"[Daybreak is] a useful guide to restore the balance of powers and reclaim our constitutional system ...

Being an Iraq War Veteran, and author myself, I was wary when I picked up this book--as I am picking up any political book. When finished reading Swanson's book, I remembered a fleeting line from JFK's speech for his party's nomination: "We must prove all over again whether this nation--or any nation so conceived--can long endure." I think too often, politics and politicians only have four year or eight year vision. One thing we all need to be aware of is that simple decisions now, are going to affect the history of our nation. We need to ask ourselves, a hundred years from now, are we going to be proud of what we've become and our decisions. Are we going to say, we abolished hunger, disease, we spread freedom, or are we going to say.... Maybe I'm on a JFK fix, but Swanson also rings true to the idea of a "New Frontier" what we need to do, to make this the nation we know we can have, and we deserve. There's a lot in-between, but it's truly is a hard book to put a finger on. But I like it, and I recommend it. Mass Casualties: A Young Medic's True Story of Death, Deception, and Dishonor in Iraq

I find this book most informative. It re-inforces what I thought happened during the Bush administration, puts everything in place for me. Convinces me that we must work to take back our government.

David Swanson's DAYBREAK is a very important book. David has thoughtfully put together and clearly laid out the deep problems in our government. He explores the current imbalances of power in the three branches of government, with emphasis on the overreaches of the Executive branch, and how these came about. DAYBREAK provides the reader with a cohesive understanding of the depth of the problem, from the overall lack of respect for the Constitution to the abdication of responsibility by the majority of those in the Congress. And he offers suggestions for fixing the problems and creating the more perfect union our forefathers hoped we would create. The book is highly readable and, for me, at once fascinating, enraging, terrifying, and motivating. Having read DAYBREAK, I am motivated to help mend our broken system of government and help restore democracy in our country.

David Swanson does a remarkable job is giving us chapter and verse on how our democracy has been distorted by the imperial presidency. It's impossible to read it without getting angry. It reminds you all over again of how Bush, Cheney and their underlings shredded the Constitution. But it also shows us how Congress and the media have contributed as well. But Swanson doesn't just gripe. He gives us detailed proposals on how to bring democracy back to our country. Even more remarkably, he believes that we can do it. He has faith in the American public's basic and deep progressive instincts. But this book is not a diatribe. It's carefully researched and thoughtfully put together. He's a smart dude and we all can learn something from him. We're fortunate to have this book. If enough people read it, we might even be able to build the movement that is needed to get our country back

I suggest everyone in the US read this book and then they will see how our last Government changed all the laws in the book and even though they are no longer in power should be prosecuted for the way they have changed the laws. I was not born in this country but took American History at the local college and learned about the checks and balances that we are suppose to have in the USA but that was changed by the government of George W. Bush, he used the signing statements in ways no other President used them that is what Davis Swanson pointed out in his book. This nation from my understanding is run by the people for the people but that is no longer true and we the people need to get active and take our country back. This book should be a required reading in all colleges of this nation. David Swanson you did a wonderful job keep up the good work.
