The networks may have stayed away from predicting the outcome based on early results, but they sure went for exit poll as indicators in a big way.

 | EschewObfuscation (71) 11/06/2004 | Maybe, as a result of these silly shenanigans, we'll begin to get better at counting votes and forecasting the mood of the people of an individual state. These guys, intentionally or incompetently, got it wrong all day. But, because the networks didn't report them, it had no real effect on the election. They should get better, or less partisan, about this because it's their job and they get paid for getting it right. If that's not possible, why do it? I feel the same way about the press. Why not just do your job? Right, fairly, non-partisan, like you contend you are? When you deny your incompetence, you are refusing to improve your performance.

 | LanceRoxas (41) 11/05/2004 | By far the biggest story of the night. You could see the exuberance on the faces of the Rathers, Ethridges, Williams, Jennings, Brokaws and the likes. I watched much of the night on FoxNews and could detect the sour countenance on Bill Kristol's face. But then as the night wore on and the exit numbers just weren't matching up to the raw vote you could see Juan Williams slink further down into his seat and interject less and less. Fred Barnes went from lugubrious to jubilent after Florida was called and the night turned for the better. The liberals looked like the Yankees after losing four straight to the BoSox- I couldn't have been happier.
