I find DS writing extremely simplistic and boring but thought I'd see what she could make of a serious topic. Wow, is she ever self-absorbed! She has no insight into her son's illness and her contributions to it. It's no wonder he was suicidal!

This is a book about Danielle's son, Nick. His internal struggles and every day challenges with bi-polar disorder. Danielle's struggles with finding him the right doctors and eventually medication for him. The unconditional love and unending sacrifices she made for Nick are just outstanding. The pain, the emotional roller coaster she went through was so heartrending it brought tears to my eyes as I read her story about her son. I couldn't believe all the times the doctor's were 'out of town'. The hospitals Nick was put in were just mind-boggling. My heart goes out to Danielle and her family.

Danielle Steel is known for her works of fiction, but in this one (the first Steel book I have admittedly read) she shares a great deal of personal history. Her son suffers from bipolar disorder and causes much heartache in her life. Yet she loves him unconditionally. A terrific love letter from a mother to her son...

A simple review for a simply amazing book. 10 years ago it shook my emotional core, and it did the same again this read.

The notoriously private Danielle Steel opens up her entire life to readers in this emotional and moving true story about her son Nick, who struggled his entire life with mental illness. I highly recommend this book for any mother who has a child with a mental illness.
