ItemImageControversial Dutch film maker and columnist Theo Van Gogh was shot dead on November 1, 2004. Van Gogh was outspoken against what he called "religious fascism" and felt strongly that multicultural society could not work. He famously called the head of the European Arab League a "pimp for the Prophet."

Can't say that I was a huge fan of his world-view, but he should have been able to express it without getting shot for it.

I hate reading about stuff like this. A guy has strong opinions. The guy is not afraid to publish his opinions. Someone who doesn't agree decides to silence him. Life lost, voice lost. I don't know much about Theo Van Gogh, and it sounds like I wouldn't agree with his world view at all. But to shoot someone based on conflicting opinions, is barbaric. When I see RIA posters threaten bodily harm against people like Michael Moore (which has happened) or Ann Coulter (which I don't think has happened), it depresses me. How about this? Use your brain, listen to the views around you, decide what works for you. Don't be a thug. Later Theo, we hardly knew you.
