritos por hispanohablantes.

I was so excited to find Goodnight Moon in Spanish, as the English version was a favorite of my siblings 20 years ago, and my 15 month old son today. We have dozens of Spanish translations of English books, some of which work better than others. I had hoped this one would at least be okay, but for me, it seems very awkward and loses the charm of the original; and my son will not listen to even a page read in Spanish. Others have commented that the book keeps the rhythm of the Spanish language, but I couldn't disagree more. I am hesitant to simply blame the translator--with such simple images, I think there is only so much a translator can do to preserve the feeling of the original, and perhaps this book just didn't lend itself. All the charming rhymes seem to be lost, without being replaced, and so the repetition that is so soothing, even to babies, just isn't there. In addition, the lines themselves feel so much longer in Spanish, as well, and my son, who adores the English, gets very impatient for the page to be turned. Let me just provide a couple examples. From the first page to the second: English: In the great green ROOM, there was a telephone, a red balLOON, and a picture of...the cow jumping over the MOON. Okay, maybe "room" is a stretch there, but there is a rhythm to that rhyme. Spanish: En la gran habitacion verde, hay un telefono, un globo rojo y un cuadro...de una vaquita que salta sobre la Luna. Some other pages are slightly better: English: 2 little kittens and a pair of mittens Spanish: Dos gatitos juguetones, dos caletines y dos mitones But followed by: English: ...comb and a BRUSH and a bowl full of MUSH, and a quiet old lady who was whispering HUSH Spanish: ...cepillo y un gran peine y papilla en un tazon, y una amable viejecita que teje muy calladita. So is there some rhythm in the Spanish translation? Sure. But does it even approximate the English? No, I don't think so. Of course translations are not going to be perfect, but we own many Spanish texts [translated from English] that are virtually as good as (or even occasionally better than) the original. The awkwardness of this translation seems to present a bad example of the beauty and flow of Spanish, and unless reading the English version is not a possibility, I really don't recommend this book in Spanish--especially not with a baby or toddler. An older, school age child who wants to learn the Spanish vocabulary would, I think, be much more likely to enjoy this book (thus the 2 stars instead of 1). Note for reference: Some board books we have enjoyed in Spanish include "Donde esta el ombliguito" by Karen Katz, and all the "Este no es mi..." books (Este no es mi dragon being a favorite among favorites, though, to be fair, some of the word choices are a bit odd, but that doesn't affect the overall flow of the book).

I purchased this book for my children so they can learn the language. They are really enjoying it and learning it fast because we have the English version. I think it would be a great start for adults who want to learn Spanish.

When my youngest child was around one, my sister-in-law gave her this very adorable little book. The book turned out to be one of her favorites as the board book finally fell apart from being read to death. She loved the colorful pictures and the cute story of the rabbits nighttime rituals. This was a great addition to her library.

I haven't read "Goodnight Moon" as a child--I only flipped through it after watching the Simpsons (and, yeah, the Christopher Walken thing was hilarious, I couldn't get that out of my mind when reading it), but I can see where this would be a good children's book. Very simple sentence structure for young children, very bright and basic colors for the illustrations, and very clear in word-image identification (like, having a picture of that object by the one phrase on the page that says "goodnight <insert object here>" to help children learn objects. I can see this as one of those books that are one of the first that a child can read on their own.

This is a n=must have book from age 0 and up. I started reading this book to my son everynight. It really makes them sleepy. Check out the movie too!

This was my nephew's favorite at two years old. It is a great book to read to a child at bedtime - very soothing, and the illustrations are great.

The tone of Goodnight Moon is perfect for very little children. Its soothing feeling can relax nearly anyone. A great spin was put on it in the Simpsons when Christopher Walken read his version of Goodnight Moon.

The most peaceful book. The illustrations are so... relaxing.

When I was a little baby, I raed Goodnight Moon over and over again. I would always be interested in everything that you would find in the background, and was astonished every time once I knew what was going on, which took me a while, because I wasn't a pure genuis.

The first time I opened up Moon, my daughter was having a hard time going to sleep, and we said good night to everything in the room. She was two at the time, she is now six and we still love reading the book, the only problem is I know the book by heart...

It is a bedtime staple. What a great way to establish a routine for bedtime. The rythym of the book is magical.
newcomr 12/12/2000
This book appeals to many children and the way they think. It reinforces identity and the names of objects in the home as the little rabbit participates in his bedtime ritual. Another dogeared favorite.

I love the rhythm of reading this bedtime story. Then it's nice to say goodnight to many of the objects in my child's room.

This is an old fave. This is one of the best books you can ever collect. You will see you'll be reading it many times in a row.

This is a charmingly written book for the kindergarden years and younger. It is an excellent book for bedtime. The illustrations are bold and colorful and the language is simple and understandable.

Goodnight Moon is one of the loveliest books I have ever read. It's a comforting treatment of relationships and space. I have seven children ages three through twenty-six. My 3, 4, 8, 10, and 15 year-olds have all enjoyed a bedtime story of Goodnight Moon. It is a carefully and well written book. The pictures are lovely. It conveys a sense of peace and well being to children in this hurried world.

This is a really sweet book and it is good for toddlers. As kids get older, they seem to like more substance but it is a really cute idea.
