Wizard of Oz is a classic.  This is a great musical, I never knew that it was a remake though.  This would have to be one of the best remakes.

Fantastic film.One of the top 10 movies of all time.

A timeless classic that will always be one the best movies of all time. It's one of those movies you can watch and enjoy throughout your entire lifetime.

The way I see it, film hadn't totally developed as an artistic medium until the addition of sound. I'm sure there are film buffs out there who would argue that there are some very good silent films. But, they would also have to admit that for the average person, they just haven't held up as a completly enjoyable form of entertainment. Anything done before sound would have to be more entertaining remade with sound. There is no better example as far as I'm concerned than The Wizard of Oz. Still beloved by children and adults for over 65 years.

I never knew there was an earlier version of the Wizard of Oz. You have to give the 1939 version five stars just for longevity alone, but it is and will continue to be a classic for all times. As old as it is it has never become dated, the mark of a true classic.
