If this is an absolute truth, how do you explain the acquisition of helpfuls by certain sour old bastards we have on here.

Like that harp curmudgeon in second place on the "helpful" list, for example.+

Absolutely. Never mind if they are truthful or represent your position or belief. Hypocrisy is very well received in the community.

Gosh, golly, gee willikers! I sure like drinking a wholesome glass of milk and eating a nice juicy red apple while I think about daffodils, rainbows, and puppies while I look out the window and wave to my friend the sun and all the birdies while I listen to "Up, Up and Away" by the 5th Dimension and make a weblist about Up With People!

Depends on the topic. Happy numbah is great in some places and angry numbah is more effective in others. Calm, yet serious Jedi numbah is also gaining momentum on some subjects and is rapidly taking angry numbah's place.

I admit sometimes I let comments about me interfere with my good judgment but it has nothing to do with being thin skinned or the inability to take criticism. I strongly believe you can offer criticism without being a jerk about it. Credibility is important and I have done my best to maintain mine in spite of a few who say different. Having a positive attitude is a real plus and speaks volumes about an individuals perspective on life. It's ok to disagree, it's ok to speak with authority, but don't belittle someone in the process.

Of course one has to be positive, but not to the point that you ignore reality. Speaking truth to power may not always be the popular thing to do, but it needs to be done in order to maintain a degree of credibility.
