I took my engagement ring and wedding band to the Christiansburg, VA location to have a small diamond replaced and the shanks on both rings fixed. I picked up the rings on 10/27/09 and payed a fee of $180. In less than 48 hours both shanks were bent far worse than before and three small diamonds were gone from the engagement ring. I have been told that it will not be fixed under the 6 month warranty because it was not under normal wear and tear. I can assure you that I did nothing unusual in the 48 hours after receiving the rings. The customer service person even accused me of "running over it with a car". This is absurd. I have been a customer with this store for 12 years and I am shocked to be treated this way. Why offer a 6 month warranty if you do not stand behind your work?

I would rate Kay's Jewelry no stars. I bought a diamond cluster ring and 3 months later one of the diamonds fell out. They did not offer to replace the ring but said since it was still in warranty they would send it in for the lost diamond to be replaced with a similar one. When it came back from their repair company at first glance in the store it seemed to be all right (and who would be thinking it wasn't). After signing that I had received it back, as I was wearing it I felt the replaced diamond looked dark for some reason. Since I was scheduled to go back for their "normal" inspection in 6 months I thought I would discuss it at that time. In the meantime, I showed the ring to several family members and asked if it looked all right to them. After all, I am 76 years old and certainly not an expert on diamonds. Everyone said the same thing..... that area looked dark. I don't know if the diamond they put in is a darker color or if it is not mounted correct. Kay's did agree to send it to a different repair shop to have the diamond in question raised up a bit, saying that they thought it was mounted a bit too low. When I went to pick it up in September it looked the same as before and I wasn't even sure anything had been done to correct it. After much debating, I was told I should not have signed for it when I got it back from repairs previously. To them, signing meant I was satisfied with it. To make a long story short, after speaking with 4 people at Peoria Kay's, including the manager, they said they would send it in again to another repair shop. I am afraid to let them have it again. It is not even fully paid for but I would never buy from Kay's again. I am not happy with the looks of my ring. I am going to finish off the payments and that's the end of Kay's for me! It was not my fault the diamond fell out 3 months after I bought the ring. They should have replaced the ring if they could not make it look right after replacing the diamond that was lost!
Don't go there. If you have any problems you will only get the run-around!

Kay's Jewelers is one of the most dishonest retail chains I have ever witnessed. A man came in the Kays store seeking employment. Employment forms include such information as a persons social security number, date of birth etc. The assistant manager of the store informed the man after he filled out the job application that the company "Kays" needs to do a credit check. This credit check is suppose to be done by the home office. Yet, the assistant manager was referring to a credit check for a Kays card. The man advised the assistant manager no thank you. Yet the assistant manager kept on pushing the man to fill out a credit application to which the man kept replying NO! After the man left the store the assistant manager took all the information from the employment application and filled out a application for a Kays store credit card. In fact the assistant store manager also signed the man's name to the credit application.

We've had a horrible experience with Kay and it's still not over. we ordered my fiance's wedding ring there, after comparison shopping. We liked the guy we talked to and the prices were comparable. Big mistake. I called five days after the ring was supposed to have arrived, since we hadn't gotten a call. After not getting a call back, I had to call the next day again. Turns out, the manager had tried to order the ring we wanted, but found he couldn't get it from that company.... and never bothered to find a replacement or let us know something was wrong. My fiancee had to leave work and go to the store to pick a new one. We thought the matter was settled - they were going to rush the new one. Then we realized that although we had paid in full initially, the new receipt said that we owed $200 more when the ring was due! So, 8 days before our wedding, I spent the day on the phone with customer service (who never called back when they said they would) fighting it out. First, they said there's no way our original ring was the price we paid. I told them I had a receipt with a zero balance and then they miraculously found it in the system. Then they said that they'd split the difference with me and I'd only have to pay $50 more. THEY SOLD ME A RING THAT DIDN'T EXIST and then told me I'd have to pay more to fix the problem? And they had us over a barrell because no other store could rush the special order in time. Finally, after bitching A LOT, they said that they are going to give us the new ring for the original price. I think they should be giving us the ring and a refund after all this mess. Oh, did I mention that throughout, the manager who we had originally bought from, and ALL THE OTHER MANAGERS were conveniently at a conference in Florida and could not be reached? What a crock.

I have a princess cut Leo that was purchased from Kay June 18, 2008. It has been sent to them 5 times for repair since April 1 of this year. The last time being received back on August 19. September 16 I noticed that the stone is loose again. It seems that every 4 - 6 weeks it needs to be sent back for repair. I actually asked them to send me support because we seem to have joint custode of my ring.

They will not refund or replace my money.

The only thing that I will say is caveat emptor.

Go to a local reputable jeweler. You will save alot of money and alot of aggravation.

I tried to give them no stars but the site will not let me.

I thoght I would share my very true and yet very disturbing story with all of you...and perhaps this will shed some light as to why Kay Jewelers does in fact SUCK!! I work in a Mall in Western NY, (not for Kays) recently the Kays in the Mall in which I work (Lakewood NY) had a "new" associate added to their roster...or so I thought!! To my horror, I learned through a VERY reliable source that the new girl (Nancy) was the former Store Manager at another Kays located in Warren PA...seems that some of the Managers employees took offense to her having sex in the computer room with her Assistant Manager, while the store was open no less!! What kind of standards can the company really have if they allow people like this to work for them?? I called to complain and was told it was really none of my business since I was not really a customer...I WILL NEVER BE A CUSTOMER OF KAY'S!! God only knows what kind of bodily fluids could possbily be on their overpriced jewelery!!! And she is still there...probably climbing the company ladder (on her knees)....keep up the good work Kays!

Please don't enter into the nighmare called Kay Jewelers. If you want to purchase a nice diamond find a local Jeweler that has his name on the store. His reputation rests on you getting your money's worth. Kay Jewelers and the mall type stores are the McDonalds of Jewelers. Find a Jeweler that has empoyees that have been there for years. Kay Jewelers does not care if you are happpy once they have your money. Be VERY aware of spending your hard earned money with them. Considering how they have treated me, I would not give them ANY rating.

