Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. 5

Bob Ehrlich is not the man many seem to believe him to be. He's been a vindictive, mean spirited governor, with a single real objective for Maryland, slot machines. He lacks leadership skills, is poorly tempered and is likely to be beaten in his bid for a 2nd term. He sure did not show any willingness or ability to work with a democratic legislature, and never in my 50 years have I seen such contention and bitterness in Annapolis. If the GOP can't do better than him then forget retaining the White House.

I am a moderate to liberal democrat, lifelong party member, who lives in Maryland. I voted for Ehrlich in 2002 and plan to do so again in 2006, over our popular Irish mayor in Baltimore! 2008 may be a bit early, but by 2012 or 2016, who knows? He is fiscally conservative, aware of moral issues and able to accomplish them without inciting riots, and willing to THINK. That last quality is particularly admirable. All I know is, great things are in store...

Another face in a growing list of governors who are potential presidential candidates. Ehrlich would certainly be an advantage to have on the Republican ticket in 2008 because he seems to have broad-based appeal. In 2002, he was elected Governor of Maryland, a state with a 2 to 1 Democratic majority, defeating Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the eldest daughter of RFK. His moderate views on some social issues could hurt his chances in the primary, but Ehrlich is a telegenic candidate who would have wide national appeal. He faces a tough re-election campaign in 2006, but if he survives that, it's almost certain that he has a bright political future.

I'm not sure about him; at least he's a governor so he'd likely win if the Dems nominate a member of Congress. His lieutinent governor, a guy named Steele, next year could become the first black Republican senator in quite a few years.

I am a college student in Maryland; I have had the pleasure to talk with Gov. Ehrlich on several occasions about college tuition in Maryland. I like and respect him very much, his informal but professional style when he discuses issues, shows that he has a passion for the job and that he values the opinions of students, which is unusual in politics today. I think he is an effective leader and because of that and many other qualities, I feel that he would be a great leader at any level especially the Presidency. I would love to see and I defiantly would volunteer for an Ehrlich/Steele national campaign.

WOW!!! He'd be my kind of president. He's been tough on crime, he's reduced the states deficit by over 1.2 billion, he's balanced the budget every year he's been governor. He's rejected tax increases, funded education, provided more funding more Medicaide. He faces tasks head on. He would appeal to every corner of the Republican party and garner quite a significant number of independent and Democratic votes. He might be able to deliver some predominantly blue states into the Republican's hands. Could score big on the eastern sea board. (Lots of electoral votes up there)

Bob Ehrlich has impressive credentials to be a Presidential candidate, but has yet to emerge on the national scene. He has served in the Senate, and is currently Governor of Maryland. His election to the top spot in Maryland is pretty impressive considering the state's vast history of support for Democrats.
