I love books, I love to stay at the sofa with a coffee and a good book. The best gift that someone made me was two books, a Pushkin's poems book in the spanish and russian versions. A book can show a lot about the person who make the gift, and about the person who will read it. One of the bests gifts to do.

Books, that is, worthwhile books, are a great gift for anyone, even if they're ignorant and culturally backward like most people are, because, after all, even the most clueless rube is redeemable if he/she tries and has the resources to avail themself. The sad thing is that most people are really stupid, too, which is a permanent malady. All the books in the world can't do anything to improve people like that. A good many of the cretins on this website are proof positive of this.

Most women I've been inclined to give gifts to would appreciate a book as a gift, but I tend to date smart women.

I love to read so a book is something i usually love getting. I especially love to get a gift certificate to a bookstore.books are something that lasts. I enjoy buying books for people who request them too. or getting them a gift card to a bookstore.

Yes! As long as I get to choose it.

Books are nice gifts for women or men, provided they like reading and you have a good idea how their literary taste runs.

I love books but I wouldn't want to get a book that I won't enjoy.

YES!- Nothing better than a new book as a gift- as long as it relfects an interest of the receiver! And there is definately no middle ground here- either someone is a book person, or they aren't.

I love receiving books as presents because I love to read.

I love receiving books as a gift, especially when the giver has taken the time to pick out a book he/she knows I'd like. It's even kind of fun to receive a book I'd normally never select because it exposes you to something new. Growing up, I had an aunt and uncle who sent me a Christmas check to be spent on books every year. I looked forward to that present and would spend a lot of time thinking about which titles to buy. In my opinion, there's nothing better than shopping for books. I guess I'd rank a gift certificate to a bookstore at the top of my gift list.

One of the best gifts by far! I love books – all kinds and on nearly any subject. I could spend hours in the big chain stores like Barnes and Noble or Borders (hey, they have food, beverages, bathrooms and comfy chairs - you could actually plan a vacation there). Before purchasing though the person giving the gift would really need to get some information on the interests and favorite authors of the reader which, in most cases, wouldn’t be too difficult. Otherwise, I think bookstore gift certificates are a good idea as well.

I really love to get books as a gift, especially when they are well thought out and fit my personality. A unique decorating book is great for anyone who has purchased a house or moved into a new apartment..coffee table books with the woman's favorite artist in mind are thoughtful and always appreciated. I also love receiving a hard cover of a favorite classic. As long as you choose books that fit the person..they are a perfect gift. Cookbooks are also great gifts.
