Megadeth are an excellent thrash-lite type of band.Their early works were outstanding but in recent years their quality has declined greatly.

I like some of their stuff but they are all over the place. Some of it is great and some of it blows.

Megadeth ruled thrash metal all the way up into "Youthanasia", but people didn't seem to like them as much after that, and they probably will never be looked upon as that good anymore, but i like em' alot. I think everyone of their albums had good songs on it, and now "United Abominations" is one of my favorite albums of all time. So i say "Long live the Deth'."

The band's early work was some of the best Thrash Metal ever made.

  The Megadeth material is interesting and influential music. There are few two guitar bands that play with the precision of Megadeth. The rythym section is almost an interchangeable part, but the co-guitarist is always handpicked by Mustaine. Ellefson was a good bassist though, it's hard to believe he is gone from the current line-up.

Lyrically, the Megadeth songs are fascinating. Mustaine is a capable writer, one part poignant, another irreverant and a good storyteller too. Compositionally, these songs rival classical music for intricacy. The riffs hit, and the speeds can be mindboggling.

The vocals of Mustaine are an interesting study too. He is a very theatrical singer, not quite Genesis era Peter Gabriel or Freddie Mercury of Queen, but theatrical. I hear the potential for good clean singing in Mustaine's voice, but that is not what the thrash genre was about.

The only bad studio album is RISK. Some of my favorite songs include: Sweating Bullets, A Tout Le Monde, Trust, Wake Up Dead, Peace Sells, and Hangar 18. Anyone who wants to understand the progression of metal, and the history of the thrash sub-genre should listen to some Megadeth material.

The best and most talented metal band on the planet. Dave Mustaine, Marty Friedman and Nick Menza are geniuses. They are easily the best of the four main thrash bands, and they own Metallica so hard it's not even funny. They have a stack of hits, with Hangar 18 and She-Wolf as the icing...

I won't argue if metallica is better tahn megadeth or vice versa . But I'm sure this band kick those greenday , falloutboy , LP ... ass .

Metallica has nothing on Megadeth. Dave Mustaine is way better than a lot of lead guitarists including kirk hammett. His ability to write those awesome riffs is incredible

you want simplistic, go with Metallica, you want someone who can write intelligently, go with Megadeth.

I've recently listened to the 3 albums I HAD and like most metal albums, they sound pretty dated and are really just for teenage boys.

Megadeth is the second most important "Thrash Metal" band behind Metallica. Their music is great, even though Dave's vocals are nothing special. They have had too many line-up changes over the years, but have remained a force in the metal genre because of Dave Mustaine. I think Kirk Hammet is one of the greatest guitar players of all time, but who knows what Metallica would have sounded like if Dave was not such a jerk when he got drunk and got booted from Metallica.

Looking at these ratings, there is no way that Megadeth is averaging a 2.97 and Metallica a 2.91.  Megadeth is not better than Metallica.  That being said, I do really like Megadeth.  Every album was good except for Risk, and The World Needs A Hero.  Cryptic Writings showed some of the old stuff in it.  They definately developed the "speed metal" and incorporated it into the metal scene in the mid 80s.  Though they were never as big or good as Metallica (who is) they were a big part of metal.

Megadeth makes up part of the original thrash foursome(megadeth;slayer;exodus;metallica) from which all todays watered down ----thrash is derrived from and as such they deserve the recognition they get from clued up metalheads. One of my favorite bands ever! However imo Metallica is the superior band. I've noticed people saying Dave Mustaine wrote most of the stuff on Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning. Wrong. Dave only wrote the solos on four of the songs on Kill Em All and maybe a riff or two. He only wrote the solos for 2 songs on RtL. Dave is an incredible musician, but his vocals, mainly on the Countdown album, are sometimes annoying. Also, Kirk Hammett is does better solos than Mustaine, not Friedman though, Friedman is a god! Also, Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning beat any Megadeth album. Rust in Piece barely beats Justice. Also Megadeth's 90's albums aren't as great as Metallica's 90's albums. Metallica>Megadeth

A very good traditional thrash metal band (although extrememly underrated and bashed a lot).

Despite all the bashing, this band will always shine through. Mustaine can whine his ass off like the snarly-kitten-voiced goon he is about Kerry King or whoever (and he's right, King sucks ass), but his music and Megadeth's music will always carry them high above the masses. TSHF is very underrated, and is their best for a long time.

Dave Mustaine is one of the most talented musicians in the metal world and beyond! Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman produced the some of the most technically structured songs I have ever heard. Rust in Peace is musical precision. The guitar work on that album alone may never be matched. Seeing them play it live in perfect harmony is even more impressive! F***ING AMAZING!!!!!!!!

I give 5 stars to up to 'Rust in peace', itself one of the 5 best metal albums ever IMO. But from 'Countdown..' the songs lost their edge and interest. Commercialism won out and Megadeth went faster downhill than Metallica.

Megadeth made good music, definitely. All my respect to Mustaine, I recognise his contribution in Metallica's Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning. He is an excellent composer, just listen to the complexity of songs such as Hangar 18 and Holy Wars. Absolutely. The only thing that doesn't totally convince me about this band is the quality of Dave's voice... I don't really like it... But he is better musically speaking than Kirk Hammett from Metallica and comparable to James Hetfield.

Megadeth is a fantastic metal band. They put metallica to shame. Hell most of the songs from the first 2 metallica albums were written by Mustaine. Even though Dave can be an asshole at times I love the music. Megadeth doesnt truly get the respect they deserve but true Megadeth fans could care less. The guitar layerings are excellent and the thunderous percussion rocks out. Oh and by the way Megadeth never sold out like many of the other bands of their time. Faster harder and more intense than most other metal bands and I am a proud owner of all Megadeths albums.

Megadeth is really underrated. I think Dave Mustaine is a phenomenal guitarist and songwriter. In terms of heavy metal, they kick Metallica's ass!

Speed metal icons. Just listen to songs like Tornado Of Souls, Holy Wars, My Last Words, etc. Truely great and crazy riffs.

One of the greatest metal acts in history. Dave Mustaine basically invented thrash and speed metal. After all, he was one of the founding members of Metallica (not to mention some of his songs are the most recgnized and favorite Metallica songs). Even though the line up has gone thrugh a few changes, Megadeth have created some of meal's most cherished albums :namely "Klling Is My Business....And Business Is Good," "Peace Sells...But Who's Biying," and "Rust In Peace." Megadeth deserves a lot of cedit and then some.

I love Mega deth! I think they are 5 times better than Metallica.

Megadeth are one of the best metal bands ever. Dave Mustaine's song writing skills have kept them going and the new album proves there back on form and no Trendy band e.g (Slipknot, Limp Bizkit) is gonna stop them.
