I heard this was the basis for our M60 mg. Other reviewers seem to confirm this.

Was the best MG of WW2 with out any problems the german inf squads just carried the ammo. The hole time feeding this monster as it eat it up, the fire power from this MG was truly amazing. as many many thousands found out the hard way! ouch.

This weapon was so good that the USA used its concept in developing the M-60 machine gun. This weapon had a tremendous rate of fire.

Its quite amazing to hear a MG42 fire. Whereas weapons like the Browning MGs were slow enough to hear the slight pauses between each bullet, nothing of the sorts was heard when teh MG42 fired. Feared, with good reason. Easily the best MG of the war, in pratically any role. Both the 42 and 34 allowed the Germans to revolutionized squad based tactics, and allowed for further development of Western and Eastern Armies. The Americans copied it, the Soviets copied it, and the Germans still use it, well, the MG3 is roughly the same weapon. But, the MG45 (bet you didn't know that existed) was just as impressive (maybe even moreso), but it never saw service. But, that didn't stop the Soviets and Americans from capturing the plans and copying them as well. The Fallschirmjägergewehr 42 is just as interesting a weapon.

Premier machinegun of WW II. Often copied or imitated (to include the US M-60), but never really equalled.

It probably may be te most deadly machine Gun made in weapons history.

This weapon was the most influential mg of WW2, ideas being copied, borrowed from, or simply stolen to produce a host of mg's post war. It was of standard German 7.92mm caliber and like most mg's could cut down a tree with ease.
