No rules for me. Two of my friends recently turned 12, and I'd have more than a couple of friends older than me except for the fact that very few friends older than me are still alive.

While it is nice to have a few friends who are somewhat close to your age, there's nothing that says you can't have friends who are significantly older or younger than you are.

Not important to me. One of my best friends is fourteen years older than me and it's not something I even think about. But this goes back to common interest, we are both boxing fans.

most people i know are fairly close to my age, but one of my favorite people is young enough to be my daughter and i would be devastated if she wasn't a part of my life. she is sweet and funny and goofy and i love that her whole life is in front of her and i can help her and give her advice. she is going to be a truly amazing woman.

People of all ages, can become close friends. There is lots one can learn from all ages; whether it’s something that will come up as we age, or a gentle reminder of how we should look at things as though seeing them for the first time. I have friends of all ages and learn a lot from every age bracket.

Age is not important. The friendship bond should surpass age differences. Age is just a number. Maturity is a factor as well.

It's certainly easier to relate to someone who is around your age level, typically, but you can learn a lot from both older and younger people. You can learn from the experiences of older friends, while learn from the innocence of children.

I agree with DickDirk. I have a lot of friends at the nursing homes where I work, but a few have them have died in the only few months I have been working there. Its pretty creepy that there alive and well one day and dead the next. Otherwise, age is not important.

I have no problem with having friends that are either a lot younger than me, or who are a lot older than me, as long as we have things to talk about. I've said this in other comments, but as long as you can carry on an intelligent conversation, you have a sense of humor, you are honest and trustworthy, and you do not take advantage of me or my other friends, then I would be friends with you, even if you were 5 years older or younger than me.

Some of my friends are the same age as me, others are a lot older. As long as we enjoy spending time together, why should age matter?

This doesn't matter. This isn't like the boyfriend/girlfriend spectacle, where you usually (especially when in your teens) don't want to be more than a couple years older/younger than the other person involved. As Snoopy has stated, I have friends from a wide range of age groups. And don't even try to tell me that it isn't healthy...it is. Age doesn't prevent people from understanding each other, especially if you are similar in some way. By God, it's mostly slightly older people that share my musical taste! Take care, everyone!

This is pretty important to me. If you are friends with someone a lot older/younger than you it could present some difficulty. If they're younger they might not understand the complex thing about being your age and if they're older they might've forgotten how they felt when they were your age. Plus if you're friends with someone older you might not understand everything that they talk about 'cause you haven't experienced it yet. Close in age is pretty important but it could be fun to befriend people of different ages.
