Don't let the anger induced negativity from her daughter's (B.D. Hyman) book be a majority factor in your opinion of Bette Davis. B.D. claims that her mother lived in a fantasy world of her own design, well thats exactly what she herself has done with her own take on Christianity and fear tactics of the end time. Mrs. Hyman claims to talk to God on a regular basis and says she knows so much that if she were to tell a person whom isnt as educated in the Word like her they would think she is crazy...she certainly isn't off to a good start there. She also pronounces God has called her to teach God's starving lambs, I seem to remember Jesus saying in Matthew 23:8-10 "But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren...And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ." Sure thats God your talking to there B.D.? Did Jesus tell you to write a book of fiction, defacing mother with anger and resentment to get a quick lump sum of money b/c she was going to die soon and neither you nor your husband wanted to get a real job and actually work for money?

A classic. Arlene almost always guessed right. I agree that the mystery guests were the most interesting.

Very good for the decade it started in. Classic celebrities and fun mystery guests.

Yes! Sometimes we get treated to reruns still. The panel was wonderful: Arlene Francis, Bennett Cerf, and the occasional people who filled in like Betty White or Peggy Cass. Loved the mystery guests!!

One of the highlights for me as a child growing up in the 1960's was my mother waking me up at 10:00 Sunday nights to watch "Candid Camera" and "What's My Line?" I've always enjoyed "What's My Line?" It was like looking in on a swanky Park Avenue cocktail party, with all the guests dressed to the nines and amusing themselves (and us) with a fun parlor game. Nothing on television today comes within a hundred miles of "What's My Line?" The intelligence, the urbanity, the sophistication, it is so needed today. With the exception of one or two no one comes close to John Daly's class. They're nothing but blow dried hair and blow dried minds. Thanks to Bennett Cerf, I have a lifelong love of puns that continues unabated. I'm still chuckling over his pun when he discovered Mystery Guest Fabian's last name is Forte. (In case you missed it on the show a few nights ago, Bennett said "Life begins at Forte." John Daly was stunned into silence...unusual for him.) Arlene Francis, I've had a crush on her since I was five and it continues unabated. I know a lot of folks considered Dorothy Kilgallen "the woman you love to hate," but I always liked her sometimes aggressive style of questioning. It showed she actually cared about the show. Very sorely missed, and yet I'm grateful I can watch it on GSN before I go to be at night...since I live in the West Coast it's on at 12:30 am.

Now this is classic TV. Even the syndicated version from 69-75 was good. The original show had a certain charm and class that is sorely lacking from television today. You won't see gentlemen like Bennett Cerf or John Daly anymore.

It is comforting to revisit a time when television could be smart, fun, and successful. Where is the modern equivalent to What's My Line??

This was without doubt the classiest game show ever aired on television. I love the sophisticated wit of the panel, especially the slightly risque Arlene Francis. I PVR the reruns of this show on a regular basis and just love the feel of it. It was the combined talents of John Daly, Arlene Francis, Dorothy Kilgallen and Bennett Cerf (my least favorite panelist) that made the show work. Historically, the show is very interesting. Currently airing episodes from the early to mid-sixties, I've recently seen contestants including the nanny to John and Caroline Kennedy, the secretary to Lyndon Johnson and Beatles' promoter/manager Brian Epstein. Celebrity guests have recently included Joan Crawford (fresh off the set of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?), Mickey Rooney and Bette Davis. It makes me nostalgic for an era before my time. I don't ever want to see the more recent color episodes (with Soupy Sales for God's sake!), I think it would destroy the magic.

Love those old panel shows. Forget the prizes, it's the play. Whether it's "What's My Line?" or "I've Got A Secret" or "To Tell The Truth" these shows have smarts. Give them a try.

I don't care for this at all.

Classic nostalgia! And a neat panel to boot. the late Arlene Francis, Bennett Cerf and the host John Daly were classy celebrities.
