Long time announcer at the Illinois track. His backup is the crazy Kevin Mack who is the racing secretary or something. Kevin Mack's calls are great to here once or twice a year. They are so bad. But we are talking about Steve Cross... (Add picture)

Steve's worn-out, fuddy-duddy race calls are as hackneyed as his sense of fashion. The copy-cat phrase "Down the Stretch They Come" is a careless rip-off of racing's legend, Dave Johnson. Cross's lust for harness racing is a detriment to his thoroughbred calls; he would call harness full-time if he could, but the money's not in it. When his brother Jay Cross, a lackluster harness driver, takes the track, you can hear Steve secretly rooting for him. Every year, Steve Cross skirts his responsibilities to Hoosier Park by skipping off to Delaware County, Ohio, for the overrated, week-long Little Brown Jug harness series. There, he shares the microphone with the equally-terrible, Brut-aftershave-wearing, gaudy-jewelry-blinging, wanna-be-racing-pimp Roger Huston.

I like him. He is good for both thoroughbreds and harness.
