I like getting a good bottle as a gift.  If I like it, I will drink it.  If I don't, I'll set it aside so that I have something nice to give friends when they visit me.  I especially like getting a something unavailable in my area.  A friend went to sweden and got me a bottle of aquavit.  Another friend got me a bottle of Cuban rum.  Both were appreciated and enjoyed.

Sounds interesting but the problem with alcohol is that most of the drinkers, not always heavy ones reach a drug addiction treatment center.

I'll always be happy to get a nice big bottle of Bourbon or a case of good beer.Even if someone gives me something I don't drink,(like-Chardonnay),I can always save it for company.

Some people don't drink (myself included); it's probably better not to risk it and just give a gift that is less controversial.

How old are you people? Mature adults often give a bottle of wine, scotch, or other nice liquor as Christmas and host gifts. Only people that don't know how to drink responsibly, have an alcohol addiction themselves, or have some religious reasons are opposed to the gift of a nice bottle of wine. We're not talking about a 40 of Colt 45 or a bottle of Mad Dog here. Grow up.

Gifts like this are nice when you're going to be sharing it with him during a special moment. But otherwise I do not recommend promoting addictions as a gift that is supossed to demonstrate that you care about them.

There's nothing like spreading the joy of giving like spreading substance abuse.

If it was quality booze, and the man is a drinker, then why would he not appreciate it. Just make sure you arent interfering with 12 steps or anything.
