Amazon delivered quickly from the US. The Quran is hardback and has a sense of quality about it - not too large to handle nor too small. The text font is of good size and easy to read in the clear latin script and Arabic. This Spanish translation is fluid. An excellent buy

For a while I have been looking for a Spanish translation of the Koran and I received this 1998 edition published by Amana as a gift from a brother. The version in hand is hard bound imprinted with a nice golden Islamic frame design embracing the title, the name of the translator and the publisher on a contrasting dark navy blue color. The left side of the cover is in Spanish and the right side is in Arabic making the book to look and feel like a classical Islamic book. The book contains 1262 pages. It starts with a general index followed by the editor's word, a prologue and the translator's preface. These pages are followed by a pronunciation guide for the Arabic alphabet and a useful table for the biblical names and their corresponding Arabic pronunciation. A complete index for the names of chapters (Suras) is placed just before the first chapter of the Koran. The names of Suras and their corresponding number and starting page are given in the index in both Spanish and Arabic. The actual translation starts on page 12 with Spanish on the left-side page and the corresponding Arabic text on the opposite/right-side page. This layout is convenient for learning the Koran in Arabic. The Koranic verses are numbered on both the Spanish and Arabic sides, which is good for those who are learning Arabic. The number of composing verses of each chapter and the name of the city in which verses were revealed is given at the beginning of the relevant chapter. The font size for both the Spanish and the Arabic texts and the soft "vanilla/very light beige" color of the paper make it easy on the eye for reading even for extended hours. The translation flows natural and seems to sincerely reflect the Arabic meaning. In many instances, however, the Koranic language requires additional explanation that cannot be easily conveyed without some background knowledge. For example, the first verse of the second chapter of the Koran is a mysterious code that reads simply Alif, Lam, Mim (A.L.M) that cannot be translated. However, I found that the more I read of the translation, the more I like it. I enjoyed reading chapter 12 (José/Yusuf) and chapter 36 (I.S/Yasin) tremendously. I was stunned by the faithfulness of the translation and by the ability of the translator to render the Koranic beauty into Spanish. So there is an element of eloquence and it seems like the translator has put a lot of efforts into selecting his words carefully to convey the meaning and to hint to the melodious construction of the Arabic verses. I also like the use of Spanish names instead of Arabic because that makes reading easier. For the Spanish reader, it is much easier, for example, to identify with biblical names like Dios, Isaac, Jesús, Juan, and José than their corresponding Arabic names. It makes reading much easier. I have not completed reading the whole translation, but I found it smooth, easy to follow and simply beautiful. It deserves my rare 5-star rating and I recommend this translation to all Spanish readers. Salah
