I live in New Mexico and from the inside perspective I don't think Richardson is so great.

Great for NM, Great with foriegn relations. People like him and the voters will to. Upset of the year!

I've been a fan of Richardson for years. His nononsence way of speaking along with a humorous wit makes him a refreshing candidate. Some one I feel would be welcomed by even the most conservative. He would definately get the Latino vote as well as the moderate. His political experience would definately be a plus. Ex Congressman, Ex Ambassador to the UN, Ex Energy Secratary under Clinton, and present NM Governor. WOW! now that's a resume!!!!!!!!

High numbers with hispanics, blacks and traditional dems.Even Archie Bunker /Ronald Reagan Dems don't seem to mind him.

Bill Richardson looks like the best candidate for the presidentail nomination. He has a lot of experience and proven performance in New Mexico. He would be great as a running mate with Hilary. Look out Republicans this duo is going to be hard to beat!
flippy1992 10/10/2005
Bill Richardson has an advantage. He's a governor from a big swing state in 2004 and 2000, he has tons of experience (especially foreign policy experience) and has Latino heritage. But there are some disadvantages to him. He's sort of lackluster on the campaign trail and has the Los Alamos security scandal under his belt to. I see him as more of a VP, he could help any candidate win the West and the Latino vote. And if Hillary runs, which is very likely, I doubt he'll want to get in her way, because of his friendship with the Clintons. If she runs, look for him to sit this one out or drop out of the primaries and accept the VP nomination from Hillary or anyone else. That's how I see it. As a VP, he could give any Democrat New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, Florida and dare I say this, Arizona.

I would say Richardson is a strong possibility. He has been putting himself out there more and more, getting a lot of national TV time, since he was brought up as a possible running mate for John Kerry in '04. He likeable, and frankly that is not common among most noteable far left wing Democrats.
PlanetaryGear 07/09/2005
Not a bad idea. He would certainly deliver New Mexico, and help sway the Latino vote. But he would have a tough time in the primaries against better funded, more made for T.V. candidates.
GenghisTheHun 07/09/2005
He is a good candidate, but a real longshot.
CA4life 06/07/2005
The popular Governor of New Mexico would be a strong candidate for President. He will pose a huge threat to Hillary Clinton in the primaries, and he has an advantage because he is a Governor. In the general election states such as New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado probably go Democrat. This would give him an Electoral victory in the election. Very solid candidate and should be strongly considered.

he sounds more like a VP candidate to me. could be a good ticket-balancer.
stolypin 06/06/2005
This guy is probably the only one on this list I'd even consider voting for - and I consider myself a moderate independent! (I'd probably consider voting for Warner, but I live in Virginia and know better!) Does it worry Dems that most of their potential candidates are former losers (Dean, Edwards, Kerry, Gore) and/or certified crack-pots (Dean, Gore, Pelosi). And why is Franken, Daschle, and Springer so high? Damn the democrat field is weak!
RaterX 04/13/2005
Not Presidential material. The press oohs and ahhs over him because he is part Hispanic. He's an empty suit.

Bill is a member of the Bill Frist I am just not prepared for the job club.
Jar-Jar Binks 04/11/2005
Sure why not? He has the potential. Call me a lunatic but any of these 25 here on this list is fine with me. I am DESPERATE for a Democrat to run our country again. ... I can't stand Bush, I can't these Republicans and I sure can't stand conservatism! ... Pretty soon if we keep electing these Reptile Republicans, we're gonna find ourselves in a World War with communist China, when the GOP skirts the UN and declares another meaningless war. And in 20-years down the road, we are gonna end up living in the People's Republican of China of America!

A successful governor with foreign policy experience who just happens to be Latin American - sounds like the perfect choice to me. This guy probably worries Republicans more than any other. I'm worried.

No charisma.No money. No chance
jamestkirk 11/15/2004
I believe he will run, but I don't think he will capture the nomination.
abichara 11/14/2004
Of all the potential Democratic candidates, Richardson is the most interesting choice. He has a very wide range of experience. He was in Congress for 15 years before being picked by Clinton as his Ambassador to the UN. A year later he went on to serve as Secretary of Energy. Today he's Governor of New Mexico, where he's pursued innovative and moderate policies on fiscal issues, industry, criminal justice, education and environment. His strength seems to be in foreign affairs; he recently lead a trade delegation from his home state to Asia and usually hosts diplomats at the Governors residence to discuss, for instance, proliferation issues with South Korean officials. Such moves give him a higher profile. Richardson has also been nominated 4 times for the Nobel Peace Prize. Overall he has the best resume of the group. A potential negative could be the mishandling of the Wen Ho Lee case during his time at the Energy Department. A Chinese scientist had been handing over state secrets, including information about our nuclear weaponry, to China and Richardson took a lot of heat for this. However laxed security was a long standing problem at most major nuclear facilities throughout the country before Richardson came in. It wasn't his fault that the Lee case blew open when he was there. Overall he could be a top contender for the Presidency. As a Latino, Richardson could run well in critical states like Florida, Colorado, California, and maybe Texas. He's also very appealing to independents and Republicans, which will help out the party in states that have been trending Democratic for the past 2 or 3 elections. Democrats ought to take a look at him. He'd probably also make a good President.
BIGBABY 11/14/2004
Richardson vs. Clinton. If Richardson wins the nomination, it proves that Democrats have at least some brain cells left. Has the ability to take several western states away from the GOP.

As a Republican I might just vote for this guy. Go to this website WWW.GOV.STATE.NM.US and you can read some of the things he has done as the New Mexico governor. Four time nobel peace prize nominee, former ambassador to the U.N. (I don't care for the U.N., but he did his job honorably), 15 year New Mexico congressman, and Secretary of the Department of Energy. He could take Arizona or Colorado away from the Republicans. Could easily counter a ticker with John McCain on it. Very qualified.
