Specifically: it takes too much time to wade through the useless one-line pseudo-reviews of MySpacers...or whoever these kids are that post 40+ consecutive 'reviews' every few minutes ('dont know' or 'no opinion' or 'sucks' or 'ewwwwww' or 'dis is great' or 'OMG'). These fools rarely if ever return-though it doesn't matter, since otherwise indistinguishable illiterates almost immediately take their place. Wading through pages and pages of text (in the recent reviews page) just to find something resembling a coherent thought simply takes too much time. Besides summer vacation, I'm not sure what has brought on this onslaught of mediocrity-though I believe much of it can be attributed to the (well-intentioned) site design changes over the last year, which promote quantity over quality.
I'm sure Magellan has a crack team of experts working on the problem. In the meantime, I will try to survive without my RIA fix-my best to all the regulars.

I suppose if you find yourself neglecting other things it might be a good idea to step away. I can see someone not being able to pull themselves away from saying one more thing about Grizzly Snuff or clicking that Recent Review link just one more time when they don't have the time to spare.
Wiseguy 06/14/2008
Sometimes, especially when I have to write a lengthly post, I change words around, then I proof read it a couple of times, and right after I finally post it...I'll still find stupid mistakes.
cyclee 05/02/2008
Not so much. I do this while I'm working. I can analyze my data and read a review at the same time with the same approach.
numbah16tdhaha 02/28/2008
Time I have... maybe too much time...
LastMessenger3 07/14/2007
Everything we do takes time, at least this time is well spent!
louiethe20th 07/14/2007
Switching to Mozilla Firefox helped me out a little.
XAgent 07/13/2007
Some times it does slows down but I'm usually looking at several pages and hardely notice anyways.
Loerke 07/13/2007
Ditto to the comments about dial-up. Even on my DSL, the site seems slow to load.
LadyJesusFan77 7 07/13/2007
True, I do limit my time on RIA due to a very busy schedule, but I would never leave on account of that.
Vudija 01/10/2007
especially with dial-up (I hate living in the boonies! haha)

Even though I keep stating that I am addicted...I really do only have so much time available for the computer fun so I really can't say that I am wasting my time here.
Bye 02/13/2006
Not really, but more time than I seem to have for it now. Well, I started to just leave without a word, but I realized how rude and ugly that would have been to the people I have grown to like so much here. As many of you know, last year was a real bummer for me and this year started out so much better. I started my own little antique business a few weeks ago with a good friend and thought things couldn't get much better. I found out a few days ago I have ovarian cancer. I have been on an emotional roller coaster for months and couldn't figure out what in the world was wrong with me. Finding out I am sick instead of crazy would have been a great relief except I sure didn't plan on this! I intend to fight it with every thing I have, but I also have to put away everything but the real priorties in my life. I don't have much will power and deleting my account will keep me from coming here. lol I need to set my house in order and prepare for battle. I know many of you have my email address and I intend to keep in touch, but for awhile I need some time alone. I just don't want to talk about it right now. Please know I enjoyed being a part of this site and I have fun and met many good people who will never be forgotten. Take care and good luck to all of you. GoneAway

It's definitely addicting.
SZinHonshu 01/19/2006
Good one. If you're not careful, this can eat up a lot of otherwise productive time.
Redoedo 05/13/2005
Nah. I only come to RIA when I HAVE time, so this is not an issue.
Gentle Jude 03/12/2005
Maybe if you were spending a few hours a day. It is like anything, it is good in moderation. RIA is no different from TV. If we spend too much time watching TV, this isn't good for us.
irishgit 02/15/2005
As far as I'm concerned, every item on this list is a good reason to leave RIA. If any of it bugs you that much, by all means go. If this web-site is central to your life, you have a serious problem.
twinmom101 02/15/2005
This and the fact that up until yesterday I had dial-up internet and sometimes it would take up to two minutes for one page to upload. If I could multi-task RIA in somehow, perhaps by getting ethernet and taking my laptop with me to a boring meeting or class, I could mess around on here more.
Jar-Jar Binks 02/15/2005
Takes too much time? Got dat right!
abichara 11/18/2004
RIA should be hobby, not something that's all consuming. Maybe if it reaches the point of obession, then you ought to leave. Addiction is never a good thing.
EschewObfuscat ion 11/18/2004
Me, too, Jake.
jakemr33 11/17/2004
Only if you like to leave incredibly long posts, which I tend to do sometimes......
Mr.Political 11/17/2004
Well, I suppose this is a valid reason for leaving RIA but how much time does it take to click a yellow button and drop a line or two?
bibliophile 11/17/2004
Well, RIA consumes time, but you can be as involved as you wish. Nobody says you have to meet some minimum quota of ratings or that's it-no soup for you! You're out. If my work schedule changes, I might not be able to post as often, but I'd still visit.

But you don't understand; I really AM being held prisoner in a room full of computers, VCR's, DVD players, and aging and pointless video tapes. The gatekeeper of this techno-hell is a gargoyle with a split personality whos one and only joy in life is to demoralize his prisoners and leave them emotionally dead. His sycophant sidekick is a self-appointed techno-geek whose single pathetic goal in life is to one day take over this tiny rancid little kingdom. Due to my long imprisonment I recently discovered that my butt has grown to my computer chair, my mind has turned to cottage cheese and the only thing I have to break up the monotony of plotting my escape and/or revenge is Rate It All!!! Now you may begin to realize at least one reason for my longevity here.
kamylienne 11/16/2004
Yeah, I agree, but no one's holding a gun to my head, either.
Donovan 11/16/2004
Although I don't spend as much time as a lot of you fine folks on RIA I know I spend way too much!
