Where were all these informative postings when I bought my Kia Sedona in 2002! I was caught up by the very high safety rating as I used the car to carpool my daughter and several friends to school. Well, don't be fooled! The car has 114,000 miles on it (lived much longer than many of the postings on this site) and I'm told now the engine is shot. Thrown a rod, as many others have said. I've had constant alignment problems w/ it, has pulled to the right since I bought the car. No one could get it to hold the alignment, as is mentioned in another posting. Run, don't walk, away from the Kia Sedona!

I own 2 KIA's I bought them new and have had no problems with them, for the money they are great. I have a 2004 Optima EX, V6 and the 2005 Sedona EX. I was a die hard Dodge Grand Caravan buyer, until my last one a 1996 ES. It allways had something wrong with it and Dodge did not stand behind this van at all. 3 transmissions in the first 2 years, electrical problems would come and go, leaving us locked out of the van in 115 degree heat in NV for over 4 hours, with a 2 year old child. I finally broke the window out to get into it (the power door locks were stuck and would not let you use the key). One happy note the day I traded it off the dealer pulled out and someone ran a red light and T-boned it totaling it out (no one was hurt) bye bye crappy van.

I have a 2005 kia sedona that has been nothing but a headache since driving it of the lot with 15 miles on it. we have replaced all 4 tires 2 times because it won't hold the elignment. The o2 sensor went out and now the engine is ruined they will not honor warranty because they said it was due to improper maintance. We have always had the oil changed. Kia doesn't honor that so called 100000 mile warrenty

My wife and I purchased a 2004 Sedona LX with 100 miles on it. Here is a bit of advice on any vehicle you buy. If you do your own oil & engine work you are taking a big risk. Mainly because you have no way of providing proper documentation on the vehicle of when and where it was fixed. Say you throw a rod, your vehicle is still under warrenty, but the dealership will not pay for it because you have no way of providing proof that you did not maintain your vehicle. See where I am getting at? That is the loop hole that every car maker has on you. Even though it costs more alway get the work done by a certified mechanic. I am not a mechanic and I do my own work, as long as its minor and will not affect my warrenty. I go to Walmart and get my oil done and rotation. I use a fram filter ( i dont care what kia says) and I use top grade oil. So far so good. Plus I have proof of every oil change as well. The only problem so far I have had is I need to order a new instrument cluster because my speedometer doesnt work and because of that my check engine light stays on. I currently have 30K on it and it has been a good van. Oh yeah, we did have to replace all 4 tires because they all had slow leaks in them. Otherwise my personal experience has been good with our Sedona. Hopefully the 06 will make up for the negative since they have re desinged it completely.

Last September my husband and i bought a Kia Sedona. We researched it..loved the safety ratings and the warranty. We went to a local dealer in Spartanburg, SC and test drove some of the 2005 models but they didn't have the package i wanted on the vehicle so after being told they didn't make that particular package with cloth seats, lo and behold i found one at another dealer. It was a 2004 but it oly had 47 miles on it and we were told the only real difference in the 04 and 05 was several thousand dollars in price. Needless to say we took the 04. I picked the van up 2 days later, my husband was out of town so i spoke with the service manager who assured me that the warranty was fabulous..anything that happened bring it back, they would fix it..it sounded like a car owners dream. Some where around the first week in June i went out and started the vehicle to run into town and the whole van shuddered uncontrollably and made the most horrible sound. I shut it off and called my husband who told me to call Kia and have it looked at. They were very sympathetic..sent out a truck to tow it in and told me they would be in touch. The next day the service manager calls and asks for service records on the van. I wasn't sure how to get them as my husband maintains all our cars. She informed me that i had to get them since it was likely an internal engine problem and Kia wouldn't approve anything, not even tearing the engine down to check until they had them. As it turns out Kia wanted us to pay for all costs to tear it down. This van had less than 15,000 miles on it..had an oil change in April and it was throwing a rod. We literally went through hell with Kia. Thye didn't like the fact that we used Castrol Synthetic motor oil, they don't recomend it..not did they like the fact that it had a Fram filter on it..they recomend their own. It took us over 2 months to get them to honor the warranty, they assured us that new cars don't throw rods and it must have been the way we maintained the vehicle. Yes they finally did honor it but they didn't want to..i was without my car for months..and that little thing where they rent you a car..didn't happen. Now we have to take our car to a dealer 30 minutes away to have a simple oil change done *and* you have to get all the Kia recomended checks every few thousand miles..which typically cost a few hundred dollars. It really galls me that they get away with it..its blackmail of a sort but otherwise they won't fix anything else that goes wrong. Kia rips off the very people keeping them in business, we'll never buy another ia product.

The Sedona is about where other minivans were in 1990. As usual, Korean automakers are woefully behind the times.

Top this!! We bought a BRAND NEW 2004 Kia Sedona on November 3, 2004!! It had 47 miles on it when we drove it off the lot. Seven days later, the transmission went out on it!! Incredible huh?? Well, just today, November 27, 2004, it broke down AGAIN!! The tow truck just came about 2 hours ago to tow it away for the 2nd time in 24 days!! I am so mad I could spit nails!! We also have a 1997 Escort (110,000 miles) and a '99 Silverado that we have NEVER had problems with!! I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone!!

I have a 2004 Sedona LX. The warranty (10/100,000 plus more)is great and the prices are as well - its better than buying a 30,000 Sienna. The quality level of the van is high as well. The drivers seat could be a little more comfortable. A very econonical van for a budget conscious family.

Worst warranty in the automobile business. I have a Kia Sedona 2002 with only 37,000 miles on it. It has slung a rod through the oil pan and they WILL NOT warrant it. They said lack of maintence on my part is the reason it happened. I have maintained my van. BUT, lets just say that I hadn't, there is no way that it should have slung a rod after only 37,000 miles....DO NOT BUY ANY KIA vehicles....

Its only worth a look for the price. If you need a minivan under $20k that wont last very long then get the Sedona.