I bought my girlfriend an engagement ring from Kay Jewelers in July of 2008. She is in nursing school and rarely wears the ring because she has to clean up poop alot and doesn't want to get the ring all "Poopy" so we were both surprised when she brought the ring in for its warrenty cleaning and found that some of the small diamonds were loose and one of the large diamonds was cracked..... how does that happen to ring that doesn't get worn? So she sent the ring off to be fixed and was promised it would be back in one week..... It's been five weeks and they still don't know when the ring will be ready. Apparently there is a diamond shortage or something. My advice to anyone who is going to buy jewelery of importance, go to a real jeweler, who do their own work in shop.

Kay Jewelers doesn't understand customer service. In today's internet economy where people have thousands of choices on where to shop, you would think companies would be on the lookout for ways to be cooperative with their customers - but NOT KAY!

I purchased a watch for my wife as an anniversary gift. To be fair, it is a nice Movado and I felt Kay offered it at a good price as I had done some shopping around. Although my wife liked the watch, she decided that she would like to get a different gift instead. The receipt had Kay's return policy printed on it which says you have 60 days to return your purchase for a refund. (Further down, it mentions the different 30 day 'watch return policy') . Well, like most consumers, I didn't read all of the fine print, only the part at the top which says I had 60 days (my fault!)

I entered the store on day 32 and was told it was past the 30 day 'watch' return policy. I calmly suggested to the store manager that the first line in the return policy said I have 60 days to return my purchase. It was then she pointed out that 'watch' return policy is written further down! I asked why they print that I have 60 days on a watch receipt? She didn't know but instructed me to call customer care (funny that they call it that) as she didn't have the authority to override the policy.

So, this is where it gets really bad. I called and spoke with Jim. I once again told him my sad tale of how I misunderstood the return policy because it says, right at the top, that I had 60 days to return my purchase. (As long as it is not a watch!) Jim pointed out rather rudely that I needed to read the whole thing. DUH. I know that now but, surely on day 32, you can make an exception? Nope. "But, Jim, you printed on my watch receipt that I had 60 days to return my purchase, why would I read further than that? Why should I assume that the 'watch' return policy is specified down further? So, since this is just a clear misunderstanding, and because you value me as a customer, and it is only day 32, you can make an exception, right?" Nope, Nope, double Nope. Oh, almost forgot...Kay has another policy that they will not escalate customer complaints to a supervisor. Never. Nope.

Apparently, Kay would rather I keep a watch that I don't want and NEVER, EVER shop in their store again than make a 2 day exception to a return policy that was misleading. Huh. I will also post this review EVERYWHERE that I can find to keep others from shopping there. Hey Jim, if your supervisor reads this, he would probably applaud you for a job well done. But, if I am the owners of Kay, I think maybe I wish we could have excused the 2 days. Will I ever shop at Kay? Nope. Nope. Triple Nope.

I think there are so many bad reviews out there because when people have a transaction that goes well, they don't think about going out and complimenting. We all just expect that things will go smoothly.

My Kay Jewelers experiences have been great. My fiance had a ring made for me abroad and due to the type of metal the ring was made out of, resizing could not be done without damaging the whole ring. We decided to get a ring locally that could be repaired or re-sized if needed.

After looking at several different local jewelers and other chain stores and dealing with some rather unhelpful sales people, we found the perfect ring at Kay Jewelers.

The people at the store were very friendly, and took lots of time to answer all of our questions, talk about our options, etc. They were very respectful of our price range and didn't pressure us into a ring that was way out of our range. They helped us to customize one of their existing rings by replacing the center diamond with a natural sapphire to match my original engagement ring.

They told me that the ring would be ready in 2 weeks (it needed to be sent out for re-sizing and the stone changes) and it was ready when they said it would be. I picked it up and have been very impressed with the durability. The ring has many smaller stones on the split shank and around the 3 larger stones. They are all very securely in place and sturdy. I love this ring.

Now it has come time for us to look for wedding bands. My engagement ring had a band that went with it in previous catalogs, but the band has recently been discontinued. The manager of the store took time to call the company and try to track down that band for me.

With no luck, they spent a lot of time with me on two different occasions to try to find a ring that would complement mine, showing me lots of different options at different price points. They wrote down all of the information for me and researched the sales prices of the items so we could continue to research/decide at home.

They even let me know that there would be a sale on the rings to help us get the best price possible (we bought the engagement ring while there was a special Black Friday sale, extra 25% off, and we will buy our wedding bands while they are on sale and there is a sales tax holiday), who doesn't like more bling for their buck?

I also visited another Kay's location and was greeted with the same friendly and helpful staff. I would highly recommend Kay Jewelers to anyone looking for jewelery. We also got a Kay's card to purchase our rings and with on-time payments you will not be charged interest on your purchase (any way to save a buck these days is appreciated!)

Again, I have been really impressed.

