What a great remembrance of a wonderful season especially since the team was not expected to go as far as it did! This keepsake has all the wonderful stories as the season unfolds written by the Pittsburgh writers, and the Steelers are the team the people of Pittsburgh have come to know, respect and love.

I am originally from Altoona, PA, so the Steelers are pretty much in my blood (isn't it funny that nobody in Altoona likes the Eagles or Phillies?). I have kept up-to-date on the Steelers this year via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette website, and I figured I'd contribute what I likely would've spent on their newspapers over the course of the season by buying this book. Ed Bouchette is one of the best beat writers out there, so it was nice to have his season's work collected. Unfortunately, and as is the case with most quick cash-in items, there are problems. First of all, I realize that 90% the pictures are from the Post-Gazette photography staff (most of them are great), so they might not have the access to the iconic shots of each game that the AP gets, but someone did a real hack job of matching the "front-page" picture to the story. For instance, Santonio's game-winner against the Ravens is relegated to the body of the story, and not as the lead picture. That was the big play of the game, right? Instead, we get a picture of Willie "2-To-3-Yard-Loss" Parker failing to run up the middle (as usual) as the lead. Pretty ridiculous. In fact, throughout the book, the lead picture carries a caption like (all paraphrased), "He didn't make this catch, but he made others" or "Ben takes a sack right before his game winning touchdown to Hines Ward" or "This pass fell incomplete, but two other times it didn't" (they show Tyrone Carter about to drop a sure interception as the lead picture in the NE victory?). Why not show someone actually contributing to the win, instead of all of these pictures of the proverbial "goats" of the game? And while I'm on the topic of the captions, who wrote the captions? Because they sure don't know who's who on the team. One picture that is CLEARLY Nate Washington carries the caption (again, paraphrasing), "Hines Ward can't put both of his hands on the ball and make a football catch!" I mean, Hines Ward is pretty recognizable. Even my wife, who doesn't really like football, could tell you in a lineup who Hines Ward was. If that were the only time, it wouldn't be that much of a big deal, but it happens TWO other times later in the book! Two pictures that are clearly Santonio Holmes are mislabeled as being Willie Parker. Seriously. These are relatively minor complaints, but it really makes the Post-Gazette look like Amateur Hour when they can't even identify the correct Steelers players in a book ABOUT THE STEELERS! And as the other guy wrote, my book was bent and even slightly ripped on the spine. That kind of stuff happens, but it's what's inside that should've been fixed before its admittedly swift distribution.

Although I now live in California, I grew up in Pittsburgh and will always bleed black and gold. So, it goes without saying that I've been ordering everything about the Steelers' sixth Super Bowl victory. This book has some wonderful articles, ut nothing to blow your socks off. (This may well be due to the fact that nothing could possibly catch the exhilaration of the Steelers victory.) Also, the book arrived with a slight bend in the lower right corner. Although it is nothing substantial, it is a bit of a distraction.
