This book appears to be brand new. It also arrived in less than a week from when I ordered it. Great business!

This is an excellent book! I recommend this books to every teacher and parent out there! Although I teach in a predominately white school district and don't have a lot of the issues Tatum discusses, but there are valuable things that all teachers should have in mind when dealing with children of other races.

I read this book with the aid of a class facilitator ... five weeks was hardly enough time to examine all that was unearthed in each of us. The lessons and concepts that Dr. Tatum presents lay an amazing framework so that people of all races can understand why we still deal with racial discord in this country and how each of us can become part of an ongoing solution to break down the systemic, institutionalized racism that plagues our country. Read it if you dare to open your eyes.

"Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?": A Psychologist Explains the Development of Racial Identity (Beverly Daniel Tatum) 1

As an Ivy League grad student in Education, I was made to read this awful book, and the realization that my professors not only believed but actually LIKED this book is what led me to drop out. I was, apparently, the only person amongst the dozens of students in my program who found the book to be racist propaganda of the worst kind. Initially, I thought it was just the bad writing that bothered me. Then I got to the author's definition of racism, and I choked; it just didn't make sense to me. I could find no dictionary to support her definition. Now, I know why: as previous reviewers have noted, the author makes up a perverted definition of the word in order to create her twisted polemic. Overall, I find it sad that so much energy has been put into creating more hatred, rather than trying to find common ground amongst people.