I will have to agree with many of the other reviews.  My 1st husband & I
as well as my 2nd husband always patronized Kays or Beldens (a sister store
) but never again.  After what we went through in Feb. we decided that so
me of their employees are untrustworthy.  By this, I mean that when I acc
idently went out of the store without taking part of my jewelry, I was neve
r called or notified.  They stated that I got back the parts that weren't
being sent out to be repaired in a plastic bag; which I DIDN'T!  They st
ated that they didn't have them. How this came about was that I brought in
two necklaces that had broken chains.  I received the paperwork for the c
hains.  Meanwhile, the one sales girl stated that she would clean & inspe
ct my pendants (journey pendant & past/present/future pendant).  My husba
nd saw the girl go towards the cleaner but never completed the trip; the ot
her sales girl was talking to me about other jewelry in the sales flyer.
We walked out not thinking about the pendants.  When I realized what hap
pened, I thought oh they'll give them to me when I go back to get the chain
s.  WRONG!!!  I called the store when I got home to tell them I didn't
get the pendants back & that's when they stated that they had given them ba
ck already & that I must have put them in my purse (I don't carry a purse i
n a mall or even in a store--too cumbersome for my liking also with the ras
h of purse snatchings--no way would I bring it).  They stated that they w
ould look around but after I called again, they said they couldn't find the
m that I must have them.  I called the corp. office & was told there was
nothing that they could do because since I walked out without them it's my
fault.  I talked to the district manager; she wasn't very nice about it;
more or less stated that I was stupid for not calling right then & there.
When I mentioned something about cameras being in the store, she stated
that she couldn't tell me if the store had them or not. I thought if w
e could look at the tapes for that day, it might show what happened.  Als
o, she stated that the one employee had been with the company for many year
s; the other one was in training (was told by other employee that she was
new--figured as much because she seemed to ask if she was doing things rig
ht.)  Maybe the experienced employee was trustworthy while the other one
wasn't--thought that since I walked out of the store without them, she "pal
med" for herself or for resale.  I had trust in the store since I have be
en buying from this company since 1983 & have bought many items from th
em.  I miss the one sales person I always dealt with (for more than 10
years) but she left because of the shannigans going on; had had a couple of
others who I trusted as well but they left as well.  Also noticed that t
he company doesn't keep employees for very long.  I don't know if they mo
ve
them around so the employees don't get comfortable where they are or what
but it just seems strange especially if they bring in many customers & repe
at ones at that.  I will not recommend this company to anyone anymore; it
's a shame because they do have some nice jewelry.  I know this isn't goi
ng to get my jewelry back & it's not going to put the company out of busine
ss but it helped to vent about the company.  Thank you.

OK I used to love Kays...however that quickly changed rings and chains I have from there they are great not the best but I love them however the bracelet I got from there has fallen off 3 times because of the crappy lobster claw clasp which is supposed to be the best. They did however replace it but then the next one only 2 weeks old and the clasp broke..couldn't find it after I lost it..got no simpathy what so ever..they tried to say they didn't replace lost jewelry I was like what you replaced it once and it broke not even 2 weeks later and they said I should of got it repaired. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO GET IT REPAIRED WHEN IT FELL OFF I COULDNT FIND IT..and trust me this was not the cheapest one they owned..my boyfriend spent alot on my bracelet and now its gone and it hasn't been a year..its currently august I got it last December..the first time it broke was JAN. one month after..found it got it repairs..then broke again in MAY couldn't find it bitched till they replaced it..2 weeks later broke..like I understand they can't keep affording to replace it but what about me and my boyfriend we arn't rich as it is and now I have a warrenty on a bracelet I don't even have and they won't go anything! I will never go there. My friend has had a similar one from Zales for more than a year..proabably like 3 or 4 years and has never had an issue you bet I will never be going to Kays again..and then had the nerve that they hope they could continue in the future giving me the service I deserve..so what I deserve piece of shit service thanks Kays ....I will show you where you can shove your wonderful service

'Wish I could rate a negative for Kays!!!! I have had numerous problems with them too! We purchased my ring at the end of December 2008 and by Feb of 2009 my diamond had fallen out. I went into the store and received no attention or apology at all. They brused me off like I didn't even matter at all. But, I went ahead and sent my ring to be repaired....what other choice do you have? Once repaired, I thought all would be well. I was wrong. Not even 5 months later my diamond fell out again! This was only 2 weeks after having it "inspected." Once again, no apology or even empathy for my problems...not only that, but I explained to them that I was to be married in October 2009 and still needed to have my band sautered to my engagement ring. They "promised" me it would be back in 4-6 weeks. Four weeks later, I called to check the status. The "manager" VERY rudely informed me that it would be the very end of September before my ring would be done. What?? I will be getting married without my ring! They didn't even act like it was a big deal. Sure, not to them, but getting married without your ring? I called customer service and they offered to give me another ring for the same price. Who does that??? Obviously it has sentimental value...at least to me, obvisoulsy not them. I would never ever ever recommend kay jewelers even to my worst enemy!!!!!

I bought a ring 5 years ago. (Ring was rounded on its sides and even thickness all the way around). I turned it in for routine cleaning 2 month ago. They returned it back with dents all over the stones. I turned it back in to fix the dents, they returned me the ring top part of which was twice as thick as the bottom and it was square instead of round, the bottom was still rounded. So I turned it back again for the 3rd time – when I got it back, it was still square and still thick with an answer “We can’t do anything about it, it’s just time affecting gold… Gold wears out, blah blah blah, this is the best we can do. We can’t make it the way it was.”
I called customer relations and you know what they told me? – “It’s wearable; this is what we obligated to do”. That is their quality standards…. No matter how altered the ring is, as long as it’s wearable..

My husband and I have purchased my engagement ring, our wedding bands, and an engagement ring enhancer here. The engagement ring enhancer was purchased as my 9 year wedding anniversary present at the end of June this year.
I decided to have the e-ring and enhancer soldered together the day it came in. Both of my rings were sent out on June 29th. I got the call on July 14th that the ring was in. When I picked it up I didn't take much time to look at it as they were busy. I had the employee verify the number etched in the diamond was the same as on my certificate, and left. Upon further inspection in the car on the way home, we noticed the rings were soldered crooked, and the end of the enhancer was scratched up and bent, so that it was fairly sharp. The inside of the rings also did not match up the whole way. I returned back to the store, and they said they will send it out to have it fixed. I asked if they could get it to me faster as I had already waited 2 weeks for my ring, and it was the jewelers fault that I had to send it back out. The gentleman informed me that "he could try". Well, it's now been 10 days again. I am very disappointed that they make customers who spend good money wait this long when it's their jewelers fault. Our anniversary is over a month past now, and I still don't have my rings to show.

This store is completely untrustworthy. They "lost" my diamond when resetting it. Nothing that they could really do about this until i pitched a fit so loud, I am sure mall security was on it's way. After that they "found" it way in back but had not reset it.

My bridal set they sent out to have resized. After 12 days, they came back the same size! I returned them and the "warranty".

This place is the worst.

At first I was apprehensive when my boyfriend said that he got approved for over $5000.00 worth of credit at Kay Jewelers and that was where we would get my engagement ring, mostly because of the reviews I saw here. I admit, I went in with a negative attitude. I had been doing my research and new what I wanted my diamond to look like. Round cut, 1 carat, colorless/near colorless, no visible inclusions. And I am SO happy to say that I got exactly that!

