Depends on who you buy for and where they live. To Lance's point, I was a member of a gym in AZ, and became a member of a gym when I moved to MN, but this proved to be an unwise investment, as now a trip to the gym is almost a 60 mile round trip through unpaved icy roads, so I am happy about my home gym equipment and my gym membership has become an expensive luxury which I rarely use. In fact, I get double the value from my home gym - it serves as exercise equipment and as an additional clothesline. My shirts gently flap against my face as I do abdominal crunches, plus I get to make those gratifying simian noises that you might not want to make when at a gym.

Yeah like the Gazelle or the Bowflex which easily convert into coathangers. If men are truly into working out get them a gym membership- or as my fiancee was kind enough to do by them a package of personal training sessions with their own trainer. Home gym equipment- at least for me- and I'd say for most men- would be a waste of time and money.

It's only good if you're an enthusiast for that particualr sport. I'm sure an avid golfer wouldn't mind seeing a putting wedge under the tree on Christmas morning.
