The kitten I recently acquired comes from a mama who's already had 6-7 litters. People don't realize it but this is cruel. She lets her animals run outside and sometimes can't find any of them for days. She doesn't always feed them and claims she can't afford to. Understandable. She has 4 kids, 2 dogs, and God knows how many cats and lives on one income. Most of the time they aren't even home... the animals or the children. One of the kittens from this same litter died when the kids kept squirting flea spray in it's mouth and nose. Thank God I wasn't there. Another one is blind in one eye from lack of medical attention when it had an ordinary cold. We have two different animal shelters in this city. Both are filled to the hilt. I could tell you even more horrific stories of animal cruelty but would not have space here let alone want to take up your time. I have a whole list of reasons why I appreciate the SPCA. The fact is that they are overwhelmed. They can't take care of all the pets that people get and then decide they don't want when it's no longer a cute little kitten or puppy. When I contacted them they told me that unless the animals were a threat to the community there really wasn't much they could do. I'm not blaming them. Domestic animals are precious and should be treated well by pet owners or they just shouldn't have them.

One of the best organizations out there. This org. is so much more beneficial to animals than PETA; there is a difference between being deliberately cruel to an animal and raising others for meat.

So much cruelty goes on to animals around the world that I'm sure they see some really aweful things. Even though I'm a meat eater I would hope that they prevent at much cruelty to farmed animals as peoples pets but I'm not sure.

SPCA kills animals entrusted in their care if the poor creature is sitting in a shelter for too long. If you ever find a stray, sick, old or injured animal, take it to your local Humane Society instead.

The cause of SPCA is most definately a cause worth fighting for. Cruelty to animals is cruelty to humanity. However, sometimes, this group can get a bit out of hand- i.e. calling the people in this country who eat meat abusers of animals. Meat is necessary for the human body to survive. I do not consider following nature to be cruelty to animals. However, beating, starving, neglecting and just plain torturing animals has nothing to do with nature.

Wonderful organization. I'm completely against any kind of cruelty to animals. They haven't always had a choice when it comes to some of the sick things people have had the gall to do to them. Now, I'm not a vegetarian. I certainly know where all that meat comes from, but when it comes to starving, beating and neglecting animals, it needs to be stopped.

I love animals and any organization that's sole purpose is to protect them is okay with me. Anybody who abuses animals should have their butts kicked. There is no intelligent, logical reason for beating your dog or cat, or not feeding your horse. People who abuse animals are truly evil.

I am totally against cruelty to animals. But I'm not rating the concept of not being cruel to animals, I'm rating a specific organization. And that organization is weird in a lot of ways. A lot of you who say you totally support them might be surprised. They may consider you a traitor for some of the things you do in your daily life that you don't even think of as being cruel to amimals.

I am glad that the SPCA is around for the animals. they need to have a group that looks out for them. It is so sickening to me when someone gets a dog or cat and then decides they do not feel like taking care of them.Animals need humans to take care of them. They should not be expected to fend for themselves.it is so sad to hear of a dog who has been chained out in the yard, forgotten, starving and cold. Or to see abadoned animals on the streets, looking for food and shelter.People who abuse and neglect their pets deserve to be punished. You better believe if I witness an animal being abused or neglected I would not hesitate to report the offenders to the SPCA.

“I love animals, hate humans. Therefore I love this organization” and 7 people to date have voted this as a helpful comment??? Somebody stoke up the fire it’s a bit chilly in here. As human beings we have been given the job of caretakers of this planet and I believe we have a moral obligation to make sure the creatures we share it with are as well cared for as possible. I personally have always enjoyed the company of animals anyway so I have no problem with that obligation – I just don’t carry it to the psychotic extent of putting animals above human beings. Still, we need to remember that, if we destroy the natural habitats of the animals, we all suffer. THEREFORE, I support the efforts of this organization.

I do not and will never condone the outright cruelty to animals. I do though firmly believe that God gave us animals and plants to use as tools to sustain life through, health, food, and even shelter. If a mouse dies in the efforts to cure cancer, or a cow dies so I can eat, then these are tools to sustain life. Certainly, animals have rights, but not equal to humans and certainly not higher than humans. God himself has used animals to spare human life for thousands of years. He gave Abraham the ram to sacrifice in place of his own son. If He intended us to be vegetarians, He would have told Adam and Eve to not eat from the tree or eat any of the animals. He did intend us to use His provisions with great care, conservation, and yes ethics. This is much different though than the fanatical views of both PETA and SPCA. Though their core motives of animal protection seem to be correct, I can’t deal with their constant screeching, protesting and fanatical actions in areas that could actually jeopardize our abilities to find important life changing cures for disease or even my basic rights to, fish, hunt, and eat meat. I Had a wonderfully delicious piece of grilled Mahi Mahi last night, my wife had a wonderful grilled chicken breast and my son enjoyed a nice sirloin steak. We thanked God for His provisions then set about to eat every single bite without once feeling as if we had violated a fish, bird, or cows rights. With proper conservation, respect for nature and our resources we plan to enjoy more of it for many years to come.