When my fiancé and I came in I went first to the case with the already set engagement rings; the rings with lots of tiny diamonds set around the big center stone. I was not impressed with them, there were visible inclusions, and they did not look classic or elegant. And they shouldn't have! The prices reflected the quality-as they SHOULD.

I moved down to another case and looked at a GORGEOUS solitaire diamond in a simple white gold band that was lovely- 1 carat, colorless, no visible inclusions and SO sparkly, just what I wanted. But I didn't see a band or an enhancer that I liked to go with it, to give it that extra WOW! factor. When I told that to the girls helping me they immediately told me they could create any ring I wanted. They showed me several wedding bands, and those were exactly what I wanted as my band. Rows of small, pave' diamonds (.5 carats). They explained that they could have several of the small diamonds removed and have the solitaire set in on prongs. It would look stunning. So that's what I got.

My boyfriend proposed on Friday, July 3rd and it was the most romantic day of my life. When he opened the box, down on one knee, the ring left me speechless and thru my tears I was able to get out "Yes! Yes!" when he asked.

The ring is absolutely stunning. It looks like it's worth much more than the $4,100 my fiancé paid for it ($3,100 for the 1 carat solitaire and almost $800 for the band, plus tax of course.)

And I think that people need look at the whole picture when complaining about what has gone wrong in with their Kay experience. When you spend 1000 bucks on a 1 carat diamond it's not going to sparkle as much, it will look cloudy and there will be inclusions visible to the naked eye. You get what you pay for. You may lose diamonds in a cheap band. You get what you pay for.

I am so thankful to Kay Jewelers and to Krista and Terrah at the Oxmoor store in Louisville, KY. They helped to make my engagement day perfect- the company gave my fiancé the credit he needed to buy my dream ring and those 2 girls helped me find it.

I know that many more of my fiancé and my kisses will begin with Kay. :)

Kay is absolutely an untrustworthy company, and if possible, I would give it a negative star value.

Here's my story: Upon deciding to get married, my fiancé and I decided we wanted to use my grandmother's diamond for the engagement ring and get it reset. We took it to Kay's "designer event" and it was reset before our eyes. However, it ended up being too big and they never filed the head down which meant that the diamond stuck out well above the shoulders of the ring. This resulted in it catching on everything, snagging clothes and being cumbersome.

So we took it in to be adjusted. After two weeks I received a call telling me that my diamond had been shattered during the resetting process! I asked if I could have the pieces back, thinking that at least I could salvage some of the pieces, and get them re-cut to add to the wedding band- after all it had been a family heirloom. However, I was told that there was literally nothing left of the diamond- it had been obliterated. I was dumbfounded. How on earth does this happen...? How does any self-respecting jewelry store BLOW UP a diamond?!? To the credit of the sales associate, she was very kind and tried her best to console me. But let’s face it, there was little she could do.

To me, the whole story sounded either incredibly suspicious or completely irresponsible. Either way, I decided that I was done with Kay and just wanted to be compensated for the damage so that I never had to deal with this company again. But apparently, this course of action is not an option. Not only did it take the district manager five days to contact us, when he did finally call, he only told us that our only option was to call the customer service line noted on the Kay website. He didn't leave his name or any contact information.

Customer service then refused to compensate us for the complete destruction of my family heirloom and only offered to give me a diamond that they felt was of the same or lesser value than they guessed my original diamond would have been. And in my mind, they very much undervalued it. As well, the last thing in the world I want is to have to spend the rest of my life looking at an engagement that reminds me of how some ridiculous company blew up a very important symbol of my marriage AS WELL AS an irreplaceable family heirloom.

Kay might be easy and cheap in the short run, but doing business through them is not worth the chance. I wish I had been to this website earlier, and perhaps I would still have my grandmother's diamond. I strongly encourage you to seek your jewelry services at another store and I’d go so far as to avoid all chain jewelers. It is next to impossible to hold any of them accountable for their mistakes.

Worst Jewelry Store Ever! Should be zero stars!

Just like all the other reviews my experience with Kay Jewelers has been awful! In Aug 2008 my boyfriend and I purchased a engagement ring set for $2,500 not including the tax paid or the additional warrenty we purchased. Not even 60 days later, while I was folding towels, the main diamond fell out. I took the ring back to the closest Kay store and was told I was probably too hard on my ring and caused the prongs to break (I work a Admin job and remove my ring when cleaning, showering and exercising). The store told me it had to be shipped out to the "Home Store" to be fixed because it had the invisable mounting which could not be repaired anywhere locally (I live right outside of Chicago, surrounded by thousands of jewelry repair stores!). I was also told the minimum wait time would be 4-6 weeks. Very unhappy we left the the ring with the store to be shipped out. Two hours later they called me and told me the Manager had inspected the ring and believed it could not be fixed, they requested I come back to the store to pick up a new ring. We were happy and thought the issues would end after that.

May 2009 (a few days ago) while at work, typing... My diamond fell out of my second ring. The store I went to the first time the diamond fell out has now been relocated and I had to drive even further to find another Kay store. Again I was accused of damaging the ring! and being too hard on it. The employee at the store said they called the "Home Store" customer service and that there was nothing they could do but send it to the "Home Store" to be repaired. I told them if the diamond was just going to fall out again (for the third time) that we did not want the ring and wanted to exchange it for a different style that did not have craftman work issues and faulty diamonds. I was told there was nothing they could do but repair it again and this time it will take at least 6-8 weeks or longer.

