Fired the .45 caliber pistol round. It was reliable and fired from a open bolt system that was a little unusal. Usually the bolt is closed with cartridge in the chamber when you pull the trigger. On the Thompson when you pull the trigger, the bolt slides into position and grabs a cartridge from the magazine, chambers it, fires, and blows back the bolt to continue the process until the magazine is empty.

It has to be good considering how long it has lasted. Designed around the WW1 era and then used in WW2 and Vietnam.
