They were weenies in the extreme, which was actually annoying after awhile. They took an opposite extreme.

This should have been no surprise, given the 2000 election night predictions. It's about time the networks (as well as a lot of so-called progressive thinkers have figured out that you can't project outcomes, winners, results, or what have you, based on a fairly small sampling of a vote, or on incomplete or partial data. This time around, they hewed more closely to their charter, as it were, i.e., to report the facts rather than to begin to prophesy the future. Things really did work better this time - few, if any, surprises.

Lance, LOL. The network anchors are getting weary of the partisan activist accusation, and rightly so. They still refuse to acknowledge it (incredibly) but they are monumentally aware of the scrutiny they are under and the deluge of criticism they will receive for the slightest slip now, thanks to Dan Rather's most recent unarguably shameful and undeniable episode. The problem is not Rather, Jennings, Brokaw (TBone's excellent comment notwithstanding) but layers upon layers of groupthink and groupspeak fomenting up from producers and staffers who all seem to be homogenously liberal. The problem will exist until that purity is addressed. Fox will soon come under scrutiny for the same problem, in the other direction and that charge will begin to stick, as their ratings steadily rise. This is one area where the passion for diversity really applies.

Dan Rather is still counting votes himself in Ohio to make absolutely sure Bush won before he's going to make the call. But Im sure he'll rush right to the air if he receives a forged word document claiming Bush flew one the planes into the Trade Center- I mean you can't miss a story like that right?

after the disaster in 2000 a little caution was a good thing, but i thought i was going to be collecting social security by the time they called ohio and florida for bush/cheney.

It got to a point where some of the most obvious red and blue states weren't declared for their respective candidates until midnight!

Not shocking whatsoever, considering the fiasco in 2000.
