A blind mans race caller, simply the best ever, great feel for the entire race knows exactly when horse are finished and can spot a live horse before anybody..Tom Durkin never was in Trevors class,Durkins screaming and yelling in the lane is so false, and to listen to him at New york tracks is boring, and dull.

Trevor has seen better days, he was one of the best but as you seen on saturday(he made many omissions and bad insight calls) if you did not bet on favs. or in the top 3 in contention you were as lost as he was.he is no longer a top 4 professional caller, sorry but all greats get old and stale.

Is a great announcer,I listen to 1000's of races each yr, I mostly wager online so I listen to his calls-and they need to sprout wings to catch him-
OsagePony 07/28/2009
Twenty years ago, Trevor was hot. Two decades to cool is a good run in any profession as high profile as "fancy chart calling." That South African accent should have eroded after 20, so he's either on the phone with family or listening to dark continent radio to keep his edge. Nobody builds a race better to climax at crunch time. Few see a live horse, regardless of odds, rumbling in the back with promise deserving a mention, better than Trevor. Very few sort out a stretch better than Trevor, regardless of the celebrated gaffs engaged by others here. And then, your greatest strength is your greatest weakness--cliche phrases kill!Decades ago, the average race goer attended three times a meet. An announcer "needed" to do his deal to please those fans, 85% of the attendees on a given day. Today we sit in racebooks or watch TVG-HRTV until our mind numbs. Nobody needs another 25 ten-cent phrases more than Trevor if he is to last another 20 years in a world where races stream across our phones with the tiniest tweak of a slingbox.

Can you say OVERRATED

The bloom is off the rose.Especially since the "Jockeys" tv show

and away they go ? Not my favorite he was a 3 star until he called the BC and he was a -10 that day

With out a doubt TD is one of the finest race callers of all time. I remember watching the odd race from Santa Anita in the 1980's on British Television, and thought how well he could read a race. Unlike some callers TD has the ability to spot a horse tailed off at the back, but still in contention. I have been to the last two Breeders' Cups at Santa Anita, and feel privelidged to have heard his unique style on the days leading up to the Cup itself. Look forward to being there this year to hear him call the Cup itself. "And Away They Go" much better than the rather boring "There Off"

Since i've been watching horse racing, i find that trevor denman is the best announcer out there. he's always "MOVING LIKE A WINNER" in my book.
sgilfoil 11/24/2007
Trevor is Trevor. You feel like every race is a big race when he's calling it. "moving like a winner" is my favorite call in his stable.
bruinbob 11/21/2007
He has revolutionalized American race-calling since he came to Santa Anita in the mid 1980s. He was the first to describe the loading of horses into the gate, too. He is the first to give lengths from the front, too, instead of just the margin between a horse and the one immediately behind it in the race.
markEmark 08/20/2007
I'll give him 3 stars and I'm being generous. He royally screwed up last year's Breeders Cup calls. His stretch calls were about as exciting as watching grass grow. God knows why a top rated track like Sanita Anita has him as an announcer. He's simply overrated. I wouldn't hire him to call races at Finger Lakes (in NY).
jballscalls 10/21/2005
Trevor is one of the best, and when most people think announcers i think they think of him before durkin, would love to see him get to do the breeders cup, but he needs some new catch phrases.
tmravik 08/26/2005
We in Southern California are blessed to have Trevor Denman call the races. Vic Stauffer at Hollywood Park is a second by a nose. Trevor is amazing and I love listening to his calls. I don't have to watch the actual race (although I do!) to be able to picture what's happening. I do not know why the Breeders' Cup continues to use Tom Durkin instead of switching up the game and using Trevor as the announcer. Trevor is far and away the better race caller.
Bald Poet 08/10/2005
I have to say that his five-star rating is in jeopardy, as he's starting to run out of metaphors (I do tire of the wings analogy when a horse is romping) - but I have to agree with everyone else that absolutely nobody can spot a charger earlier/better that Denman. It's that ability that separates him from the rest.
ghost257 07/22/2005
Not as great as in the 80's & 90's but still the best calling today.
Ozrob1711 07/07/2005
Ability to pick a contender from back in the field early in race is outstanding.
LexMark 06/03/2005
A tremendous descriptor of horse racing. The perfect balance of excitement and intesity in his calls. Simply the best.
thenose 03/04/2005
A solid second but tends to get overrated.
barrister 02/11/2005
No nonsense calling, good at painting a picture of what's happening during the race.
DarrenTyquin 01/28/2005
Great Announcer
Paul1963 01/21/2005
NO ONE sees a field of horses the way Trevor Denman does. He can spot a gnat jump off a horse at the quarter pole right before the horse makes it move to close.
rockport 12/20/2004
His ability to pick up the winning horse four furlongs out is uncanny and no other announcer can match that ability.
bsd987 11/11/2004
Yes, he may be on the downside of his career, but he is still as genius as ever.
