Doraymefoslotee,or however you spell the horses name,LOL,,just one of his more recent race calls of a horse in New York,I listen to 1000's of races each yr,mostly online so I know the great announcers,hes one of the alltime bests,I'm kinda HOOKED ON HORSE RACING LIKE SOMEONE IS ADDICTED TO THE SOAP OPERA SHOWS, SO TOM DURKIN IS JUST A PLAYER(actor) IN THE SHOW ALONG WITH Edgar Prado,Johhny V,Kent D.,Ramon D. as well as the players in the Midwest at Arlington or Hawthorne or out west at Santa anita/Delmar/Hollywood or in the south etc. Tom Durkin is a very good announcer and seems to really enjoy his job!

Much of TD's craft was developed calling pacers. The Meadowlands misses his view even today. Harness racing has less action and makes the caller describe what might happen-risky until you've got the feel of it and hard if you risk credibility on a lazy odds-on horse that never fires.

Durkin became a great caller when he moved to the flats and could find much to talk about during a race. He swept NYRA's Marshall Cassidy aside like Ringo Star on Pete Best. The rest is history.

Despite others who grumble on "has been" negativity, Durkin's 20 years promise another 20 better than his "West coast rival's" career.

DURKIN IS A SOLID 7 ... But he really Botched the "09" Ky Derby ...He never noticed Mind that Bird until final 70 yards !! Brutal ..

Someone please start up a petition for the King Tom Durkin to be back to where he belongs.....Calling the Breeders Cup! I can't listen to anyone of these generic Denmin calls. He's a great annoucer in California, but when it comes to the Big Stage like the Breeders Cup let Durkin do is thing. Simply the best....

Very good caller.  He adds a good deal of colour without losing the action.

Best ever love it when he says things like " Horse run by" "wins the race in to the 1st turn"  The call of the Personal Ensign & Winning colors was one if not the best call in history

Always colorful and descriptive. Give a lively call, but occasionally gives editorial opinion during a race. I miss him doing the Breeder's Cup, even though I think Trevor Denman is the best caller.

Durkin is by far the best race caller of our time. He always brings his A game and never misses a beat. The Breeders Cup is not the same without him. Denman is a good announcer I agree, but he is used to calling races in California that average 6 horses per race. He was LOST in the 2006 Breeders Cup. Watch the Juvenile, Denman spends 15 seconds calling Circular Quay like he was a winner without noticing that Street Sense has already opened 6 lengths on the field. In the Distaff he never even mentioned that Pine Island, one of the favorites had fallen and was out of the race. I truly hope he improves this year.

Tom is a pretty good announcer, but I would go with Dave Johnson, hands down, as the best.

Tom Durkin is still the best. I could listen to him all day - and have! He's still at the top of his game. Check out his call for the Belmont Stakes 2007 - it was Curlin, Rags to Riches and Durkin rolling down the home stretch.

Tom Durkin is the best.  Durkin-Hater is definitely on drugs or just trying to pick a fight.  I listen to Durkin on all of the NYRA races and he shows as much enthusiasm for a maiden race as he does for a major stakes race.  Trevor Denman doesn't hold a candle to Durkin and demonstrated that when he failed miserably calling the races at last year's Breeders Cup.  Let's hope that some day the Breeders Cup folks will give the telecast back to NBC so that Tom Durkin can call those races again.  And many of his quotes will go down in history such as referring to Funny Cide as "The Gutsy Gelding".  Now EVERYONE, even the owners, refer to Funny Cide using the name created by Tom Durkin.  He's a class act.  You're an idiot, Durkin-Hater!!

About the only knock on Durkin is that he treats the lower-level races with a lower-level call, while Denman pretty much treats each race equally. There's no denying that he's as good as Chick Anderson was at calling the big races, however - and much better than Dave Johnson was. I loved his Stampede call during the first 1/4 of this year's Derby ...

His Breeders Cup calls are still excellent

While I believe Trevor Denman sees a horse race better then anyone, Tom Durkin's calls are poetry. They are the stuff of historic sound bites. Tiznow wins it for America. I think racing enthusiasts and novices alike will realize this the day the 12th Triple Crown winner crosses the finish line at Belmont. 1 to 5 says Mr. Durkin's call that day will immediately join in sports history and American lore Cosell's Down goes Frazier. Down goes Frazier, Down goes Frazier Russ Hodges' the Giants win the pennant. The Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant... and Al Michael's Do you believe in miracles... Tom Durkin is that good...

I would defy u to find anyone who can call a regular race with huge enthusiasm each and every time. Durkin is top 2.. no questions asked!
