Shopping isn't the only place a person runs into rude people.

While this does cause some agitation for us, we must understand where some of the other shoppers are coming from. Shopping can make a person downright crabby. I'd cut them a little slack. They are probably just as frustrated as I am.

You're going to run across the occasional rudeness all year long, but as some have mentioned in previous posts, they seem to be far more rude during the holidays.

I was at Wal-Mart just yesterday and ran across a great example of this. Now we'll set this up for you: cashier shortage, mid-day rush, long line of people ahead and behind us, and a cranky cashier who is both sick and in need of a break she hadn't been given on time. Add in the fact that said cashier has been waiting for more bags for an hour and CSM's had passed her at least 10 times while *I* was standing there, not to mention how many times they'd done so in advance of my arrival. Cashier informs the customers behind me, that her break is coming up and that she will have no bags after our cart; she's moving to another register so they will need to find another line. She was polite in her initial request to the line, in my opinion...but...the customer directly behind me starts in on her, telling her, "I've been here for 10 minutes and I won't go to another line; you're GOING to ring up my f'ing stuff!" ON and on for at least 5 more minutes about how the cashier needs an attitude adjustment and how she'll just leave her cart full on the floor of the line and leave, until finally the cashier can't hold her tongue anymore and they're both bitching back and forth about rudeness of the other, while trying to get other customers in line to agree to whom is right in said situation. My aunt and I are in the middle between the cashier and the woman behind us, who now has the entire line backing her up because she claims to be paralyzed on one side of her body from a car accident, though aside from her use of the in-store electric cart, seemed to have complete control of both sides of her anatomy.

Needless to say, my aunt and I practically darted from the store within seconds of money transfer, because neither of us had much patience to listen to either of the women much more without saying something to BOTH of them about the way they handled each other.

at this time of year i am really fighting to bite my tongue. I know it is the Christmas shopping season and everyone is out buying all those wishes on the list. for some reason and maybe it is just me. but people are ruder, and even mean this year. What is it? I have had at least a few times when I am trying to check out and going as fast as I can. i get stuck with the nasty impatient person behind me who seems to think if they start piling their belongings on the conveyer belt and shoving my stuff upwards. then pushing their cart in my back all with an icy glare. they seem to think this will makethings go faster. never mind another customer is ahead of me and I am waiting for them to check out. apparently they are in a hurry and we are holding them up on purpose. so far this has been one of the nastiest years i have seen with rude, impatient customers who think they can take their bad mood out on others. Hey I wait too. you are no more important than me. this weekend i have seen more pissed off hate the world looks on more customers than ever. no wonder more people do their shopping online. dealing with the public is threatening to be dangerous.I will be glad to be done with my shopping this year. i have seen some of the nastiest rudest customers ever. what ever happened to excuse, me and god forbid, a smile? UPDATE: this includes irate rude customers in cars.I got one of those at the gas station yesterday. I pulled into a pump that I was required to PAY FIRST{just love those} i had to use the pump in the back since there was already a truck in the front pump. i went in waited in line behind four other customers. paid for my gas came back out to my car. the truck in head was gone and there was young woman behind me now. I picked up the nozzle and started to pump the gas. well she threw a hissy fit.backed up went over to another pump hollering all the time. glaring toward me. a few seconds an elderly man came up to my pump and stood at started staring at me and the pump. went back and said something to her. obviously about me. still while she pissing and moaning me pumping my gas. she obviously thought i had already pumped and would leave as soon as i came out. well sooorrrrrryyyyyy!how dare me inconvenience her. never mind i had no choice to pay for the gas ahead of time. I was wondering if she was going to come over to me. she was pissed enough. all i can think is the old man may have told her i had a pump that said pay first.heck i do not like waiting in line either but lighten up. not worth a tantrum.!!!!

Where I work we really do try and be as courteous as we can and most often it's the customers who are rude. It's really 50/50. YES, we do work for them but we're often more busy than they are because we're the ones who are running around trying to do things for other customers, especially during the holiday season.

Some are, but I normally kill them with my smile.

Usually I have to bite my tounge when I'm in this situation because I tend to be on the rude end- but only when I have the slowest group of people right in front of me, who insist on taking up the entire floor, ten minutes before the mall closes.

True.. but no more so than at the post office or the Registry (DMV). I ignore them.