Even though they could clearly see in the system that the ring had already been replaced once before and now the second ring is falling apart, they did not see anything wrong with that! They also said that the other store had made a note in the system of the damage and a receit for the exchnage but had failed to ship the broken ring to the "Home Store" so they didn't agree that my diamond had fell out the first time... So in order to get a different ring the diamond must fall out again (for the third time) after being repaired by the "Home Shop" before they will even considered exchanging it. What the H-E-L-L? So I have to go through three crapy mounting, three diamonds falling out and three trips to the store 25 miles away before they consider that
a problem. Needless to say I was very upset and let them know it right there in the store. I requested the General/District Managers contact info so I can call them and verfiy that is their store policy (should have just checked this site first and I would have known that). But since I said I was going to contact the Managers the employee then refused to take the ring to be shipped out for repair, she stated that I needed to hold on to it incase I talked them into exchanging it (which I found odd since she told me there was nothing they could do but repair it at least six time). She explained that if it went to the "Home Store" for repair, any exchnages that would have been considered would be denied. She said you can only choose one option or the other... agree to let us repair it again, or take it with you and complain to someone higher up. Needless to say I'm currently the proud owner of a $2,500 ring in a baggie!

No word yet from the GM/DM... Now I have no engagement ring to wear, I'm very aggervated and we are actually looking at trading it it at another store (and probably taking a lose) just to get away from Kay and have a ring that the diamonds will not fall out of.

DO NOT BUY FROM KAY JEWELER, YOU WILL REGRET IT!

If I was able to put 0 stars thats what I would rate it! Worst customer service ever!! SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME & DO NOT GO THERE! My husband took me there just yesterday to pick out whatever jewelry I wanted for Mothers Day, and I looked at some bracelets but didn't really like how they looked once on so I decided to keep looking. The employee who was assisting me went to assist someone else which was okay because I let her know I was going to be looking around. Finally I see a ring I really like so as I look for the previous employee who had already helped me out and I see that she was already assisting someone else so I looked for the next closest employee to assist me and I ask her if she can please show me a ring which was by the way less than a feet away from her and shes replies "has someone already assist you before?" and responded "yes" and she replies "well wait for her to assist you, she will be with you shortly" and im like okay??... Not even a second after an Asian guy (im not trying to offend anyone with this) walks right up and asks for some assistance she gets right up and goes all the way across the jewelry store and immediately helps him out (note he was Asian also) so feeling offended I left. I feel that she was racially prejudice towards me I don't understand why she did that. And when I told my husband what she did which by the way he was not there to witness what had happen due to the fact he went to take our twins to the restroom he got very upset and wanted to talk to the store manager and I felt like it was pointless at the time but now that I look back I realize that it would of been the right thing to do. This all happen at K Jewelers located at Westminster Mall at Westminister, California.

Kay Jewelers suck. About 3 weeks ago I took my ring in for its 6 month inspection. Well the lady said that they diamonds were loose and that it had to be colored. So they sais I could come back and get it in about a week. So I went back in a week to get it and the middle diamond was all cloudy. So they said they didn't know what happened so they said come back in another week, we are going to order you another ring. So we went back after a week and they guy now says it won't be ready for another 2 weeks what the hell is wrong with kay's so i won't have my ring for more than a month I just think it is ridiculous they should knock off a payment or something.

I dropped my Wedding ring off at Kay Jewlers in Corona CA,In the beginning of April to get dipped again because it is white gold. I had a 1 carat in the center two 5/8 bands on the side and diamonds on side of solitare. They UPS the jewerly to a hub to get fixed. Someone at UPS opened the box and stole my ring. I was lied to at first and was told it was shipped, then next day was told they were working on it then got that dreadful phone call that it was stolen. I have tried effortless dealing with this comp. They did not ensure my ring for the proper amount. They only insured it for 5000 dollars. No my diamond was not certified. They said they will cover it for what I bought the ring for in 2004, 4800. The ring now is worth well over 6500 dollars. Let say I had a 1 carat H s1. They are trying to replace it with a horrible stone telling me I only spent 2000 on the diamond when I have the reciepts to prove otherwise. I am having trouble with the manger at the Kay Jewlers at Dos Logos of Corona. My choice I get is 2 diamonds to look at. also the band they tried to show me doesnt even match the diamnds on the center stone band. And dont forget wheres the other band.Diamonds go up in value remeber that.I feel as though im bothering them even though they lost my ring. I asked corporate if I could go somewhere else and was told no I have to deal with the store in Corona. I told them I want my money back or atleast deal with someone else at another location. I was told no I can not. So they would rather go to court then work with me here. I am very distraught over the whole thing. Please do yourself a favor go to robinsbrothers or diamond district. Jareds and helzberg is also owned by the same company. BEWARE

One step up from Target/Sears.

Diamonds are of very low quality. They do not have any Fire, sparkle scintillation under regular lighting.

The staff are somewhat friendly but do not know much about diamonds at all, even though they claim to. Typically, jewelers should know much more then just the infamous "4Cs", but they were not even familiar with what Ideal-scope/Aset-scope images are (images used by labs to detect how well the diamond will perform) nor did they know much about well-proportioned pavilion/crown angles on a diamond. With just a few hours of research anyone would be able to exceed the knowledge of most people working there.

Another vote for I wish I could give zero stars. I also wished I knew of this site before I bought a band there.

Essentially after one awful fitting of a cheap wedding band I was told I had to send out my engagement ring to get the wedding band to fit it (and my finger which it somehow didn't fit the first sizing as well). I was hesitant and made it *very* clear not to do anything to my engagement ring other than rhodium plate it. (The wedding band was just to pass at the wedding until I could go see our family jeweler and get the band I really want out of state).

When I went to pick up my rings the manager at the Kay Store (Duluth,MN) had taken it upon himself to have the jeweler (out of town) grind down my engagement ring band to nearly half the thickness it was and size it up to fit the cheap band. He stated "it wouldn't fit any other way so we did it free of charge."

To give you an idea of the difference in the engagement ring and the wedding band, the engagement ring is insured for 20X the cost of the band and they completely altered the look of my engagement ring without consulting me.

I am very upset and they are "fixing" it but to me it will never be the same. I compare it to a brand new car that has been through an accident.

I was told by a friend to ship it to our normal jeweler and have him verify that the band is replaced with 14K gold like it started as she had heard they would add shanks that were nickel and just re-plate them in the white gold.

I would not recommend this chain store to anyone. Get half the ring from a reputable jeweler instead.

