Well, the cleaning lady needs equipment to use when she comes over, so, this is not an bad option, although it is a gift that a woman won't actually use herself. Unless, of course, a vibrator is considered a home appliance. Batteries not included.

Yes, please. I'll take a freezer and an electric knife. Now lay down on the butcher's block you got my last year.

Truly awful idea. Unless you want to be seperated from your loved one over the holidays dont buy her ANYTHING for the household, shell only hit you with it, and she would be right!

Buy your wife or girlfriend a vacuum and you might as well join a monastery for the next six months.

I believe that unless a woman specifically asks for a home appliance for Christmas or any other time, it is a bad idea to buy it as a present. For example kitchen appliances are used by the whole house hold. so it is kind of shabby when "mom" has to have this as a Christmas present. Every once in a while I actually do want a household appliance for Christmas or birthday and I request it. As an example I wanted a George Forman Grill for Christmas. So I was happy to get it. BUT! in other time I would not be too pleased if I got an unrequested household appliance as a present.

What a thoughtless gift! A home appliance is about the worst thing you could give a woman for the holidays. As Molfan and CastleBee pointed out, it's crummy to give a gift that benefits the entire household. Plus, home appliances are usually related to cleaning or home maintenance, and giving one as a gift to a woman reinforces old-fashioned stereotypes that most woman loathe. If you want to make a woman really mad during the holidays, give her an unwanted home appliance!

Like kitchen equipment, I feel that this is more appropriate for a wedding shower, not a Christmas gift.

If you’re talking about cleaning appliances I say no WAY (unless of course this woman has a cleaning compulsion). To buy something for someone that benefits the entire household in the long run is really just kind of rude. In other words, since the entire family should have some part in the upkeep and maintenance of the household (it’s 2001 and June Clever does not live here) then why use the purchase of household appliances as an excuse of a gift for mom?
