I think wharton is a Good company but there local mover's especially Olymia Moving and storage were rude and I had a few thing's taken....... I tried to resolve the issue and the owner would not compensate me. I did a little digging and found they have alot of workers on drugs because they don't drug test the movers. so I advise you yo use Charlesriver's Movers if you are moving locally. If long distance Wheaton is a top company to work with all aroun it's just the company they use for a shuttle and storage at Olympia the warehouse is full of dirt and moths as well...........

WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY !!!
Although their reps assure you the best move....don't count on it. It was a disaster, their actual moving employees are terrible. They broke countless items, delivered only half the load on the scheduled date, rescheduled the rest of the load on a date we had already scheduled for our business trips, etc - etc. Bottom line, end result was "MUCH DAMAGED & BROKEN" - do not use these people...just not worth it !!!

I had a horrible experience with this company. They lost items, damaged our floor (admitted to me they did, and then denied it when I asked for them to fix it) and they lied about the cost. Very poorly run company; I would not recommend them to anyone!

Wheaton World Wide Moving 1

I recently moved from North Carolina to Arkansas. I used Wheaton because they assured me that even though they were more expensive than others, they took extra steps to assure a good and stress free move. They stated that all items were handled as if they were owned by the company and that their employees were the best. While that may be, my experience was a mess from the get go. When I contracted with them, we agreed on a move date of October 3rd. In the contract, they wrote October 1st but the representative stated that was just a ball park and assured me that delivery would NOT be prior to the 3rd. I questioned this closely because I was working a last shift in the ED in NC the night of September 31 and obviously would not be able to take delivery on the 1st in Arkansas. I was again assured that delivery would not be until the 3rd at the earliest and the eight at the latest. So of course, they delivered on the first. I was called on September 31, while at work and told that I would either have to pay storage fees while the driver waited to deliver my goods or I would have to take delivery on the first of October. The driver stated that his wife was pregnant and that he was going to be back in North Carolina on the 2nd even if he had to dump my things in the front yard of the home I was moving into.

After I arrived in Arkansas and began sorting through my goods that the driver had just dropped at my new rental, I discovered that there were items missing. I contacted Mather Brothers (the Wheaton contractor) and was told to file a claim. I did and they denied that claim because the driver stated that the truck was empty when he left Arkansas. Not having been able to be present when the items were delivered, I have no way of knowing if this is a true statement by the driver. Obviously, I am unhappy with my experience with Wheaton/Mather Brothers. The items that were missing were in excess of $200. Since that time I've discovered that there are a few more items missing. I hope that this critique will help others to avoid the disappointment and expense that I incurred.

In 24 yrs. of moves - 1st time with Wheaton. Was the worst move that I have ever experienced. Packers broke things, loaders slashed leather couch. Had 2 loads - calculated wrong. Bought full replacement coverage - Wheaton will not pay claim. Stay away from these guys.

Moved from the Wash DC area to Florida. 3 move in 12 years. Have used Mayflower twice before. I received bids from Mayflower, Bekins, and Wheaton. Wheaton's bid was in the middle. Overall, this was a good move, nothing missing or broken. However, I did learn a few things new this time around and I would offer advice to anyone preparing to move. This move could have been much worse, but being actively involved during the entire process was the key to success. 1. Price was negotiated down, about 8%. DOn't let them tell you they can't give you a better price. But, don't believe you will get "something for nothing". If the price is too low, something is wrong (or too high, probably a poor estimate). 2. Watch out for the Internet movers -- regulations have changed and everyone with a truck is moving in. 3. Key is the driver. Ask for the best, plan early and push for a good driver. 4. Use their packers - it is worth it!!! 5. Ask about "cross loading". I have not run across this in my previous moves. Apparently it happens all the time?? Read on: Anyway, what got me suspicious was when the truck came to load, it was a large truck, but it had the local company name on it and the tractor had VA plates. I greeted the driver and mover help. I asked the driver a few general questions, and then, something like "So, all day to load (it was a Friday), will you be relaxing over the weekend before you head south to Florida?" The answer was not what I wanted to hear; "Oh, I am a local driver. We will load you belongings, take them back to our moving warehouse, unload and wait for the NATIONAL DRIVER to arrive -- we will then load his trailer and he (someone else) will drive down to Florida." I thanked him, and told him to wait before proceeding any further -- the other guys had started to move things out on the driveway. Everybody stopped. Long story short and two hours later, calls were made to the local agent rep and to Wheaton national HQ. Wow -- what I heard was amazing and, as mentioned earlier, common. However, I wanted no part of this. I wanted my "stuff" loaded -- once -- and then driven down to unloaded -- once --. Also, because of this scenario, they informed me that my "gauranteed delivery window (3 days) would be missed, but they would put us up in a hotel -- again, wrong answer. They (both local agent and national guy) kept telling me this was in the contract, yada/yada/yada..... However, I insisted and asked calmly (key is to not get upset in this market as everyone is apparantly an ***hole), "When did you know this?" Reply: "week ago". Me: "Why am I hearing of this now (and I did speak to the agent about making sure we had a good driver, national type, etc.)? Them: Silience. Battle 1 completed, victory. Again, stayed calm, professional. Battle plan for next move -- need to get them to somehow load this trailer and not unload/reload for another driver. So, I asked, how can we avoid this "cross load -- as you mentioned, you don't like it either as it is labor intensive?" I suggested to waive my delivery dates by a few days if they could find the driver, have the local agent allow his trailer to be used. Thier move: Silience. Then, push back -- lots of logistical issues, costs, etc. I honed in on the costs as I felt the cross ship was more of on issue for them too. "What costs". They went on to explain driver would drop trailer in VA, pick up my loaded trailer, drive down to FL and then would have to come back. Hmm, I thought $500 in fuel (high estimate, 10/12 hour drive). I offered an extra $250 to help defer costs. Them: Silience, them "I have to talk to my manager (both) -- can we call you back? I agreed. They called back in about 30 minutes and agreed, but asked if I would be a reference (smart on their part I thought). I agreed. So, no cross loading, load would come one day late. I wrote a letter to them a couple of weeks after the move (and since have talked to 2 potential Wheaton clients). I think this was worth my time and $250 bucks. 6. Take care of the help and driver. Lay ground rules. Offer drinks -- buy them all lunch!!! It is worth it!!! 7. Be there, on both ends. Ask about the inventory approach. Good luck!!!!