*************************************************** ******

The update is the ring came in today. We refused to accept it until the original jeweler who sold us the ring reviewed it (a friend who works at another jewelry store in the mall).

#1 a prong was broken off that neither the jeweler or the store manager returning the ring noticed... thankfully our jeweler friend did. It was not in this condition when originally sent out but I would have more than likely noticed this evening on my own and assumed it was me.

#2 They tried to tell me my band was 'fixed' when really it was a cheap replication of my original band that was not the proper sizing which again we and our jeweler friend noticed right away. The replacement was also not the same karat weight of gold my original one was.....

#3 The crown for whatever reason was also replaced, with a cheap used crown with uneven prongs... that obviously was also not mine according to our jeweler.

The manager seemed slightly horrified by this as well as the woman at corporate taking care of our case. They have all the original specs on the ring from the jeweler who sold us the ring and will be 100% replacing the setting. It has been guaranteed back in time for our wedding which is much less than a month away. The woman from corporate and the District Manager will be working with the jeweler who "fixed" it to see this is done NOW! Let's see if they pull through!

I wish there was a way that I could give zero stars. This company is terrible. My boyfriend bought me a ring and also purchased the warranty that they had. The warranty stated that every 6 months I had to take the ring back in to have it cleaned and inspected. 6 months later I took the ring in and had it inspected and not even a week later a diamond fell out. Since we had the warranty they would replace the diamond for free. When I dropped it off i was told 3 weeks and it would be done. I called the store 3 weeks later to inquire about my ring and was told to give it another week because sometimes it takes 4 weeks. I waited another week and a half and called again. It still wasn't done and I was told that I needed to stop calling and that they would call me when it was in. I explained that I didn't think a diamond should have been falling out when it was still fairly new and that I was told 3 weeks and it had now been almost 5. I waited 2 more weeks (7 weeks total) and stopped by the store. I was told that they didn't know where my ring was or why it was taking so long to be fixed, but they would call me when it came in. After waiting a total of 4 months to get my ring back the manager (who was probably 17 and dumber than a box of rocks) asked me to inspect it and see if it looked ok. The diamonds were in horrible shape, they were all scratched and didn't even line up the way they were supposed to. The ring part was also really badly scratched. After showing the manager this, she said that since I waited so long to get my ring she would give me the same ring out of the jewelry case. So she put my scratched up, horrible looking ring into the case (to be sold) and gave me the "nicer" ring out of the case. She also told me that since I was so patient she would give me something. I got a $5 Kay Jewelers gift card. I gave her the gift card back and told her that there was nothing at their store that i would ever buy again since i received such horrible service. It was almost insulting for someone to give you a $5 gift card to thank you for being patient. What could i possible get for $5 in their store anyway?

Overall, I would NEVER buy from that store, and they only reason i go back is to get my ring inspected every 6 months.

BUYER BEWARE!!! 300-400% markup. Certified diamonds often sold without or wrong certificates. Trade-ups do NOT include money spent on lifetime warranties. Most repairs, sizings, etc. are sent out of the store...many items are lost, stolen or damaged either before, during or after transit to repair shop. YET they will only ever blame UPS or FEDEX for the screw-up! They rely on suckering you in on their credit plans, so that you will be forced to buy from them. Once you do...look out for the never ending series of phone calls, spam mail and direct mail garbage every month. If you have to return an item beyond 90 days (watches 30 days) or, if you lose a diamond and have missed an inspection by a few days - BE PREPARED FOR A FIGHT! These days the best deals to be had are in the diamond district of a major city or with research on the internet! Lifetime warranties are meaningless - companies like these guys can go out of business in a blink of an eye, just check their stock price. Good Luck - BUT AVOID KAY JEWELERS!

My boyfriend bought me a necklace from Kays for Christmas. Its part of the open heart collection. Its round with the open hearts in the center well its 1/4 carats. The diamonds are what makes the design. Well it is now March and I have had to exchange it twice. The diamonds keep falling out. The girl was an idiot, she was like It is not missing diamonds. My boyfriend told her to go look under the mircoscope then she is like oh! I mean i know that the diamonds are not big but if i can notice them missing while looking in the bathroom mirror, shouldnt a "trained professional" beable to see whats missing.

The 1st one was missing 4 diamonds, the 2nd is missing 2. Wouldnt this make it a design flaw? They want to send it off to the shop to get it fixed, wouldnt they just beable to put the diamonds back in and not fix the prongs which is the problem.

I was looking at an engagement rings there, but i dont think so.

Your cancellation is supposed to be done within 60 minutes of ordering. However there is NO way to do this online......This was also stated to me my your customer representative Kerry Schnee wrote "There is no way of canceling online orders on the website. Unfortunately, we can not cancel or change any orders after an hour also." So you do not offer customers any way to cancel and screw them out of the freight charges for not wanting what is ordered because your company has failed to put on your website a place to cancel. Only mail received from you was no reply and hours to call does not fall on but weekdays. This is an unfair business practice and should be addressed by your company evading the public buyers.

i recently had the misfortune of ordering my (men's) wedding band from kay jewellers. we picked out a white gold band with a double milgrain and brushed pattern. we had visited a number of stores and everywhere said it would take 2-4wks to order giving us just enough time to get it before the ceremony. the woman tried a number of times to sell me the extended warranty and tried to get me to open a credit account so that i would have the opportunity to finance this $300 ring. obviously i denied all of this. i wonder if she gets a commision for either? hmmm, unlikely.

well today i picked up the ring. they asked me if i wanted the warranty which i declined again. the ring was dirty, with some sort of crud in the milgrain. so i asked the woman to clean it, which she did. she then proceeded to ring up the balance, fortunately i was paying attention b/c the total was higher than it should have been. when i asked her about that she that this was the total after you subtract the deposit i left last visit. when i said that it still didnt add up correctly, she said "oh the warranty is on here, i dont know why". after this she handed me the ring without any box or even a bag. after asking for one she put it in a very ugly box with a string hanging out the side.

