This book is phenomenal. You think you understand health? Not until you've read this. I wasn't crazy about the cover art. It looked a little Gothic to me... kind of like a book about faeries or crystals or something I'm not into. So even though I really love the Weston Price folks, and wanted to learn more, I ignored this book for a while. But once I started to read it I was astounded at all the ideas in it that I had never encountered anywhere else. Dr. Cowan's approach is so unique. And it works. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has been frustrated both with conventional/allopathic approaches and to some extent also with the array of alternative approaches out there. Dr. Cowan makes chronic disease--and healing it--make sense.

The Fourfold Path to Healing is the book that I have been waiting for for 30 years! I have always maintained that there was a better way to health than our present system of pills. Dietary advice from the government and popular media almost destroyed my health and that of my family. We went from healthy to chronically ill, obese, hypertensive and depressed. Just one week of partial implementation of the principles in this book has raised my energy level, reduced pain, started the process of weight loss and reduced blood pressure, and banished depression. It will take at least a year to achieve my goals, but by my 60th birthday I will be totally healthy and happy again. Thank you Dr. Cowan!

I am a student of Naturopathy and had to buy this book after checking it out of the library. Cowan is masterful in presenting a true wholistic healing approach. Having studied the work of many healing masters, I find that his work is solid and rational. I will use his book as a resource and as inspiration.

The book has a slow and steady pace to it. I found it a bit hard to get into. There are very detailed explanations on health and disease. Not every disease, but common ailments in our culture. It's the kind of book that is worth reading. You may not find everything you wanted, in the detail you want, such as do X,Y,Z and problem will be cured. But this book is definitely full of helpful advice and pointers in the right direction about what is truthful about health. In health, we must deal with so much false knowledge and information. Meanwhile Dr. Cowan's book is a great relief as it brings us close to the truth about health with accurate information so that we can take more responsibility for our health and have a road map of what we need to be healthy. I have enjoyed Nourishing Traditions, by Sally Fallon, so I bought Cowan's book b/c it is advertised as a "companion" to Fallon's book. Fallon's book is an objective assessment of the often misleading information out there about nutrition. Her book is clearly presented and backed by copious notes. I was hoping Cowan's book was equally objective and convincing. Well, the best chapter is the one written by Fallon! Cowan's book is weakened by his reliance on the theories of Rudolf Steiner, guru of "anthroposophy". Whatever contributions Steiner may have(or may not have) made to the field of education, his scientific theories are just goofy. Cowan bases his entire book on Steiner's four bodies or spheres of activity, which correspond to the four "kingdoms" or "elements" of body as forwarded by the medievalists 7 centuries ago. Okay, this stuff is for fairy tales! If the Steiner slant had been made clear on the back cover, I would not have purchased the book.