We just completed a move to Istanbul Turkey with Wheaton. it was a horrid experience. We were misquoted for the door to door service. Experienced nearly $5,000 in cost overruns, incredible dammage to the furniture and lost items that were never received. The best part of the experience was the caviler attitude of Bud Cardone the Sr. VP in basically saying too bad! Now we are engaged in a wonderful experience attempting to gain compensation with the insurance carrier that is none to interested in helping. What an awful experience and one that should be avoided at all cost to anyone contemplating Wheaton ans their mover. The shame is that the web site leads one to believe that this company is a favored, professional company. Nothing is further from the truth!

Moved from Colorado to California and have horror stories--They couldn't find a driver, or tell me when my van would arrive. When they finally could tell me it was arriving the next day, they called two hours later and said it was all a mistake, and they still didn't have a driver......There were surprise charges and damaged furniture and the movers had their girlfriends and toddlers with them! The movers were all fine, the disorganization and mis/lack of communication within Wheaton were unbelievable. Good Housekeeping take away the seal!

I moved from Queens, New York to Central NJ and I didn't have a problem with these movers. There were only 2 movers who came, and I thought they were polite. I was moving out of my parents house so I didn't reallyhave any big furniture...mostly instruments (Violins, stage pianos), closets of things, etc. They came put everything in boxes and my closets into wardrobe boxes and them we met up again at my new place in NJ. I would say that the largest thing they moved for me was a metal filing that one of the movers just picked up with his bare hands, an architect's desk, my cheap bike. But I guess they're built/trained to do that type of thing. Anyway, a CD clock that I had broke and wouldn't play CDs anymore. I think there was a 6 month time span where you could report broken items. I did and they found a comparable item and reimbursed me a reasonable price. I didn't have a horrible experience with them, but then again maybe moving larger items is a different story. The whole packing and moving took only a few hours.

This is a horrible company. I recently moved from NE to VA. Wheaton said an average deliver was between 7 - 11 days, but since it was the slow season it should be there close to 7. 16 days later my belongings finally arrived. I constantly had to call the company to get updates as to where my belongings were and the could never give me a straight answer. After calling customer service to get a better idea of why this was happening, I was told there was nothing they could do for me and I would just have to sit and wait. After everything did finally show up, I come to find out from the driver that my belongings sat on the trunk from the city I moved from for two weeks before they decided to deliver. It was great to hear that I was being lied to the entire time by a corporation that survives on customer service. I would defiantly recommend paying a few extra dollars to go with a different mover. Hopefully that one won't flat out lie.

My wife and I recently moved from New York to Montana. We didn't choose Wheaton; instead we chose their local affiliate in White Plains, NY (Gold Service Movers), based on a previous positive experience. Gold quoted us a 60% discount, which the Wheaton driver said isn't terribly unusual in such a competitive industry. Our Wheaton driver was terrific. He was organized, professional, and diligent. Our drop-off in Montana was several days ahead of schedule (with a day's notice). None of our items were damaged. The total invoice was over $1,000 less than the estimate.