Now that ive had a chance to look at the ring at home i see that the quality is very poor, with irregularities in the design. as well the brushed and high polish part of the ring have irregular facet-like cuts on part of the ring that disappear as you turn it over. they are obviously not part of the design. the ring also has scratches on the inside which makes me wonder if this was a ring that someone else returned.

The most disappointing thing in this whole fiasco is that now there is not enough time to order a ring from another store and have it in time for the ceremony. i am so thankful that i did not get my fiancee's ring from kay's but instead from a local jeweler where the quality and service was worlds better.

i will never shop at kay's again no matter the price and would never recommend their products to anyone. unless you are looking for a new credit card and a useless warranty, take your business elsewhere

I was so happy when Kay paided me what we paid for a tennis bracelet That a friend brought me for Christmas 6 years ago. The bracelet was was a 5Karet yellow gold. Everytime I wore the bracelet it broke!Or I lost a diamond. The last thing that happend was the clasp broke and I thought I lost it.I found it and brought it back and they told me even with the extened warranty it was expired. When we bought the bracelet and warranty we were told it was a lifetime. Anyway they wanted 40.00 to fix it or$80.00 to get a lifetime garrantie We walked out and went to KAY. They bought the bracelet and we bought a new one for 3000.00. They gave me a thousand and we had to buy one for 2000.00. the one we picked was more. It is beautiful! And sturdy! Good for you!!!!! I worked for them. I went from selling GIA certified diamonds to selling CRAPPY diamonds at there stores. It is incredible, yet sad on how the employees are trained to tell you what you want to hear. It is very hard for me to lie, so I would TRULY send them to the nicest pieces (if any) that the store had. I wouldn't care if it were MUCH less than what they planned on spending. Commission was not my goal, selling them the best the store had to offer.

Thank the Lord I was denied credit from this place. Just on the basis of them not being able to verify my telephone number. HAHA. But phew, should have read epinions first.

I have spent time researching diamond rings and I couldn't believe the low quality and HIGH prices I saw. These people are truly pathetic. They make it sound like you are buying a premium diamond for mild cost. That B-S. I have seen better diamonds at walmart and sears, cheaper too.

I am now planning on visiting a sort of local jewelry store that is well known for delivering quality. Again, thanks kays, NOT HAHA

The Lifetime Watch Battery Replacement Program is a scam. Needed a new battery about a year later, took it to a Kay Jewelers and was told they didn't have the tools to change the battery. Guess they got rid of their watch tools in the past year! The sales associate then proceeded to tell me I had to go out to one of the carts in the mall because they replaced all watch batteries for them. After showing my paperwork from the battery replacement program, I was told that no one ever offers a lifetime battery warranty and that the sales associate must have been mistaken when she gave this to me.
The funny thing is....right on the front of the brochure is "Lifetime Watch Battery Replacement" in all caps!
Seems like Kay Jewelers doesn't want to be bothered by watch batteries, so next time I'm looking for a new watch or any other piece of jewelry, I won't bother with Kay Jewelers!
Keep up the good work Kay Jewelers, because with complaints like these, it's only a matter of time before your customer service catches up with you!

My husband and I bought a diamond jacket for my existing engagement ring (not purchased from Kay). It sat in a safe from April 2006 until September 2006 when we got married (labor day weekend). The end of September a stone had fallen out. I returned and they replaced the jacket immediately. A few months went buy and the same thing happened again. They told me that I must be hard on my rings! I do office work for a living and regular work at home. For gardening and things like that the ring always comes off! But they replaced again. Another few months goes by and you got it...another diamond missing! This time they said it was because my diamond engagement ring must be bumping the prongs of the other diamonds and making them come loose. They talked me into soddering the two rings together. Well guess what last November (2007) another stone goes missing! This time I'm beyond angry because they still say it's me.....I have had many rings from other jewelers and also one other ring from Kay that I have NEVER had any problems with! So then November 2008 rolls around and another stone is gone! I go back yet again and they fix it for free because "I've had so much trouble with the ring". Well I dropped it off November 11 it was just ready for pick up yesterday on December 2....There is a major black mark on the diamond (it looks like a burn mark)! They tell me that it's "not an inclusion in the diamond" so I'm fine!!!! Well, NO I"M NOT FINE!! The ring looks horrible! A ring that I planned on wearing every day for the rest of my life has become a nightmare! Although I left with the ring I am planning on legal action against the store because enough is just enough!!!! It's not me! It's the ring!!! Remember this is the third new setting of the same ring they have given me!!! I warn anyone that considering purchasing a ring from this chain to be VERY cautious!!!!

My boyfriend and I went into a Kay jewlers to look at engagement rings. We thought about buying from them until we spoke with a salseperson. It was awful! He talked non-stop about things that made no sense and never answered any questions. It was like he was reading from a script! He never let us look at the rings that were within our budget and only showed us rings that were way too expensive for what they were. Then he told us stories about how he had to take this class for jewlery that he didn't even want to take. Needless to say, we left more confused and stressed than excited to get engaged.

I bought the Blue Topaz ring for my girlfriend july of 08, and within four months, the stone chipped. I had bought the extra warranty (after being told that it covered the entire ring) and when I went to have the stone replaced they said it wasnt covered. I called customer service after seeing online that there was a lifetime diamond and colored gemstones warranty, and i was told it wasnt covered because its a "Precious Stone". I dont think that they are doing their part to do anything about the ring at all and they are using technicalities to get out of replacing their products. I dont recommend going there for anything because they dont seem too worried about keeping a customer happy. Unfortunately i bought a matching necklace a couple months ago and now its only a matter of time before it breaks or chips I'm sure.

My fiance and I picked out my engagement ring from Kay. I absolutely LOVE this ring and think it's gorgeous. I had to have it sized. It was promised in 5 business days, but they called to say it would not be ready because resizing it so small caused some problems. OK fine, my mother agreed that sizing to a 5 could be difficult. We got the ring, looked beautiful. Well, this month, 5 months later, we go to pick out wedding rings. I want to get the 6 month inspection on my engagement ring while I am there (even tho a month early). The sales associate tells me that my stone is loose. I've only had the ring for 5 months! Why is the stone loose? Was it not done correctly the first time? My mom has had rings for YEARS with no inspections and no stones have fallen out. I guess Kay requires inspections because they know it will happen and hope you will forget. That's ok, at least I don't have to pay for it. I'll be sure to get proof of my inspection though and I think I will take it to another jeweler after to get an opinion about whether the setting is right. Hoping it was a one time mistake and that everything is ok after this. And hopefully the wedding band comes back from sizing ok.

