He helped bring the country together after 9-11 and he spoke out against the war in Iraq before it was started (which ultimately cost him an election). Time has proven him right.

From what I hear he is thinking about it. I guess all Senators think they can be President. Few ever do.
Drummond 01/10/2006
A nice thought, but he lost partly because he doesn't really stand for anything.

I believe he can come back, I'm hoping over these next few years he takes a long hard look at why he lost his senate seat and start forming a message, But I am very certain that his record is going to be a problem that the Republicans will pounce on.

Toms current status is proof of the brutal nature of politics. But, even in top form he was still to boring to appeal to the masses.

Tommy lost his base and may sink out of sight.

in a way i'm glad he's gone from the senate. he represents the weakness and inefficiency of the democratic party that has loomed over it since 2000.

Political parties need to automatically exclude any candidate who cant even win his or her home state. HEY Tom Daschle, John Edwards, George Pataki, Rudy Giuliani,Condoleeza Rice and Al Gore, Even Walter Mondale Won his home state against Reagan. HIT THE ROAD!!!!

He can't even win South Dakota, how is he going to win the nomination?

This beloved former Senator is a breath of fresh air for the Democrats. His ability to persuade the immensely conservative state of South Dakota to keep him as Senator for 20 years astonishes me. His power in the west is exactly what the Democrats need to assure victory in 2008. Tom Daschle is the kind of person that anyone can relate and look up to. For example my father is just an average guy who lives in Sioux falls and him and Daschle have been friends for over ten years. He has the experience, the know how, the potential and the ability to be the President of the United States. And if/when the people see that, then there is no doubt in my mind that he will have their vote.

Had he won re-election in 2004, Daschle would have been on the list of potential Presidential candidates. Losing in politics is a killer. Daschle may run again for office in South Dakota, but he's not going to be a contender for national office anytime soon.

Please. He is yesterday after 2004 loss.
jamestkirk 11/15/2004
No way. Someone as liberal as he is doesn't have a chance in a general election. This is the main lesson learned by Democrats in this past 2004 election.

Would never happen, even if people spelled his name correctly. I would love to see it though...

Other than losing a very closing senate election to Senator-elect Thune in South Dakota he is much more moderate than most of the elite DEMS right now. Maybe the loss will help him to regain his political focus and understanding of main stream America. After spending 18 years in the Senate maybe this will help him to regain his populist attitude to sent him to Washington in the first place. I think he could get the nomination and make a case for the base of the party, the moderates, independents, and moderate Republicans.