My husband purchased my ring on 12/10/07. The ring sat in its box for over a month. When I finally was proposed to I thought that it was the prettiest ring I had ever seen! In May 2008 one of the diamonds fell out of the setting. This ring was replaced with an exact new ring. On July 23, 2008 a diamond fell out of the setting of this new ring. That diamond was replaced. On today November 13, 2008 - another diamond fell out of my ring. yet AGAIN! This is ridiculous! I dont even wear my ring when Im home because of fear that a diamond will fall out! I dont work so most of the time Im home and my ring is on a ring holder! Its not like Im banging it up against things because I rarely wear it! At this point I dont know what to do because my husband did not pay $4000 for my wedding ring, which is SUPPOSED to be worn everyday, for this to continue to happen! I have not even had it for a year. I am extremely unhappy with this product and at a loss of words to describe my disappointment!

I recommend that you NEVER step foot in Kay Jewelers at Eastview Mall...I was encouraged by a sales associate to send my wedding and engagement ring to have them re-plated under my warranty plan.  I said okay and wouldn't you know two weeks later my rings are GONE FOREVER!! Their Carrier whom the store manager insists they don't insure packages they send lost them.  The store manager assured me that they receive no compensation for the lost package and are eating the cost of replacing all the jewelry highly doubtful....What business would do this....and why wouldn't the carrier just take all the packages shipped if they weren't held financially responsible. I was never explained this supposed "legal contract" (according again to the genius manager there) and he couldn't even explain to me how they determine value of the rings sent and value of replacement jewelry. According to him the meaning of or is an if and then clause which is news to me. They don't want to do anything to make up for the fact that these pieces of jewelry are SENTIMAL and can NEVER be replaced.  How do you put a value on that???? UNACCEPTABLE ....if you shop there I wouldn't even bother buying the warranty just take it to a local repair shop and pay for any repairs. Trust me the cost will be worth more than losing something irreplacable. and they will do nothing to help make it better they will do in the store managers words: "I'm trying to tell you nicely what you want isn't going to happen. We will do the right thing which is to replace the merchandise with store credit of the value written on the receipt and if it makes you feel better you can call customer relations".

AVOID KAY JEWELERS - totally dishonest. My daughter received an engagement ring from her boyfriend that was purchased there - $3,000. She took it to be cleaned and a bracket tightened. THEY LOST(?) the ring - said the carrier lost it AND said they're not responsible. They said my daughter signed a release when she left it there saying they're not responsible!! We're just starting to file a police report, sue in court, etc. - not to mention the anguish of the ring being gone. Very Poor business. AVOID.

Bought a 1 KT diamond from Kays (Hanover, Ma). Had It mounted in a nice diamond studded platnium setting I already owned. Paid good money for the stone, but the quality was suspect (big ugly inclusion near the surface).
Returned the stone and they hacked the setting to get the diamond out. Kays wanted me to return it to the same #*%#$ who messed it up. I paid $$$ to get it fixed at a real shop. ....... DO NOT BUY OR BRING FINE JEWELERY INTO KAYS

I have had great experiences with Kay's. I took my engagement ring in to be resized (its under their warranty), I dropped it off on Monday and picked it up on Wednesday. They only took 2 days! And to think I was considering having it done at another jewelry store for $45 in the same amount of time. I highly recommend the Kay Jewelers in the Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, VA, and especially the customer service of Annie and Amber.

Kay Jeweler is a place to go to take out a loan at a high interest rate, that you can't afford, and you just happen to get a bad piece of jewelry as a gift.

Do your homework on this company before you purcahse from Kay Jewelers. My husband decided to upgrade my wedding ring for our 9th anniversary, within six months a emerald fell out of the setting. When I went to have it repaired the sales rep. said to me "thats what happens when you buy man-made jewelry" as if that was not disrespectful enough the store manager was trying to refuss my request to have to ring repaired at no cost because I my inspection on the ring was two days late. For a company that values its customers and strive to provide customers with an experience that make you feel confident in your purchase, maybe the GM should pay more attention to the representation being displayed by the employee. In nine years I had no problems with my original Wedding ring which came from a competitor, upgraded so I thought with Kay Jeweler and the ring started falling apart within six months. My husband and I not only closed both accounts with Kay's, but also plan to return to the Jeweler where the original ring was purchased and exchange the ring and the customer service. My massage is this if your going to spend your hard earned money on something nice for your Wife, stay away from Kay Jewlers because they do not stand behind their Jewelry. Your treated like a king when they see your wallet, but that all changes when you return with the faulty product.

Please people do not buy from this company. I bought my wife a diamond from Kays and a few months later they told us that there was a crack in it. They sent it off without letting us see it and sent back a lower quality, yellow diamond. We wouldn't accept it. They sent the yellow diamond back and the next diamond was 1/4 smaller. This leads me to believe that this company is nothing but a bunch of crooks. The stores are always empty (surprise, surprise) and we have heard similar stories from other people. Do not purchase from Kay Jewelers. They care more about quantity then quality, this is a FACT!!

Bad prices and pushy salesmen. I purchased a ring from them and later realized that it was basically a ripoff deal so I returned it. After a week and a half I had received no refund on my card. It turned out after emailing them, they directed me to call them where I waited on hold for an hour, and then finally someone helped me with the refund. I would personally not go back to any jewelry store. I got a far nicer ring at bluenile.com for only a little bit more than I paid at Kay. Not to mention, the selection online is so much more vast than at a jewelry store. PLUS Kay only has like 15 diamonds there that actually have certificates, whereas most diamonds have certs when you shop online. Enough said, Kay sucks.
